And two resemble each other and yet do not.” Alexander turned the second riddle over his mind as he lay on a cot on the loggia outside his suite, his right ankle resting on the knee of his bent left leg so that the space between them formed a triangle. With the flat side of a palm frond, he tapped the inner thigh of his crossed leg. “What are the two things that stand still…?” Though his rooms were magnificently appointed, he preferred the simplicity of the cot and the cool of the loggia as it reminded him of the nights he slept out under the stars with his men.
