The Meeting

After driving for several minutes, the car finally rolled to a stop in front of a luxurious hotel. Keira stepped out and paused beside the vehicle, calmly taking in her surroundings with observant eyes.
Before she could take another step, Tamie came running toward her, trying not to further irritate the already displeased Keira. Without a word, Keira shut the car door and headed toward the table she had reserved. Her heels clicked softly against the polished pavement as she walked with effortless grace toward her guest.
“I’m honestly sorry for keeping you waiting,” Keira said as she approached the man, who had already risen from his seat to greet her with a gentle hug. “Something unexpected came up.”
“I haven’t been waiting long. I just got here,” the man, Kelvin, replied as they both sat down.
“I’m glad you won’t hold it against me,” Keira said with a faint smile that quickly faded. “Now, I’d like to hear why you withheld the land you promised me and refunded the deposit I paid. We were supposed to finalize the agreement today.”
“Keira, calm down,” Kelvin said in a soothing voice. “I think you should forget about that land. I’m here with a much better proposal. Just take a look.”
“I want that land, and that land alone,” she replied firmly. “Any other proposal should be offered to the idiots and thieves who bribed you into breaking our agreement.”
“I wasn’t bribed, nor was I bought,” Kelvin answered, his expression tightening. “Everything I’ve done has been out of loyalty to you.”
“So you’re telling me you sold the property I intended to buy to someone else… even after I paid to secure the deal?” she asked, her voice dangerously calm.
Kelvin hesitated.
“Another company?” Keira interrupted before he could answer.
Her calm eyes remained fixed on him, patiently waiting for an explanation as to why someone she considered a close confidant and trusted business partner would betray her.
“Keira,” Kelvin called gently, “I would never knowingly put you in harm’s way. Please, just look at this proposal. It’s far better than the property you originally wanted.”
“No,” she said without hesitation. “I said no.”
Her voice remained calm, but every word carried unmistakable authority.
“Nobody takes what belongs to me. Do you really think I’ll back down from a fight that’s been brought to my doorstep? Hell no, Kelvin. You must be joking if you think I’m afraid of whoever threatened you. You broke our agreement, and now you’re trying to earn my trust with excuses.”
She rose from her seat, her eyes never leaving his.
“You didn’t just break a promise,” she said quietly, holding his gaze. “You broke the one thing I can never replace my trust.”
Without waiting for a response, Keira turned and walked away.
Tamie silently followed behind, doing her best to make herself invisible as the heavy silence settled between them.
