CHAPTER THREE
We didn't see Anne and Woody for over a week after that, because Willa kept making excuses. When we did see them again, it was for a double-date sort of evening at a drive-in movie. Coming back to the car from the refreshment shack during intermission, Woody suggested laughingly that Anne sit up front with me, and Willa in the backseat with him during the second film. Willa nixed that idea so fast I began to wonder if she'd learned about Anne and I in the kitchen.
