5 The Box Lanai A covered porch or veranda; where you pile your slippers before entering the house. “Oh,” Uncle Kahana said, waving a hand toward the front of the house, “from Hari’s. I brought you guys the box.” “The box?” “It’s in the driveway. Go. Shoo. Out of here, now. ‘Ilima and I have something important we gotta do.” He flapped both hands at me and picked up the remote from the coffee table. When I didn’t move, he added, “What are you waiting for? Go!” There was too much to think about. Escape was a relief. I got up from the couch and headed toward the front door. “Umbrella!” he called.
