Chapter Six: Part Two.

When we got home Dalton was in the kitchen along with Travis, Tristan and Kyle. I had just dropped my bags onto the kitchen table top when one of my father’s guards stepped into the room. “Alphas your father would like to have a word with you in private concerning the Rogue infestation” the guard announced addressing both Dalton and me as he bowed his head to show respect and submission. Dalton looked to Tristan then nodded. “Certainly” my brother answered for the both of us stepping towards the door to follow the guard that had already disappeared. I followed my brother out of the kitchen but not before glancing at Tristan who looked at me with a clenched jaw. Upstairs the guards held my father’s study door open for us motioning us in. “You called father?” Dalton asked as I stood by the now closed door silent and with my head bowed. I wasn’t shore if my father was worthy of my respect anymore but if I showed my unwillingness to respect him I knew they’d suspect that something was up. “Yes have a seat you two there are some things I’d like to discuss” our father said motioning towards the seats in front of his desk. Dalton stayed standing but I headed over to the sitting area off to the side and took a seat facing the fireplace. “About the Rogues?” Dalton being the only one to say anything yet asked with his arms crossed over his toned chest hidden behind a black tight fitted T-shirt. “They’ve been trailing too close to the northern border, I fear that their starting to get out of hand” our father explained with a nod in reply to Dalton’s question. I stayed quite looking at the map of the territory splayed out across the coffee table in front of me. “A few Rogues are nothing we can’t handle father, some of our best Warriors are stationed along that border” Dalton reminded, taking on the full role of a true Alpha to be. I heard a chair move and knew that our father was up out of his desk chair. “Right but a handful of Rogues is enough to cause some damages, damages that’ll leave us with weaknesses against the Tyrant pack” my father was smart. He thought through every possible way and strategy before even thinking about making a move. He took his role as a player in a chess match, taking time to make each move correctly in order to win. “Alpha Caine and his Beta are in our custody father, they're no threat towards us” Dalton reasoned as I stared down at the map trying to see which rout would be the less likely for my father to suspect when Hayden and I just suddenly disappear the night of the party. “But there’s still a Gamma and Luna leading their pack, they’ll want their Alpha back and they’ll come for him which means we can’t afford to be weak” I almost laughed at my father’s words. They weren’t going to come for their Alpha not when they have two innocent wolves, Hayden and I, willing to break them out from the inside. “Then what? We kill the Rogues before they become a threat to us?” Dalton asked and I knew from years of experience that our father was a man who had no remorse for anything when it came to his pack. “To protect the pack we have to do everything in our power to keep our members protected” my father said with a nod of his head, dancing around a simple ‘yes’. Dalton took a deep breath, nodding his head in agreement “Good now I want every one of my best fighters out on that border and ready to strike on command” my brother bowed his head in submission towards his Elder “Yes Alpha” Dalton then turned on his heels and headed out the door leaving me alone with my father. “Rachel? I hear you’re getting along quite well with Tristan” I closed my eyes since my back was turned to my father and took a deep breath. I should’ve known that would be the reason why he’d want to see me, the engagement was all he cared about, insuring that our blood line stayed strong. “Of course, it’s what you wanted, isn’t it?” I asked eyes still focused on the map, planning my escape from my father’s reign. He stepped to the side where a floor to wall window sat revealing the back yard and the forest beyond. “What I want is a pure Alpha blood line so your children would be strong enough to be-.” I cut him off having heard the same words coming from him many times in the past. He’d always say that he wanted his grandchildren to be powerful “To be born Warriors and ideal Leaders” my father turned away from the window to look at me but I refused to meet his gaze instead keeping my eyes on the pack territory. “Precisely, the next generation of our kind has to be strong, you as Alpha should know that by now” he said with a nod in agreement to my statement. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath stopping myself before I could snap at him. “But why? Why make them into fighters?” I asked opening my eyes and for the first time looking up to meet my father’s gaze “Because the world is a battle field and in order to survive you have to be strong enough to defend yourself” He was talking about enemies and war for whatever reason. Over the decades a total of three wars had been declared under the werewolf population. None like human wars, no, more bloody with less humanity involved much like an animalistic slaughter. “Even when it costs you your rights?” the words slipped out of my mouth before I even had a chance to stop them but my father only nodded. “Especially when it costs you your rights” he turned back to the window most likely looking out onto pack members doing whatever in the afternoon sun. “The wedding will take place one week after the engagement as planned” my father announced glancing out the window one last time before he turned and once again went back to his desk chair. “You’re dismissed” when I stood to leave, the territory was already mapped out in my mind and I knew exactly which rout to take and whe. n “Yes father” I said with a bow of my head in submission and respect then I left to go get ready for graduation. ------------------------------ It was the after party for graduation and everyone was gathered in the school gym. Our black graduation robes were abandoned and I was dressed in a little blue number with black platform heels. My parents were talking to the school principle and my brother and Nicole were chatting to some old high school friends. I was off to the side laughing with Travis and Matt. Matt was one of Kyle’s friends, he’s a Hunter in my father’s pack and by far one of the best we’ve got. “So how are things going with you and Nicky?” Travis asked plastic drink cup in hand while the other was stuck in his jean pocket. He was leaning up against one of the gym walls near the door that led to the football field. “It’s going great man, Nicky and I finished mating last week” Matt said daydreaming about his girlfriend, Nicky, who used to date Kyle before he found out that he was mated to Bridget. Matt and Nicky weren’t mates but they might as well have been from the way they acted around each other. Just then Nicky came up dressed in a bronze dress that brought out her skin tone. “And he asked me to marry him” Nicky announced flashing a diamond ring at me with an excited grin. I smiled faintly, sad that I wasn't experiencing that kind of joy and was supposedly marrying the wrong person. “Really? When’s the date set for?” I asked trying to join in on the conversation. I had my own drink in one hand and the other was wrapped around my torso as I shuffled my weight from foot to foot. “Next year June 7th” she said her arm hooked through Matt’s as she smiled up at him placing a quick kiss to his cheek. “That’s great, you two are perfect for each other” I complimented knowing that it was true. They were two halves of a whole like mates but without the strong bond. It was then that I felt like someone was watching me and from the tingles that went through my spine I knew it was Hayden so glancing across the room I noticed him near the gym doors, lending back against the wall with his arms crossed. “Rachel? Are you listening?” Nicky asked snapping me out of my trans and turning my attention back to her. “Oh uh sorry what was that?” I asked sneaking glances every now and then to where Hayden stood. Travis followed my gaze and gave me a knowing lookmost likely having heard from Tristan that Hayden and I were mates. “I was telling you about his mother and how she acted after the engagement” Nicky explained but I wasn’t even listening. Setting my half empty cup down on a nearby table, I said with an apologetic smile “Sounds interesting, I have to use the restroom so if you’ll excuse me” I started making my way through the crowd making shore no one was paying attention as I shot a look in Hayden’s direction. ‘Meet me in the hall’ I sent through the mind link then disappeared through the gym doors into the school halls. Shortly after that Hayden came strolling out of the gym. “Hay” he greeted with his hands stuffed into the pockets of his dark wash jeans. I smiled. “Hay” I said standing up on my tip toes to place a quick kiss to his lips when I was shore we were completely alone. “You wanted to see me?” he asked in a daze from the short contact. I grinned grabbing onto his hand then started leading him towards the nearest exit “Yeah common” I ushered pulling him through a side door that lead to the parking lot. “Where are we going?” he asked looking around at the deserted parking lot stocked full of cars while I headed for the tree line on the other side of the parking area. “You’ll see” I muttered then let go of his hand to run off into the woods. Hayden stood speechless staring after me as I kicked my shoes off. “What are you-? Hay, wait up!” he called after me but I just giggled swerving through trees and looking out for risen tree roots. I heard him following and started going faster. “Rachel!” I heard him call but I didn’t stop instead I started laughing happily shooting a look back in his direction. He was gaining but not by much. “Common you’re faster than that!” I teased with a bright smile lighting up my face causing him to smile when he looked at me then he started running faster, fast enough to be at arms-length. I broke through the tree line into a small clearing and turned jogging backwards when Hayden suddenly scooped me up and was twirling me around. I laughed with sheer joy, my head thrown back and my hands clasped onto his shoulders while his were locked around my thighs holding me up. When he finally stopped spinning me we just stood there in the middle of the clearing with him holding me close. Gazing into his eyes I found them studying me as if I was some magnificent artwork on display. “You’re beautiful” Hayden breathed in all honesty never once braking my gaze when he said it. I smiled reaching both hands up to cup his face tenderly in my palms. “I love you” I whispered our lips just inches away from each other sending my warm breath across his face. Hayden closes the gap between us and slowly kissed me with so much passion that it caused my heart to ached for him. I smiled into the kiss before he pulled away pressing his forehead against mine. “I love you more” he muttered tightening his arms around me. I couldn’t wish for a more perfect moment then that, the way he held me, kissed me with the almost full moon high up in the starry night sky and the forest around us. I felt at home in those few moments together and knew that I’d never know any other home than a home where I was securely wrapped in his arms.
