Episode - 4
Amara had begun to settle into her routine at Blackwood Enterprises, but each day seemed to bring a new storm. Resi’s sabotage had grown more calculated, and Ryan’s behavior had become increasingly strange.
That morning, Amara was running late. She hurried down the driveway, only to bump into Ethan, who was waiting in his usual spot.
“Amara,” he said, voice soft yet firm. “Let me carry your bag.”
She blushed. “Sir… it’s okay. I can manage.”
“No, let me,” he insisted, taking the bag with ease. His hand brushed hers briefly, and she felt a shiver she tried to ignore.
As they walked into the office, Resi’s sharp eyes caught them immediately. Her jaw tightened, and Amara could see the jealousy simmering beneath her polished expression.
“Why are you two together again?” Resi snapped, though she tried to mask it with a polite tone.
Ethan’s gaze shifted to Amara. “She needed help getting inside,” he said calmly.
Amara nodded, cheeks burning. “That’s all. Nothing more.”
Resi’s eyes narrowed. “Hmm. We’ll see about that,” she muttered under her breath before walking away.
⸻
The day passed in a blur of impossible tasks. Resi had assigned Amara a mountain of files, each stack heavier than the last, each deadline tighter. Amara worked tirelessly, her patience fraying, until finally she could no longer hold back.
She went to the break room to grab some coffee, hoping for a moment of calm. But as she poured, she heard quiet whispers behind the glass walls. Curiosity got the better of her, and she peeked — Resi was there, talking to Ryan.
“…She’s making this too easy for Ethan to notice,” Resi hissed.
Ryan’s face flushed. “I… I’m just following your plan.”
Amara’s heart skipped a beat. Plan? What plan? She listened closer, straining to hear.
Resi continued, “We need to make her mess up. Make Ethan see she’s unworthy. He’s too soft for her.”
Amara felt a sudden rush of clarity — and betrayal. Ryan liked Ethan. Not her. All this time, she had been wondering why he helped Resi, why he seemed to manipulate situations.
Her cheeks burned, but her heart… it didn’t feel broken. Instead, it shifted. She had begun to realize she liked Ethan. The man who had defended her, who had shown her kindness, who had treated her like she mattered.

By mid-afternoon, Ethan walked past her desk and noticed her distracted gaze. He paused, concern flickering in his eyes.
“Amara… everything okay?” he asked, leaning slightly over her desk.
She looked up, startled. “Yes, sir… I’m fine.”
He smiled softly. “You don’t have to pretend for me. I see when something’s wrong.”
Her heart fluttered. There it was — that warmth, that focus, that undeniable care. She wanted to tell him everything, but words failed her.
⸻
Later, the office fell into the usual chaos. Resi deliberately “accidented” her paperwork again, forcing Amara to redo it from scratch. She sighed, but she refused to show frustration this time. She had learned a valuable lesson: no one could control her heart.
As the day wound down, Ethan noticed her fatigue.
“You’ve been working nonstop,” he said quietly, approaching her. “Why don’t we call it a day? I can take you home.”
Amara hesitated. She wanted to refuse, worried about appearances. But something in his eyes, that soft, patient look, made her nod.
⸻
In the car, the world outside blurred. The tension of the office melted into a quiet intimacy.
“You’ve been here only a few days, yet you’ve already endured so much,” Ethan said gently. “How are you holding up?”
Amara hesitated, then confessed softly, “It’s been hard… some people make it… difficult. But you… you make it easier.”
Ethan’s lips curved into a subtle smile. “I’m glad. That’s all I want.”
For the first time, Amara felt a warmth in her chest that had nothing to do with fear or nerves. It was comfort, safety… and something more.
Their conversation flowed naturally, personal and intimate. She told him about her hometown, her family, her dreams. He shared snippets of his own life, his childhood, the pressures of being a CEO.
At one point, Ethan reached out, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. Amara’s breath caught. “Sir…?”
“Amara,” he said softly, voice low, “I want to know everything about you. All of it.”
Her heart raced. She had been so careful before, protecting herself. Now… she felt seen. Truly seen.
⸻
When they arrived at her home, Ethan glanced at her with something unreadable in his eyes. “You don’t have to go inside if you don’t want to,” he said.
She smiled shyly. “No… I want to. But… thank you for everything today.”
“You don’t need to thank me,” he said quietly. “I’ll always look out for you.”
As Amara stepped out of the car, she realized something profound. She didn’t care about Resi, or Ryan, or the office chaos. What mattered was him.
⸻
The following morning, Ethan’s mother arrived at the office, her elegance and authority immediately filling the room.
“Amara,” she said, eyes sharp, “I hear you’re… new here.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Amara replied politely, bowing slightly.
Ethan’s mother’s gaze lingered on her, assessing, calculating. “I hope you understand that my son belongs in a certain world… a certain class. I don’t want anyone distracting him from that.”
Amara swallowed, realizing the fight wasn’t over. Even with Ethan’s feelings clear, the world — and family expectations — would make things difficult.
But for the first time, Amara wasn’t afraid. She had seen Ethan’s heart. And nothing, not even his mother’s high expectations, could make her walk away from the man who had chosen to care for her.
