RETURN OF THE EX WIFE

CHAPTER FOUR The trip to Los Angeles was the best Eloise had been on in a while. At first, she was uptight about the whole arrangement, but when she finally realized that Mr. Robert didn't mean any harm and just wanted her to genuinely enjoy herself, she loosened up and began adjusting to the environment. That one month was the best ever. Throughout her life as an orphan, she had not seen such wonderful places before, and she was grateful to Mr. Robert for showing her love, even when she feared that she might never be able to reciprocate the love he was showing to her. In no time, the month was over, and they both returned home. She resumed her job as both secretary and wife, cooking alone and never allowing the house chef to cook for her husband, even when he told her she didn’t have to. She took care of Mr. Robert and always got to work on time as well, which made Mr. Robert very proud of her. However, she noticed the new manager who had been managing the company during their absence, Mr. Allen. He was handsome and looked totally like her type of man. One day, she came home from work earlier than her husband and met a beautiful young lady with a model-like structure in the sitting room, waiting patiently. She didn’t need anyone to tell her that this was the popular Miss Megan Roberts, ex-wife of her husband, Mr. Robert. “Hello, good afternoon, ma’am. Can I help you?” she asked when she walked in and knew that this was trouble in packaged form. “Hello, Mrs. Eloise Roberts. Looks like we bear the same surname,” Megan said, and Eloise wondered why she had not changed her surname despite having divorced Mr. Roberts. “Well, I hope that is a coincidence,” Eloise responded, feigning ignorance, and Megan burst into laughter. “Oh, please! You don’t have to pretend you don’t know me. The famous Megan Roberts, ex-wife of your husband,” Megan said as she took a stroll around Eloise. “I thought Robert would make a better choice after me, but I guess I was wrong. A secretary?” she said and laughed. “Who would believe he would stoop that low?” “Excuse me, ma’am. I don’t know you, and you have no idea who I am, so I’d advise you not to come into my house and insult me,” Eloise said as she maintained her calm. “No, darling, you are forgetting something,” Megan said and walked to stand in front of her, with her long fingernails pointing out as she spoke. “This house was mine before it was yours. Robert was mine as well before he became yours. Even the bed you sleep on, always remember, I slept on it and we made love on it, even before you arrived here two years ago. And… I know a lot about you, baby girl, more than you know.” She responded saltily, and Eloise sighed in frustration. “I’ve noted all of that. Now, what are you doing here? If you left all of this for someone else to take over, what the hell are you doing in my house?” Eloise asked as she ground her teeth together. “Well, I came to see my husband. It’s been a while, you know… Oh, there he is… Hello, darling,” she said suddenly, turning to the door, and Eloise turned as well to meet Mr. Robert walking into the room. “Megan! What are you doing here?” he asked as Megan walked to him with a perverted smile and gave him a very tight hug, making Eloise watch. “Megan! Let me go!” he exclaimed as he tried to disentangle himself from her arms, and Eloise folded her hands, watching them in disbelief with an eyebrow raised. Mr. Robert finally freed himself from Megan’s arms and walked toward Eloise. “Hey! I’m sorry. Go upstairs. Let me take care of this, okay?” he said, and she stared into his eyes and saw that he meant it. “Okay!” she said, and with one final look at Megan, turned to walk up the stairs. “No! Don’t go yet! You haven’t introduced me to your darling wife, Roberts,” Megan began, and Eloise paused on the stairs. “But, we’ve met and introduced ourselves anyway, or I mean… I only did the introduction. However, I was trying to remind her that wherever she sets foot in this house, I was there before her, and wherever she sits, I sat there as well, so she shouldn’t be too proud of herself. I was hoping we would get along too.” “Megan, shut up! Why are you speaking like a drunk person? Are you okay?” Mr. Robert asked angrily, and Megan laughed. “Me, drunk? Nope. Not today. I’m not drunk today. I just came to mark my territory,” she said, laughing. “You don’t have a territory here, Megan. Not anymore,” Mr. Robert growled at her, and she mockingly cowered away. “Why are you speaking to me in that tone, Roberts? Do you want to show her the monster in you? What you truly are?” she asked, crying, and Mr. Robert turned to Eloise on the stairs again, his eyes glistening in anger. “Go upstairs, Eloise,” he snapped at her, and again, she began her journey, wondering what Megan meant by showing the monster in him. “Why are you pursuing her? Tell her to wait and see what you are capable of, or you wouldn’t want to show her that side of you, oh, not yet! It actually took a while to get there,” Megan was laughing hysterically, and anger surged in Eloise as she took the stairs one at a time until she stopped again. “If he is a monster and you left him because of that, why did you come back? Why?” Eloise suddenly screamed at her, and the house became quiet as Megan’s mood suddenly changed. She looked up at Eloise on the stairs with a different emotion in her eyes, something close to concern or care. “Because… I came back because… I came for you… From him…” she said and paused in the silence, then began laughing again. “…so I can have him all to myself.” “Eloise… I’m not going to tell you to go upstairs again. Leave this place this instant,” Mr. Robert suddenly growled at her, making her jerk in disbelief. Why was he so angry? She had never seen him this angry before, and he had never screamed at her this way in her two years, getting to three years of knowing him. So she stood there, staring into his angry eyes as she tried to process what was going on. “Yes! Show her that monster, darling,” Megan sang happily. “Go to the room, Eloise,” Mr. Robert finally growled the final time, and she ran all the way up to her room with tears running down her eyes. What was going on? What was she missing? What monster was Megan talking about?
