13 Torben and Gwilym panted as they mounted the crest of one of the many rolling hills that littered the landscape. Around them, the men and women of Princess Theodora’s guard slogged onwards. Torben was gratified to think that even these professional soldiers were beginning to wilt under the efforts of the prolonged forced march they were undergoing.
