Chapter 11

1227 Words
Elisa’s POV I went back to Vivian’s hostel later in the afternoon. I needed to return her dress before she started wondering where I kept it. My head still felt heavy from everything that happened. When I reached her block, music was playing from inside. It sounded loud and cheerful. I didn’t expect that. I walked in and saw people gathered in the small room. Girls and guys, mixed together. They were laughing, singing, and dancing around the bed area. Vivian stood in the middle with a plastic cup in her hand. Her cheeks were a little flushed.bShe looked happy. “Oh my God, Elisa!” she called when she saw me. She ran and hugged me. Her cup spilled a little on the floor. I forced a small smile. I didn’t want her to feel bad. “I came to return your dress that I borrowed.” I said. One of the girls, short hair and very bright lipstick, pointed at me. “Come and join us,” she said. “We’re celebrating Tammy’s birthday.” A guy lifted his cup toward me. “Yeah, join. No sad face here.” I shook my head gently. “I’m not really in the mood,” I said. I hoped they would understand. Vivian pouted a little. But she didn’t push. She knew I was tired. I slipped behind the curtain where her wardrobe was. I needed to change back into my own clothes. I didn’t want to stay long. As I pulled off the dress, the music lowered suddenly. Someone must have switched the track. Then I heard voices talking clearly from outside. “You people have seen the news, right?” a girl said. Her voice was filled with gossip excitement. “What news?” another asked. “That our hockey coach is planning to leave this work.” There was a loud reaction. Someone gasped. Someone laughed like it was unbelievable. I wanted to either confront them or ask questions. “Leave?” a guy asked. “For what reason?” “He was caught with a girl yesterday,” the first girl said. “They said he was seen at night. Alone. With a student.” I froze with the dress halfway off me. My chest stopped moving for a moment. They kept talking. “No, wait. Are you serious? That one?” “Are you sure it’s him?” “He was the only one everybody believed was holy.” “Ah, life is shocking.” My fingers trembled. I slowly continued changing. My breath became uneven. Vivian’s voice joined them. “I heard about it too. People are dragging it in the campus forum. I just don’t know if the news is true.” “True or not,” the girl with the bright lipstick said, “the whole campus is talking. Everybody is even asking who the girl is.” The room exploded in noise. “Who do you think she is?” “Maybe someone from Year One.” “Or one of the quiet ones. Those are the most dangerous.” Someone laughed loudly. Laughter that sounded sharp and careless. I felt my stomach twist. My throat felt tight. I reached for my bag and pulled out my phone. My hand was shaking a little. I opened the campus forum app. The first thing I saw was a trending post. Big letters. Thousands of comments. So many reactions. “My God…” I whispered. I clicked it. People were arguing. Some said the story was true. Some said it was a lie. But almost every comment was asking the same thing. Who is the girl? Some said it must be someone from the hockey Department. Some said Basketball. Some said “The girl must be shameless.” My chest felt tight again. My vision blurred a little. If anyone figured it out… If anyone remembered seeing me… If anyone said my name… Everything would be finished for me. I swallowed hard. I had to leave. I could not stay in that room one more second. I changed faster, buttoning and pulling without patience. I didn’t care if the clothes looked messy. I just needed to go. I stepped out from behind the curtain. Vivian turned to me. “Are you okay?” she asked. I nodded too quickly. “Yeah. I just remembered something important. I have to go now.” Her brows pulled together. “Are you sure? You look…” “I’m fine,” I cut in. I forced a small smile again. “I’ll call you later.” I picked my bag from the couch. The others barely noticed me leaving. They were still talking about the rumor. As I walked to the door, I heard another voice say: “If they find the girl, she’s finished oh. They will drag her till next year.” Someone laughed again. Someone clicked their tongue. Someone said, “God forbid it’s someone I know.” I stepped outside and closed the door behind me. The hallway felt quieter, but my ears were still ringing out with loud talks. I felt like I couldn’t breathe properly. I walked down the hallway slowly at first. Then faster. Then almost running. My heart beat hard against my ribs. Like it wanted to break out. I thought about Roman. His face when he walked past me today. His silence. His distance. I thought about how everything could fall apart. How everything could be exposed. I held my phone tight in my hand. So tight that it almost hurt. I didn’t know where I was going. I just needed to keep moving. I could not stop now. I just needed space. I needed air. I stepped outside the hostel building. The sky looked normal. Students walked as usual. No one looked at me. But I felt like the ground under me was weak. Like it could open if someone whispered my name the wrong way. I kept walking. One step. Then another. My hands still shook. My throat still felt tight. I told myself to calm down. To breathe. To think. But my mind kept going back to one thing— If they find out… I am finished. I walked faster. I didn’t look back. I walked towards the college courtyard, but I didn’t enter. I stood near the side path where flowers were planted in rows. The breeze there helped me breathe a bit. I held my phone again and refreshed the forum. More comments have been added. People were typing fast, like they were hungry for a new scandal. I wanted to cry but nothing came out. I just felt stuck. I sat down on the small stone edge near the walkway. I hugged my bag close to me. I didn’t want anyone to see my face. I kept my head down. Why did things have to turn out like this? All I ever did was fall in love once. And then once again by mistake. I sat there until my breathing slowed a little. I had to figure out what to do next. But right now, I just needed to keep my head up and walk away from this building before someone asked me questions. So I stood up. I fixed my clothes with my hands. And I kept walking.
