31 The Competition Hammajang Broken; used up; old; worn down; junk. As I crossed the parking lot to the pavilion, I almost dropped my sketchbook. It was filled with drawings, but I didn’t like any of my ideas. The wall space was huge, and nothing I thought of would fill four sheets of paper let alone entire walls. Mr. Halpert said we could fix anything as long as it was on paper, but I doubted it. He’s going to take one look at these and send me to Lauele High. He’ll give my Ridgemont scholarship to somebody else. Everyone will know I can’t do this. I wanted to die, but I made myself walk on.
