Valerian
The pleasure still surged within me. What they said was true, there is no greater joy to be had in this world than fully bonding to your mate. Her body pressed against mine sparking me up with an electric current, the thrill so intense it neared the point of pain. My mate laid beneath me trying to catch her breath.
Her eyes were still closed from the orgasm that racked her pale form. Her soft curves and perfect skin ensnared me. Sweet pink n*****s stood out against the swells of her breasts. I took pride in knowing how well our bodies worked together. I took pride in knowing she bore my mark and belonged to me. She would forever be mine.
I worshiped her with my gaze for an endless moment. A buzzing replaced the warm tingling in my chest. The intensity of it grew turning to searing pain. Rather than calming, she panted. Her reddened skin grew brighter instead of fading back to her peach or pearl colored skin. My mate's distress transferred through our newly cemented bond.
Something snapped, and she screamed in agony. I almost screamed with her, but I held it back. I pushed up to my knees looking her over. "Ardenti?" Another snap sounded and another. Her shrieks of agony burned my body and my soul. I pulled back from her, hoping the absence of my touch would restore her magic and end her suffering.
"What are you doing to me?" Her screams ripped through the night. It wouldn't be long until someone came to check. A choking sob escaped her throat as the snaps came faster and faster. She curled in on herself, her limbs changed shape slowly before my eyes. I was struck by the familiarity, but at that moment, I was too stunned to understand what was happening.
My beta's voice sounded in my head Ian, is everything okay?
I forced myself to answer. Everything is fine. Keep everyone away.
It sounds like a pup is shifting for the first time. I pushed him out of my mind and put up a wall to block our connection. I couldn't deal with his good-natured concern at the moment. One last agonized shriek sounded from my mate, before she disappeared. In her place, stood the most glorious wolf I had ever seen.
Her fur perfectly mimicked the soft lavender color of Ardenti's eyes in her demon form. She stood taller than any she-wolf before her. Her eyes were brilliant blue like her human form and most peculiar of all were the set of gleaming black demon horns that sat atop her head. She truly became the most majestic and terrifying creature I would ever see, and I was all the more besotted by her.

Ardenti
The pain faded from my limbs. I opened my eyes, unsure of how I had gotten to my feet. The world was different, somehow it appeared lovely to me. I never thought of anything as lovely. A snarl ripped through the quiet. I searched the room for the threat. I found nothing, but Valerian holding his palms up. "Ardenti, my love, everything is alright. You have to calm down."
I took in his words. He was the greatest threat to me of all, but at this moment he meant me no harm. I realized the vibrating in my chest was no longer a growing beast inside. That beast had already ripped its way free. Her growls were the only thing tearing through me now. I looked into his wide eyes. I expected to see fear but I found awe.
My gaze searched deeper into them, and found what could only be my own reflection. The giant horned wolf looking back at me stunned me beyond reason. I thought of killing him now in this new powerful form, but the beast I became wouldn't even consider the treachery. In my head she screamed Mate!
I flew through the air, both of us pounced on him. His frightened look was priceless. He shifted as our bodies tangled, instantly rearranging his shape. I landed on top of him licking and sniffing at him playfully. I didn't understand what happened, but I was not in the driver's seat.
I watched from the confines of my own mind, as the wolf within me played and rollicked with the one she loved above all else. Valerian's wolf stood tall and black as night. The crown of his head held speckled bits of white. It reminded me of stars dancing in the night sky.
His strength radiated off him. He had the inborn power of an alpha, but it seemed to be more than that. The creature's mate was impressive. He bit her at the scruff of her neck and growled a sweet and possessive sound. Her whole body vibrated in pleasure while mine shrunk away, terrified at the depth of the feeling. He trotted to the window pointing his snout to the full moon hanging in the sky.
The creature controlling my body yelped happily. She wanted to run with her mate as much as he needed to be with her. Their twin desires buzzed inside me, as I did my best to separate what remained of myself from them both. They raced each other through the pack house, and out into the open field outside. They ran, wrestled, and played together under the moonlight.
A sense of comfort ran through me that I never knew before. I resisted the creature. I resisted her love for the wolf she played with, but I couldn't help the way the moon felt on me. It reached inside the body of the creature and touched my demon face, that still existed inside this silly playful thing.
The lunar glow caressed me. It called to me. It told me I was home and that I shouldn't fight. I couldn't give in to it. I was a creature of darkness, the princess of fire and brimstone. Hell was my domain. The call of the moon couldn't remind me of home.
Valerian's wolf led us to a stream where they drank and swam. My beast snapped up a fish and ate it raw. My stomach rolled in a way that didn't involve her body, but left my mind churning. I spent the night watching, and listening to the creature's wordless love and joy. I wasn't sure what curse had befallen me.
I knew for sure that she was not me. We would not be reconciling our differences. She would lose her strength and energy. When she let my true form emerge, I would find a way to lock her up and throw away the key.
Something warmed my skin like a mother's embrace and I quickly threw the thought away. I had no mother. I came from the darkness and the king of hell, nothing more. My faith in my ability to kill the starry faced black wolf before me started to fade, but the mutt within me was an entirely different story.
