Chapter 11

The Redd Dawn, I had heard about it. It took me a while to realize where I had heard it before. The creature had mentioned earlier on when we were talking to him. “Montezuma said that was what made this place with an artificial light.” Walker said. “The leader of the male camp said that?” Sammie said. “Yes,” Walker said. “Why did he say that?” Sammie said looking scared. “It isn’t the case?” I asked. “No, the artificial light of this place is created an artificial fission.” Sammie said. “Montezuma would have known that.” “Why the hell did he tell us something different then?” I asked. “That is another thing that we have discovered to be a lie.” Walker said. “What was the other lie?” Sammie said. “That there were no males in this city.” I said. “Why would he say that?” Sammie said. “He was saying it was because of the Sun Eater.” Walker said. “That is really weird.” Sammie said. “So, what the hell is this Red Dawn thing now?” I said. “It creates an artificial sun,” Walker said, and I shot a look at him.  “You knew that?” I asked. “That’s why I didn’t think what Montezuma had told us was incorrect.” Walker said. “But if it creates an artificial sun, why the hell would it cause an entire city to be frozen?” I asked. “The way it creates an artificial sun is to draw energy from around it.” Sammie said. “Usually this happens in space but if it happens on a planet it can suck up the energy in the air, by which would mean it would suck up the heat and cause a bright flash as it would be unable to fully become a stable fission in an atmosphere.” “That explains that damn flash we saw,” I said nodding. “But this must have been a test,” Sammie added. “A test?” Walker repeated. “It has to be,” Sammie said. “Because the Red Dawn in an atmosphere is much more dangerous than just simply freezing a city.” “More dangerous?” Walker asked. “How much more dangerous?” I asked. “I can only extrapolate on that,” Sammie said. “But I think the Red Dawn could suck out the entire atmosphere out of a planet.” “You’re kidding,” Walker said turning white. “What the hell is an atmosphere?” I asked. “You are very far from home, aren’t you?” Sammie giggled cutely, and it made me uneasy. It wasn’t my damn fault she was attractive for a furless female. “I suppose you can say that,” I decided to play it cool. “That’s the thing that is around the planet that has all the stuff you can breathe, and stuff.” Walker said as if he was trying to explain it as simple as he could. “Oh, why don’t you just call it the air?” I asked. “Most races know it as an atmosphere,” Walker shrugged. “Got it,” I said. “So, this Red Dawn thing can essentially suck up the air?” “Yes,” Sammie said. I gulped at that idea. This thing sounded a lot more dangerous than the Mask of Damus. It was then I started to think about the fact that these guys had two extremely dangerous things. One was the Mask of Damus, and now they had the Red Dawn. They were a lot more dangerous than what I thought they were. But the thought lingered, why did that primate say that Hunraken was not smart enough to pull off what he was pulling off on his own? It was suddenly becoming more pressing to find Hunraken and his cronies. “Do you think they will try something like that?” Walker said. “I wouldn’t put it past Hunraken,” Sammie said. “So essentially we need to stop this bozo?” I said. “Yes, but what isn’t sitting well with me is this thing that Lord Hanuman said, about he is not smart enough to pull something off like this on his own.” Sammie said. “You have any idea who the devil that primate was eluding to?” I asked. “I don’t know,” Sammie said hesitantly. “One of the others might.” “But you were his personal assistant from what you said,” I said. “Yes, but one of the others could know who he dealt with more intimately.” Sammie said she frowned as if thinking about something. “Maybe Theresa,” “Theresa?” I asked. “Yes, Theresa Heather Rumilda Emily Epstein.” Sammie said. “THREE was her code name, she managed the meetings that Hunraken had back in the day and that was how I was able to tie Hunraken to the Rho Projects and know that he was the one behind that phony invasion.” “Of course, it’s only a theory I have,” Sammie said. “It’s going to be hard finding her.” “But we have this map,” Walker said. “That map won’t work,” Sammie said. “Why not?” I asked. “Because that is tracking an implant, we all had. But Theresa removed her implant back when she was helping us tie Hunraken to everything.” Sammie said. “So, finding her will be impossible.” I said. “Not necessarily,” Sammie said. “I am sure if we put our attention it we could figure out where she is or where she could be.” “So even though you kept tabs on all of you, you don’t know exactly where she is?” I asked, and Sammie shook her head. “Well that’s great.” “Let’s grab some lunch and we’ll discuss this further.” Sammie said. Walker and I agreed. We had not eaten anything since before we had entered the challenges of Damus. Which seemed like such a long time ago. Both of us were starving. Sammie insisted on making food versus going off and buying something. Though we protested, that we could get our own food she insisted, and we relented. Sammie seemed to be at home when we reached a kitchen. She glided back and forth in the kitchen grabbing all of her tools, grabbing food, and grabbing pots and pans and stuff. She quickly glided through it and started chopping things, slicing things, throwing stuff into the different pots and pans. I watched her and couldn’t help to have a thought in my mind she would make a good mate. I shook the idea out of my head, taking a furless as a mate would surely get me even more shunned from my kind. I am sure I was already an outcast of the surviving members of my kind. While she was getting things ready, I was starting to go over things in my head. There was one thing nagging at me, Lacia being here on this planet, in the form of this girl named Alexis Rose. There was something screaming in my mind that was saying that this indeed was the case. I had known that my kind had believed that when one died it was not the end. The consciousness or the spirit or whatever you would call it would move on to another form. How, however, Lacia’s spirit had wound up all the way over here…I had no idea, however there was a common person that could have brought her here the same way that…. “That son of a…” I said. I suddenly realized, that Hanuman could have brought her to Rho. “What’s going on?” Walker asked. “I realized that Hanuman could have brought Lacia here,” I said. “What do you mean?” Walker asked. “That girl Alexis Rose, I have a nagging feeling that she was the next body that Lacia took on.” I said. “Hanuman must have brought her here. The problem was how did he get her here before he was able to get me here?” “Maybe it’s easier to transport a spirit?” Walker suggested. “Maybe,” I said, I had lost myself watching Sammie for a bit again. She was quite the systematic cook, and as she was doing it I was suddenly wondering if we were able to procreate would our children be Beghrest or Fakir or a combination of the two. Could we even procreate? I shook my head vigorously, me being away from my race for so long was probably driving me batty. It was then I started to wonder if I might be going into a rut soon. The idea worried me. At some point during the adolescent years of a Beghrest, the male goes through what is called a rut, well a male goes through a rut for most of their life but starts off bad during his first few years. I had not gone through a bad rut yet. Maybe it was mating with Llena when we were so young that made me not have a rut yet. This had me worried though, ruts were extremely bad during the first few that Beghrest males went through. It gets so bad that usually any female around is not safe from a Beghrest male in a rut. Usually this is like the only defense someone would have if they did commit something like rape, however, when that happens the female usually does realize the male is in a rut and usually allows the male to do with her in hopes of helping the male. This really worried me. I had been away from my kind for over a year, and I was in that age where this could happen at any point. This made me fear for the safety of any female around me. Especially Sammie. I decided to keep my composure as much as I could for now. “You seem quiet.” Walker said. “Just thinking things over,” I said. “About all the stuff we just learned?” Walker asked. “Yes, mostly that,” I said. “You like Sammie?” Walker whispered. “She isn’t bad for a furless,” I said. “How does that work for your race? I mean…actually never mind I don’t want to know.” Walker said turning redder as he continued the sentence. “But its weird you’ve liked her and liked Uriel, and they are not like your race at all.” “I don’t know boy,” I said. “It might have something to do with Lacia, Lacia was not like my race. She was almost like a furless…yet she wasn’t. She was very beautiful.” “Hmm…” Walker said. “Food’s ready,” Sammie suddenly called out. Walker and I looked at each other before looking out. Sammie had prepared quiet the meal. She neatly put plates on this table and we walked over to them. I was quite hungry, but I tried to keep my manners around a female and ate what she had given me. “Wow this is really good,” Walker said. “Thanks,” Sammie smiled. “Aren’t you going to eat something?” I asked after I managed to chew enough of my food and covering my mouth. “Oh, I am not hungry right this second,” Sammie said. “So Hunter, where are you from exactly?” “Far from here,” I said. “How far?” Sammie asked. “I am sure you have never heard of it,” Walker said. “So that’s why you are wearing that belt?” Sammie said pointing at the belt. “You know what this is?” I asked. “I’ve seen it before,” Sammie nodded. “And you know it disguises people?” I asked. “Yes, and it does it in a way that is light years ahead of anything I have ever seen before.” Sammie said. “So, what do you really look like?” “Would you believe a giant 7-foot wolf?” Walker asked. “Oh, come on,” Sammie said snorting. “There is no such thing as that.” “She’s right boy, don’t trick her like that,” I said. Simply because for some reason I didn’t want her to know my true form yet. Maybe if our relationship continued, I would tell her. Walker seemed to have gotten the hint and nodded in agreement. “Even if you were a 7-foot wolf, I wouldn’t care.” Sammie said. My heart skipped a beat when she said this. “Really?” Walker said. “Only EIGHT was programmed to have emotions, yet we all have them.” Sammie said. “We can all decide to love and care for whoever we want.” “I see,” Walker said. I had no idea what the hell that meant, and I was about to ask that when suddenly someone came barging in, into the kitchen. “Mistress,” a young female said barging. She looked like she was Walker’s age. Walker noticed that and turned red when the girl stared at him. She seemed to also blush when she saw Walker. I sniggered thinking it was cute for a moment. She was pretty tall for a young girl she looked like, from where she stood, she was as tall as Walker, but Walker seemed tall for a young member of his race when I thought of where he measured on Victor earlier. The young girl had these strange round things around her eyes. I had heard of these things before, they called them glasses, at least that was what they were called on Rho. She had light brownish almost blonde hair. She had her hair down along the sides of her head and it reached to just above her shoulders. She looked thin, under this dress she was wearing but Walker didn’t seem to mind that because he looked enamored of her. Her skin was slightly lighter than that of Walker, but she still had that sort of olive complexion that seemed to be common place with Walker’s race. “What is it Tanya?” Sammie said. “Sorry I didn’t know you had company,” Tanya said looking embarrassed. “It’s fine,” Sammie said waving it off. “You seemed to have come here urgently what is going on?” “Rana has not come back yet,” Tanya said. “Rana?” Sammie said she looked worried. “Excuse me gentlemen but I need to find one of my girls.” “Can we help?” Walker blurted out which made the girl look at him smiling. “I suppose,” Sammie said after a pause. I had no idea how we were supposed to help them, but who was I to try to deter Walker who clearly had only said that because he was wildly interested in Tanya. I thought it was adorable. Then again, I think this was the first time we had seen anyone remotely the same age as he was. “So, who is this Rana?” I asked “One of my working girls.” Sammie said. “One of my younger working girls.” “She also happens to be my cousin,” Tanya added. “Where was she last seen?” I asked. “That is what we are going to go check.” Sammie said. “I have a scheduling board where I keep tabs on my girls.” “So, what exactly did you get that girl into?” I asked. “We provide more than what you think we do,” Sammie said. “She went off for a maid service,” Tanya said. “She was really excited about it because I remember it was working for someone who was part of the army.” “Part of the army?” I said, and Walker echoed. “I do remember that,” Sammie said. “We’ll see soon enough.” We soon returned to the office we had found her originally in. Sammie walked behind the desk and opened that book she had been working on earlier. She looked down a row of names and stopped. “Hmm…” Sammie said. “What is it?” I asked. “Eugene Redd, that name sounds familiar to me, but I can’t picture why.” Sammie said. I looked over at Walker who shrugged, I wanted to see if he knew who that was but clearly, he did not know. “Rana said that he was some sort of member of the army,” Tanya said. I looked over at the book. Though I thought I wouldn’t understand the strange garbles somehow, I did. I saw this word that said requested younger girl scribbled in this neat handwriting. “Looks like he specifically requested a younger girl,” I pointed out. “That’s right I do remember that,” Sammie said. “Is that normal?” I asked. “Sometimes,” Sammie said. “Yeah a couple of weeks ago Rana went to baby sit for this woman, she specifically requested a younger girl.” Tanya said. “Sounds like you do provide more services than what I think.” I said. “Yeah I told you,” Sammie said. “I usually don’t get adult-oriented requests, and I rarely let any of my girls accept any of that sort of deal.” “I should have known you would not have made some sort of deal like that.” Walker said to Sammie, then nervously to Tanya he said, “Do you work here?” “Sometimes,” she said. “I went with Rana to that babysitting deal, for example.” “Where is that?” I pointed at this column that said Location, and where this was located at said Near the Temple of Saint Damus. I looked at Walker who read that and looked back at me. “A temple of Damus?” Walker mouthed. “Not far from here,” Sammie said. “I can take them there,” Tanya blurted, and she immediately started to get redder when we looked at her. “Sounds like a plan,” Sammie said. “So, who is this Eugene Redd character?” I asked. “I vaguely remember him,” Sammie said. “He was an older male, red hair but it was like turning white in spots, and he was a giant.” “How giant are we talking?” Walker said. “He towered above me,” Sammie said. “I would say maybe seven feet.” “Woah,” Walker said. “That’s not that impressive,” I said. “Maybe not for your kind, but my kind is pretty short compared to you.” Walker said. “Remember Victor was barely 6 feet tall.” “Eugene is a Golordian,” Tanya said suddenly. “She has a point,” Sammie said. “A Golordian?” I said. “Here?” “Remember that pact that the Fakirs and the Black Empire had?” Sammie said, and I nodded. “Well that is why there is a Golordian here.” “I see,” I said. “Could he be aligned with Hunraken?” “Maybe,” Sammie said frowning. “What’s with the face?” I said. “There’s something about that name,” Sammie said. “Eugene Redd, I feel like I have seen it somewhere.” “Could it be from when there was all that crazy experiments?” Walker said. “I don’t know…maybe.” Sammie said. “I guess we should see soon,” I said. “I think we should start there at least, in hopes of finding your friend.” Sammie nodded and she in a short while sent us on our way. Little did I know that this is where my adventure was really going to pick up. Walker and I followed Tanya who walked ahead of us. I stopped mid-stride and looked around. I had this feeling that something was watching me. I looked around several more times. “What’s wrong?” Walker asked. “Nothing,” I said not seeing anything. With my enhanced senses I knew something was watching us, but I didn’t see who it was. Part of me knew though, it felt like a snake was watching.
