The creature advanced with quick, erratic movements, like a predator toying with its prey. Its glowing red eyes focused intently on Caroline, who stumbled, paralyzed by the whisper of the Witch of Jealousy in her mind.
“Caroline, move!” Ezra shouted, urgency thick in his voice. He lunged toward the creature, raising a wall of ice just in time to block its claws.
The impact was brutal, shattering the ice wall, but it gave Liam enough time to shove Caroline out of the creature’s reach.
“What are you doing?!” Liam growled, shaking her slightly by the shoulders. “This isn’t the time to zone out!”
Caroline blinked, regaining focus. “I’m sorry, I… I heard her voice.”
“What voice?” Liam asked, but before he could get an answer, the creature roared again, charging toward them.
