Chapter 5.1:Revulsion

900 Words
Dax POV I stopped at the end of the hall and watched as Riley scurried off, her bag held tightly against her chest, her dark black hair flowing down her shoulders. It was long. Pretty even. She’d been amusing to say the least, and different from the other girls who constantly threw themselves at me. She would be one to keep an eye on. There was something about her, though. Something in her eyes hinted at pain, the smile not quite reaching her eyes. Even her voice had been a little too cheerful, as though she was trying to hide something. I wondered what it was, even though it had nothing to do with me whatsoever. Since when did I care about somebody of the opposite s*x? There was a reason that I had a reputation for being untouchable. Usually, when a girl touched me, my first instinct was to shove them off me or yank my hand away. Not with her, though. That alone intrigued me. Whatever. I was running late, not that it bothered me. I sauntered over to History class, kicking the door open, unfazed that I was late. The teacher opened his mouth and then shut it when he saw me. One of the perks of being Alpha of the Crimson River Pack meant that none of the teachers dared to mess with me. I sat down on my chair, facing forward, my jaw clenching as Sofia Smith leaned over, batting her eyelashes at me. God, the smell of her perfume was enough to make me nauseated. Didn't she realize how pungent it was? How disgusting? She also looked more like a hooker with her midriff showing and her skirt pulled up to show her legs. It wasn't attractive in the slightest, not that she seemed to be aware of that. “Dax, you’re looking handsome today,” she flirted, fluttering her eyelashes at me and attempting to move even closer as I cringed. Christ, could she give it a rest? No matter how many times I hinted that I wasn’t interested in her in the least, she refused to give up. She was like a crazy stalker, but unfortunately, so were a lot of girls in this school. Most of them didn’t care about the real me. They only saw the Alpha side, the power I possessed, and their desperation to become my Luna. I’d made it clear I was waiting to find my mate, whom I would feel when I was eighteen, but it didn’t stop them from trying their luck. Sofia was the worst out of all of them. An annoying pest that came back no matter how many times you swatted them away. The girl had no self-awareness. Why couldn't she find some other poor guy to torment instead? Anybody. Hell, I would pay somebody to take her off my hands, but it appeared that the other boys in school had better taste when it came to choosing their girlfriends. She put a hand on my arm, and I yanked it back instantly. For a moment, she looked stunned and then regathered her composure. “So, Dax,” she purred, “not long until you turn eighteen, huh? I bet you have all sorts of plans for your birthday.” “Cut the small talk, Sofia,” I snapped, ignoring the teacher’s monotonous tone in the background, “I’ve told you before, I’m not taking a chosen mate.” Why would I want that instead of the fated mate blessed to me by the moon goddess? A chosen mate was a cheap substitute, and I wouldn't do it. I didn't condone those who did, but I was more patient than that. I knew I would find her. She looked flabbergasted. I sometimes wondered about the girl’s brain and whether she actually had one. “Why not? I’m the most popular girl in school, I’m well-connected, and I know the responsibilities of a Luna. You need somebody worthy on your arm,” she continued determinedly, “and I’m the type of girl that fits the bill. Besides, your parents don’t seem to mind me,” she pressed. Ha. As if that was going to be enough to persuade me. Our parents were good friends, so naturally, my parents welcomed her with open arms. So what? My parents were easily taken in by Sofia's smile and sweet demeanour. Shame they didn't see the real her, but eventually they would, and when that time came? Sofia would find herself out in the cold, where she belonged. “My parents have nothing to do with my decisions," I growled. She finally pulled back. My friend Aaron smirked. I was just holding on by a thread. Any longer and I would have lashed out, which wasn't good, because as an alpha, regardless of if I had my wolf, I could still cause a lot of damage. “Must be hard being the most popular guy in school that every girl within a mile radius wants to f**k,” he smirked. I shot him a look filled with daggers. His grin grew wider. I kicked his chair, which almost sent him toppling to the floor. I would have to kick it harder next time. “Aaron Mendez, pay attention,” the teacher barked. “Yes, sir,” Aaron said, shooting me a look. Shouldn't have teased me, fucker.
