His Baby

Chapter Five

Rose heard the shouts of joy and protest form the kitchen, the football was only half way through and was still a chance for overtime too.

With her pizza in hand, Rose went to the office, Scott always left her laptop there if her brought it back.

She checked on the Mathews residence and it was clear. Taking her laptop upstairs Rose manages to change with a slice of pizza in her mouth and sat on her bed.

She couldn’t help but think about everyone back home, what were people saying about her.

Using her laptop, she hacks the social media. She deleted her old account because of her situation. Looking for a name form her old school she wanted to see what had happened since she left.

The profile loads and Rose sees nothing had changed; except they now think she’s was dead. And many people were commenting on how happy they were about it.

Tears formed in her eyes, even when she was no longer there, she was still targeted. Rose followed the profile of the girl who started the rumour of Rose’s death and hacked her computer. Stupid girl wasn’t smart about security.

There wasn’t much on her computer except a video in a file on its own, clicking the video Rose watched as the girl does her makeup touch-ups and then in her underwear walks to her bedroom door. Opening the door, she greets a guy who Rose also knew. The pair had a partner and each other weren’t them.

Thigs soon get heated and Rose cut the video before she saw too much. Revenge was on her mind and justice for their partners who didn’t know about the lie.

She posted the video on the girl’s media. Waiting until she was online, so it didn’t look suspicious. No one would be able to track it back to Rose anyway. She was using an encrypted proxy server.

Once uploaded, Rose left her account and erased any data that gathered whilst she was online and headed to bed.

Four months the Quinten security team had been protecting the Mathews family. It wasn’t the longest job they had, but it was close.

Today Mr Mathews was taking Tyler to the shooting range for some father and son bonding time, Scott and Rose were also invited for some time together at the invite of Mr Mathews of course.

They hadn’t spent a lot of time together with the job, so Mr Mathews wanted to give them some time together.

Rose had finished all her exams now and could focus on the job. She was yet to find out who was doing this.

Putting her gun in her safety belt she headed downstairs to eat with the guys before heading to eh Mathews house.

Mr Mathews and Tyler were already loading up the car when they arrived. The team left their posts, Ryan also stayed behind with the team since Rose and Scott were going with the men.

“Ready to go?” Mr Mathews asks Scott.

He nods his head.

“Ace is back so he will be joining us there, finally home” Mr Mathews says.

Scott chuckles, “Boys” he utters, and Mr Mathews nods his head in agreement.

Rose and Scott got back into their car and followed the Mathews to the shooting range.

It was out of town and in the middle of fields. Parking up Mr Mathews heads into the office to announce their arrival and then took everyone around the back into a room to set up.

Rose got straight too it when everyone had protective ear coverings she began to shoot. It was relaxing for Rose especially after exams

When she finished her round, Rose hit the button to the right to bring the target forward to look at. Every one of them were centre mass.

“Let’s look” Scott told his daughter. Rose turned around with a beaming grin which fell the moment she saw who had just walked in.

“Nathaniel?” she stutters out.

“s**t” was all he said.

The young pair stare at one another, neither of them blinking.

“You two know each other?” Scott asks with a quizzical look.

Rose nods, unable to find the words.

“We met briefly” Nathaniel, or well Ace said.

Scott nods his head.

Rose couldn’t focus for the rest of the day. She couldn’t believe it, she had slept with her employer’s son, of all people, how?

Ace kept looking over at Rose as she aimed for the target. Still making decent shots but not her usual success.

When lunch rolled around, the five finished at the range and began to walk to the cars.

Suddenly Rose felt dizzy and had to stop walking, her sight begin to blur, and spots clouded her vision “Dad” she barely spoke.

Scott turns around to his daughter and his face drops to scared as he watched his daughter collapse in front of him.

He rushes towards her, Ace on his tail.

The irritable sound of a repetitive beeping noise woke Rose, she was in a daze.

“Rose?” a deep voice who she recognised but knew it wasn’t her father spoke. She opened her eyes to see those icy blue ones from many months ago.

“Nathaniel” she mutters, “Or should I says Ace?” not really knowing what to call him.

Ace sighs, “Nathaniel is my birth name, Ace is a middle name I use most though”.

Rose huffs, “So why didn’t you tell me that instead?” she asks in a hoarse voice.

Ace stands up and gets her a glass of water, he held it to her lips for her to drink.

Rose moves to sit up and Ave helps, much to the reluctance of herself.

“Where’s my father?” she asks.

“Talking to the doctor” he replies instantly.

Rose sighs and closes her eyes for a moment, she needed to process all of this.

“About that night” she begins.

Ace shakes his head, “I shouldn’t have taken advantage of you like that”.

Rose laughs, “I think we both played a part in that don’t you think, I just hope your girlfriend doesn’t get upset when she finds out” guilty for what happened suddenly rushing over her.

Ace looks at her confused. “Victoria” she says to remind him.

“She isn’t my girlfriend, I slept with her once back in high school and that was it, she thinks were together, even though she sleeps with every guy she sees” he explained.

Rose nods her head and groans, “Why does my head hurt so much?”.

“You hit your head when you fell, but the doctors don’t think you have a concussion” Ace tells her.

Scott walks in with the other eight guys following behind. “You’re awake” he states with glee as he walks to her bedside and leaves a kiss on her forehead.

Everyone was smiling happy that she was okay.

“What did the doctor say?” she asks.

“You passed out due to low blood and sugar levels” Scott tells her.

Rose was confused, “How?” it made no sense, she exercised, ate well, and drank plenty of water.

She had questions and the doctor walked in just in time for her to ask them.

“Miss…” he looks down to his clipboard.

“Rose is fine” she tells him.

“I’m Dr Johnson, I have all your tests, everything is clear we gave you some glucose to bring up your sugar levels and rest will even out the blood pressure, and you and your baby will be good to go home”.

Rose smiles “Thank… wait what?” thinking she heard him wrong.

“You’re pregnant, about four months” the doctor creases his eyebrows in confusion “Did you not know?” he asks.

“Does this face look like someone who knew she was pregnant?” he chuckles nervously.

“In that case I need to order a few more tests and a sonogram” he quickly left leaving everyone in the room with their own thoughts.

Rose glances at Ace and saw him in shock “Ace” she says “You don’t have to deal with this” she says. Not caring if they guys heard her, Rose didn’t know what she was going to do, but she wasn’t going to force him to be involved if he didn’t want to be.

Ace shakes his head, reaching out he takes Rose’s hand “No, I’m going to help, this is my fault too” he said.

Scott stood there finally putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

Rose knew she didn’t want to be in Ace’s shoes when it does all click together and by the looks of things it was any minute.

 Scott’s face turns to anger, and he looks at Ace “When you said you met one another a few months ago, but you failed to mention you had s*x with my daughter” he yells.

Rose winces at the noise, her head was still hurting. Scott looked at his daughter with sadness and guilt.

He was going to have a go at Ace again, but Rose butted in “Dad, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for this to happen, I know your mad, but think of it this way, if all this happened and Ace wasn’t the guy I slept with and got pregnant, you would never know who the father was” trying to make light of the situation.

Scott sighs, his daughter was never irresponsible, it just so happened that one time ended up in a pregnancy “Okay, but I’m still not happy, you are seventeen Rose, you shouldn’t be a mother yet”.

Rose shrugs “It was going to happen at some point” she says.

The doctor came in with a nurse pulling a sonogram machine. “Could you guys leave so I can check on the baby” the nurse asks.

“It’s okay, they’re family” Rose informs her.

The nurse lifted Rose’s shirt and tucked paper into the top of her trousers. “This will be cold” squeezing the blue gel onto her stomach. Rose shivers at the contact.

Rose reached out and grabbed Ace’s hand out of nervousness. This was all happening so fast.

He looks at her and gives a squeeze of reassurance.

“Four months yes?” she questions Rose who nods her head in confirmation.

Turning the screen, the nurse points at the baby on the monitor “Most first-time mother’s will already have a small bump, but it’s okay if you don’t. Everything is good, baby is a healthy size for its age. In six weeks, we can tell you the s*x of the baby”.

Rose smiles “Can I have pictures?”.

The nurse nods her head and prints of many. Handing the photos to Rose she packs up and leaves.

Once they had prescribed her some medication to take for the pregnancy, she left the hospital, but not without arguing about leaving in a wheelchair. The obviously lost.

Ace helps Rose into the car “Are you going to tell your parents?” she asks him.

Ace sighs, “They are going to kill me when they find out why you collapsed, my dad wouldn’t stop talking about you and mum thinks you as her daughter she never had” Ace says.

Rose began to tear up, “Hey don’t cry” he says and wipes her tears away.

“Sorry, we can tell them together if you want?” Ace was shocked by the offer and nods his head.

“How about now?” and his eyes go wide, but he nods his head slowly.

Ace was yet to see his mother, so this was going to be a double surprise for her.

The ride was silent, Scott drove with Ace and Rose in the back, Mr Mathews and Tyler headed back, not wanting to crowd her in the hospital. But Rose wondered why they allowed Ace to stay.

Nerves kicked in as they pulled up to the house, they sat in the car longer than needed. Scott stepped out of the car giving the new parents to be a moment. He himself needed to time to process that he was going to be a grandfather. He wasn’t old enough for that.

When Rose nodded her head, she was ready, Ace helped her out of the car, more cautious than he needed to be.

“You don’t need to coddle me” she says nicely, not wanting to upset him.

“You fell over and hit your head, I’m just being careful” he replies.

Rose’s hand remained in his as they walked into the house. Lara hugged her son the moment she saw him.

“I missed you so much” she said and then turned to Rose and smiled. “Oh Sweetie, I hope everything is okay” she says and give a hug which Rose gives back.

“We have something to tell you” Ace begins.

Everyone takes a seat “Ace and I met before today” Rose said.

Lara, Tyler and Mr Mathews looked at them with curiosity, Tyler’s more of boredom than anything else.

“Four months ago when we first arrived, I went to a party…” she looks at her father and smiles sadly “I didn’t tell you this bit, but a drunk guy grabbed me and he tried to drag me upstairs”.

Scott inhales deeply.

“The bruises on my arm were form him, he gripped really tight and wouldn’t let go. I got to the bottom of the stairs and managed to get out of his grip, he didn’t like that and made a move to slap me, Ace stepped in and knocked the guy out. He took me to get some ice and then we went and played the Xbox for a while”.

Everyone nods following the story so far.

Then Ace opened his mouth “I slept with Rose”.

Lara and Mr Mathews have shocked faces. Tyler however rolled his eyes and chuckled, “You slept with her big deal, what did you go and get her pregnant” he jokes.

Ace looks at his little brother and Tyler’s eyes go wide “Oh my god” he drawls out.

Rose broke “I’m sorry, I didn’t know he was your son at the time, please don’t let this affect the contract please”.

Rose tried to gage their reaction, but they held blank looks for a while. Seconds tick by and there was no reaction.

“You’re pregnant” Lara says trying to process the information.

Rose nods.

“Four months?”

Again, Rose nods. She waited for the outrage, but it never came, instead floods of joy filled her face and squeal had the guys jumping with shock including her own husband.

“I’m going to be a grandmother” she cries out with joy. At least she thinks it’s joy.

A small smile appears on Rose’s face “Lara, are you okay?”.

Mr Mathews chuckles, “She’s fine, she is just excited to be a grandmother, and happy that she also gets a daughter too”.

Rose sighs in relief, her heart was already beating at a high speed.
