Chapter 10: First TimesThey draw away from each other, as though something is pulling them apart physically. She climbs off him awkwardly, avoiding eye contact as she sits next to him on the bed. She wraps her arms around herself. Is this where he realizes that he can't do it? That he's too good to be with a half shifter?
"You have a brother," he murmurs suddenly.
She startles and nods, remembering how she mentioned her brother to him on the horseback ride here. She wasn't sure if the memory was a dream, fuelled by the poison in her lungs.
"I should ask for his permission to wed you."
