"Your highness, where are we going?" Kai asked from the drivers seat as he sped down the roads towards the nearest boarder of the pack. The sooner we got off of Alpha Neo's lands, the safer my mate and her mother would be.
Lenora and her mother were in the far back of the SUV huddled together and holding each other. While her mother looked as if she were going to faint, Lenora was calm, watching the rest of us with a mixture of trust and nervousness. It was as if she were at odds with her own mind and heart. I felt a twinge of hurt in my chest at the thought my own mate not trusting me, not trusting the mate bound I knew we shared. But I pushed it down, she'd just gone through a lot, and given who her last mate was, she had a reason to be apprehensive of the bound.
"Where should we go Lenora?" I asked softly, drawing her eyes to my own. "It is your call, we will go where ever you want."
"Silent Silver Pack." Her mother whispered from against her daughters shoulder. I met Lenora's eyes over her mothers head and she just nodded, agreeing with her mothers destination.
"Okay, Silent Silver Pack." I told Kai, he met my eyes in the review mirror with his own wide gaze, as if to ask if I were sure. Narrowing my gaze I dared him to question be again, but he simply lowered his own and continued driving much higher then the posted speed limits.
"Are you sure Silent Silver is the best place to go Gideon?" Jaxon's voice entered my mind and I could feel his reservations on going to one of the most infamous packs in the world.
No one messed with Silent Silver and thankfully the Royal family never had a need to intervene with them, they ran a smooth pack, regardless of it's size rivaling our own, and had been loyal to the Royal family always. What they were known for was their bite. Centuries ago they'd been found by humans and tortured with liquid silver injections, even after they managed to escape the silver ran through their systems, never able to completely be rid of it. The pups that were born were brought into this world with silver in their blood, but the reason other packs were frightened of them was the Alpha line had silver in their fangs. One bite was enough to kill their enemy in minutes.
"It is where she wants to go. I need her to trust me Jaxon." I answered him, refusing to take my eyes off of my mate.
"Can you at least ask? Make sure they understand where they are wanting us to take them? You are my Prince and my Alpha, so your word is my law, but I am also supposed to protect you Gideon." Jaxon paused, looking back at me with anxious eyes before continuing. "I can't save you from their venom, no one and nothing can. Not to mention you are asking me to take my mate in there Gideon." His eyes flickered to Catherine who was texting on her phone, no doubt telling father everything that happened.
I understand his fears, I had the same with my own mate going with in their boarders.
"Lenora, Mrs. Hall, do you know what Silent Silver Pack is known for?" I kept my voice low, not wanting to frightening my mates mother anymore then she already was.
"Of course." My mate snorted, rolling her eyes at my question as if it were ridiculous I had even asked. My brows rose on their own accord as I watched her with an air of arrogant authority. She was not what I was expecting in a mate at all.
"Maybe not, but I love it." Loki chuckled, he was already all googly eyed for this Omega who was anything but submissive and quite.
"Care to explain please? You are asking us all to risk our lives to go there, I want to make sure you understand the danger." I may sound dramatic, but while Silent Silver was loyal to the throne, they did not take kindly to unannounced visitors.
"Alpha Leonard is my uncle, my father was his brother." She stated, drawing the eyes of each of the other people in the car, including Kai, who's eyes should be on the damned road. Looking around at the others surprised expressions she frowned and looked back at me. "What? Why is everyone looking at me?"
"Just surprised is all, Silent Silver isn't exactly known for pack members leaving the fold. They prefer to keep their family members close. Not to mention it's kind of curious why your father would leave a pack as large and prosperous as Silent Silver for a pack as small as Pale Moon? Why not take his mate with him, out of that awful place, instead of joining her?" Lenora just looked away, most likely unable to answer my questions, all of these decisions having been made before she was born.
"It was because of my sister." Her mother said, pulling back from Lenore, her hands going to wiped the tears off of her face as she turned to face me. "My sister was younger then me, and so, so beautiful. But she was more then that. She had this kind and gentle spirit that made you want to care for her, protect her, that made you love her." Mrs. Hall was looking at me with memories shinning in her eyes, happy ones that were tinged with the sadness yet to come in her story. Lenora was watching at her mom as engrossed in her explanation as I was, clearly never having hear this story before.
"Starla was wolf-less, and there for on her 18th birthday was allowed to choose any mate she wanted, but none had ever caught her eye, though many males were willing to give up a fated mate they had yet to meet in order to be her chosen mate." Mrs. Hall paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. "I met my husband, Lenora's father, shortly after my 20th birthday. An Alpha meeting was held on our territory and he came with his brother, Alpha Leonard. It was all I had heard it was destined to be, finding your true mate." My mates blue eyes flickered to mine and her cheeks blushed a pretty pink, the action making me smile at her, she was so incredible, and she was mine.
"He told me that we were going to move back to Silent Silver together, when I expressed my fears for my sister, he immediately offered to have her go with us and asked for a conference with Alpha Neo to discuss Starla moving with us. But Alpha Neo only told him he would consider it, if Starla really wanted to go in a weeks time, he'd allowed her to leave the pack. We should have known he'd never let her go, he'd been obsessed with her since we were children." Mrs. Hall took a tissue from her daughter, smiling a thank you at her as she wiped at the tears still leaking from her swollen eyes.
"At the end of that week he had Starla convinced she was his mate, that she simply couldn't feel it because she was wolf-less. But I knew the truth, I knew she wasn't his mate. She fancied her self in love though, and refused to go with me and my mate to Silent Silver, so I convinced him to stay with me in Pale Moon, for my sisters safety. Two months later he found his mate, his fated mate, but he kept Starla, locked away in the pack house. My mate promised to help me get her out, but it was proving impossible to get out and alert his brother to the need for his help, phone lines were forbidden in the pack and we didn't have cell phones like we do now. A year later there was a breech at the boarder, we lost ten guards that night, including my love. I was pregnant with Lenora, or I would have chosen to follow him to the next world."
While Mrs. Hall blew her nose before continuing me and Jaxon shared a concerned glance. We were in agreement, it sounded as if Alpha Neo had planned the 'breech' if there had been one at all, just to get rid of a competitor for his position. As a Silent Silver Alpha family member, Mrs. Hall's mate would have not only been born with the venomous bite, but also the power that comes with having Alpha blood in your veins, if he'd challenged Alpha Neo, and won, he'd have all legal rights to take over Pale Moon.
"I wanted to go to Silent Silver and have my baby with my mates family, but Alpha Neo refused to let me go, instead threatening to kill Starla if I attempted to flee. When Lenora was born I only got to see my sister once and she wasn't my happy Starla anymore. He'd taken everything from her, she was a shell of the woman she'd been blooming into when she'd went to live in the pack house with him. Two months later I got a call that she'd died, some sickness they'd said, but I knew what it was, she'd killed her self to end her suffering." New tears were falling down her cheeks, Lenora handing her mother another tissue even as she rubbed her back to offer what little comfort she could for something that had happened so long ago.
"Why didn't you take Lenora and run once your sister was gone?" Catherine asked softly from her seat in front of us, she was turned around so she could listen to the story as well, her own eyes sparkling with unshed tears. Alpha Neo was more of a problem then I realized, but I found a semblance of satisfaction in the knowledge that I would get to end his life, as soon as my mate and her mother were safe.
"Because he threatened to kill Lenora if I did." Red hot anger raced through my veins as the words left her mouth, Loki was roaring for us to turn around and kill the monster who'd threatened the infant life of our mate. "I thought of calling, once we got cell phones and tablets, when Lenora was much older, but I knew they listened in. If I managed to call and get help to come, we'd have both been dead by time they got to the boarders. Not to mention Alpha Leonard is very by the book, he'd have never started a war without first discussing it with the royal family. All of those things would have taken time, time we would not have if Alpha Neo got word I was attempting to leave."
"But what I don't understand is why all of this? Why not simply let Starla go when he got his fated mate? And why his obsession with Lenora?" Jaxon interjected from his seat right in front of Lenora and her mom, Catherine nodded her head, agreeing with the questions. Even I had to admit I was wondering the same.
"He refused to let Starla go because she was ' his' as he put it, I think he viewed her as a trophy. Everyone wanted her, but he got her, he wasn't going to let that go. And as far as Lenora goes, I think he planned on forcibly mating her to his son Knox." Mrs. Hall's hand moved over and patted her daughters which was resting in her lap, taking a shaking breath. "That was before Knox declared you as his fated mate at the beginning of the school year. All of Alpha Neo's careful planning was coming to a head, but I couldn't let it come to completion. That family had killed my sister and I believe my mate as well, I refused to let him take my daughter. So I was ready to run, even if they hunted us to the ends of the earth."
"Plan?" Catherine asked.
"To bring the Silent Silver's Silver Kiss of Death, into his own blood line." Well s**t, that was a well laid plan, and one of the top reasons the Silent Silver pack kept their blood line within their boarders.
With the Silver Kiss of Death in Alpha Neo's possession, no pack in North America would be safe.
