Episode 2 :The First Morning

700 Words
The first thing she noticed… Was breathing. Not hers. Someone else’s. Her eyes slowly opened, still heavy with sleep. For a moment, everything felt normal—quiet room, soft light slipping through the curtains— Then it hit her. She wasn’t alone. Her eyes snapped open. “Oh my gosh.” She shot up slightly, clutching her blanket, her gaze darting across the room— And there he was. On the other side. Sleeping. Peacefully. Like it was completely normal. “…Right,” she whispered to herself. “The roommate.” The *male* roommate. She pressed her lips together, trying to calm her suddenly racing heart. “Okay. It’s fine. Totally fine. This is normal. People have roommates.” She paused. “…Not like this.” Carefully, she tried to get out of bed as quietly as possible. One wrong move and— *creak.* She froze. His eyes opened. And just like that— They made eye contact. Silence. Thick. Awkward. Unavoidable silence. “…Morning,” he said, his voice still rough from sleep. She blinked. “Good morning,” she replied quickly—too quickly. She immediately turned away, pretending to fix her blanket, even though it was already perfectly fine. Why was this so awkward?! It’s just a morning. A normal morning. Except it wasn’t. Because there was a guy in her room. Watching her. “Did you sleep well?” he asked. She paused. “…Yes.” A beat. “…You?” “Yes.” Another silence. She wanted to disappear. Why were they talking like strangers in an elevator?! “Oh—uh—I need to get ready,” she blurted out suddenly, grabbing her things. He nodded. “Okay.” She rushed toward the door— Then stopped. Slowly turning back. “…Don’t look.” He raised an eyebrow slightly. “I wasn’t planning to.” Her face turned red. “Good.” She quickly disappeared into the bathroom, closing the door behind her and leaning against it. “…What am I doing…” She covered her face with her hands. “This is so embarrassing…” Meanwhile— Inside the room, he sat up, running a hand through his hair, staring at the door she had just closed. “…She’s loud,” he murmured softly. But there was no annoyance in his voice. If anything… There was the faintest hint of amusement. A few minutes later, she came out, fully dressed and trying her best to act normal. Which she absolutely was not. He was already up, fixing his side of the room like he had been living there for months. “…You’re neat,” she said without thinking. “I don’t like mess,” he replied. She nodded. “Same.” Another pause. Then— Her stomach growled. Loudly. Her eyes widened. “…That wasn’t me.” He looked at her. “…It was me,” she corrected quickly, covering her face in embarrassment. A small silence. Then— “Do you eat breakfast?” he asked. She peeked at him. “…Sometimes.” He nodded, then reached into his bag and pulled out a small pack of bread. “You can have some.” Her eyes widened slightly. “…No, it’s okay. That’s yours.” “I don’t mind.” She hesitated. Then slowly walked closer, taking one piece. “…Thank you.” They stood there. Eating. In silence. Again. But this time… It didn’t feel as heavy. Just… awkward. Quietly awkward. And strangely… Not entirely uncomfortable. “…We should probably set a schedule,” she said suddenly, trying to sound practical. “For what?” “The bathroom. Mornings. So we don’t—uh—run into each other like this.” He nodded. “Okay.” She relaxed a little. “Good.” Another pause. Then she glanced at him. “…This is weird.” “Yes.” She let out a small laugh. At least they agreed on something. Two strangers. One room. One very awkward morning. And somehow… This was only the beginning.
