36 The Nagi The Nagi didn’t know what she had expected of Jian’s plan, but this certainly wasn’t it. She crouched down, hidden in the wheat fields north of the city. Behind them, along the road winding through the fields, sat what remained of Piao’s trained army, the palace guard. They perched high above their war horses, encased in steel armor that shone as the dawn broke across the horizon, throwing blood red streaks of haze across the sky. It was fitting on a day like this.
