Liz, Zader and Jay’s mom, closed her eyes as she listened to Amy, Char Siu’s mom, on the phone.
“I don’t know, Amy. I haven’t been home all day. It makes sense that Charlene is with the boys, and they’re with Uncle Kahana. They’re probably stealing mangoes or exploring the ravine or rescuing a mongoose. Never know with Kahana.”
Pause.
“I’ll send her home when I see her. Don’t worry, they’re fine. Okay. Take care.”
Liz hung up the kitchen phone.
“Char Siu’s missing, too?” asked Paul, Zader and Jay’s dad.
He looked up from the kitchen table where he was reading the paper and sipping a glass of juice.
“That settles it. For sure they’re goofing off somewhere with Uncle Kahana.”
