Ari comes to me to ask me what to do. “What do you mean you need instructions? Call the f*****g police”, I say with my shaking body and tears mixed with my sweat sliding down my face to my gown. My sister is still soaked in dad’s blood, and her eyes swollen from all the tears shed. Aunt D suggests we do not involve the police because it will implicate us in the long run. She asked us to go to our rooms and everything will be taken care of. How do we go back to sleep and pretend everything is fine?
Everyone looked engaged with their work and acted as if nothing had happened some hours ago. The living room looked spackless and smelled the same. The stain of Dad’s blood on the white fluffy carpet is gone. There’s nothing to prove blood was on it. Is it a new one or the same one? They couldn’t have gotten a new one to replace it within these few hours, could they? I have a lot of questions but patiently waiting for Aunty D in the living room with Amira. The atmosphere felt heavy and tense, both in their mind clouded with questions and fear.
Aunt D comes in in an all black v neck gown with her usual hairstyle and pencil heel. She stands facing us with an emotionless face, declaring our dad’s funeral will be held in the afternoon and the real conversation will start after the burial. She handed us coats that had a similar smell to my “magic” perfume and asked us to wear them.
After the burial, I strode through the path downtown with my hands clutched to my bag to a coffee shop to get some espresso for my nerves. Staring through the window, a French man in his early thirties passes by. I hear a strong bang on my table causing me to startle and bringing me back to reality. “ Where is he?, Where is his body ?”.. he said. As I stand to leave, he grabs me by the hand and say” they’ll find you, you can’t hide from the p…., blood splashes on my body from the shot on the French guy.

“That’s not possible Paul , your wolf has been silent since you were 8, it can’t and won’t just awaken now. It might be your conscience playing with you since you are obsessed with it now.” Faith says. I know what I heard and I can’t stay still , I need to find her. It’s been a week now since I’ve seen her and I don’t think I will. I sigh.
The building aroma of my secret sauce made of just garlic, ginger, and bay leaf on the stake I’m grilling fills the atmosphere. But my mind is still on that lady I met. I have never liked and hated someone at the same time , it makes me want to know more. “It smells so good, are his hands this good in the dark as well “? I pretend not to hear the whispers.
Ever since my wolf has woken, I can barely focus on one thing. I hear statements that are meant for just a few people. I see what’s happening in the far distance and my nose picks up smells 10 times quicker. I am finding it difficult to control it.

“Your sister will feel worse if she sees you weary and pale, I will watch her, go and take your bath and rest”. I raise my head to reveal my heavy puffy eyes, “ I’ve had enough rest Aunt D”. She embraces me while patting my back, and said “Your warm bath is ready. “. I reluctantly leave for my room in hopes of getting back soon. I’ve never seen my face this puffy before. I guess I need some cold water for my face first.
The house feels empty. With Dad gone and Tina still unconscious and in shock, the house doesn’t feel warm anymore. I go through the shelves in the study room looking for a book to read by her bedside. Aunt D enters with a cup of tea and hands it to me.
I hope she wakes up soon , I shouldn’t have been there.

I open my eyes but feel heavy. I look around and see no one but hospital equipment in the room. I gather the courage and lift myself, move to the window, and draw the curtains for the morning rays to penetrate through. My feet slip into the flip flops by the bed and I make my way to the study room. I don’t remember being sick so I’ll ask my dad about it. He will be in the study room by now.
“It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have been there. I shouldn’t have pulled the trigger… I thought he was trying to hurt her so I had to do it “ Amira said between hiccups and tears rolling down her cheeks. Aunt D runs her fingers through her hair while she sobs on her lap. “I will do anything to make it up to her “… “She will be fine”, Aunt D assures her.
They both stand up as they see me slide into the room, she wipes her tears and rushes to hug me, perks me, and starts to acclaim her love and apologies to me. This is unlike her.
“Is dad not back yet ?”, “And why is my room looking like a hospital? “ “And who did you kill to try to protect who ?”.
“How do you feel, Tina ?” They acclaimed. The nurse comes in to take me to the doctor while Amira and Aunt D wait outside. I see the doctor with Aunt V and Amira talking after my checkup and Amira looks upset.
It’s been 3 days of having these things in my room and everyone is acting strangely here. Dad’s phone keeps going to voicemail , I haven’t seen my sister for some days now even though we are all in this mansion and I still don’t know what’s wrong with me.
Aunt D comes to my room and gives me some good news that lights up my mood; she booked us a dinner reservation for tonight.

I stayed with her so long that I did not realize how fascinating her ocean blue eyes were, complementing her long black hair. She curled it today. I feel eyes all over us as we make it to our table and I know they are not on me. My sister commands attention without even trying; I don’t blame them, she looks innocent and nurturing, making anyone want to offer assistance.
I catch the chef we met the last time we were here, throwing glances at her- pathetic. Aside from his strong masculine figure, his grey eyes are more striking. He looks gentle but dangerous.

My wolf leaped for joy when my nose picked a familiar vanilla smell. She keeps calling on the waiter to pour her more wine. She stumbles as they stand to leave but gets her balance from the chair. Her hips move with each step making her curled black hair bounce in a dramatic pace. She ignores my smile as our eyes meet , she looks like she has never set eyes on me. She follows after the younger girl. In a rush to give her her purse and take her card, we bump into each other. She looks deep into my eyes, pulls me in for a kiss, hands me her card, and says, “ call me”. My heart skipped a beat and my torso enlarged in my pants. This girl just flatters me?

“You look rather shy, this is our third date and you still can’t look into my eyes” - he said. “ I told you I was not myself … when will you stop talking about it? “ - “ the day you admit you were drunk” . We both laugh and sip our cocktails while staring at each other. We missed the gallery exhibition, they had changed the location yesterday but we both didn’t check it out.
I bump into a man in his mid-thirties, with a fresh haircut and simple fitted clothes. “Désolé madam “he said. The vertical mark on his left brow gives him a more masculine appearance. “I know your dad and his business, call me when you want to know more”, he places his card into my palms and leaves.
