Riley POV
"f**k that's good," I groaned, letting the hot water cascade over my body, standing under the spray until I resembled a giant prune.
I forced myself to turn off the water and step out, wrapping a towel around my waist, careful to avoid my ribs, which were just beginning to heal properly. The scars? Emotional damage? That would never go away. At night, I would wake up gasping for air, working my way out of a nightmare that felt so real that I could feel the pain, hear the sound of my cries, and even smell the disgusting mould in the air of the old boarding school.
I padded into the room, dressed, then sat on my bed and began drying my wet hair with my towel.
I felt fantastic. The hot water had definitely improved my mood. That or the 100 000 I had received. Either way, my spirits were definitely rising.
The door slowly creaked open. I halted, my eyes slowly rising to meet hers.
I knew the she b***h would visit me sometime. Shame it had to be today. I gritted my teeth as she walked in like she owned the place, kicking the door shut behind her.
"You're not meant to come near me," I muttered, feeling irritable.
I would throw her ass out, but she would just use that as an opportunity to wreak hell down on me. I silently implored Satan to take back his daughter, but my pleas went unanswered. Sigh.
"Actually, you're not meant to go near me, not the other way around," she corrected sweetly, her eyes scanning my room, her eyes narrowing in disgust.
"God, could your room be any more disgusting?" she said, wrinkling her nose.
"Sorry, Princess, not all of us live in the lap of luxury. If you don't like it, feel free to see your way out. Unfortunately, I don't have a doorman."
She stalked closer. I stood up and smoothly backed away from her. She smirked, enjoying my reaction.
"Do you know what I realized on my walk over here Riley?" she said in a matter of fact tone, tilting her head at me.
"That you're a crazy ass b***h only one step away from being a pure psycho?" I cracked.
"Wrong," she said smoothly, not even batting an eye. "I realized that there are no survelliance cameras in the Omega quarters."
"Not surprising. Nobody gives a s**t about the poor omegas in this pack. So long as you have everything catered to you, what's it matter about the people who serve you?" I said scornfully.
"You're a hoot," she laughed, "I guess six years in boarding school didn't humble you."
My lips twisted. "No, it taught me how to survive. How to thrive and what family really means to me. I doubt you would have found the experience as enlightening."
"Why did you have to come back?" she hissed, "why did you have to ruin everything again?"
"Because Grandfather gives more shits about me than you all do. You want money when he dies right? Well, this is the only way you're going to get it. Not that you deserve it," I snapped.
"Do you know how easy it would be to get rid of you again?" she warned, her eyes narrowing as I stilled, "I would barely have to lift a finger and you would be back to that academy before you could even blink."
"You mean resort back to your disgusting tricks Sofia?" I said sardonically, "it's astonishing you didn't die that night. I'm surprised you took such a huge risk to get rid of me."
"I wouldn't be so stupid. I took precautions. Besides," her eyes gleamed, "it worked didn't it? All they saw that day was you, standing over me, covered in blood, my body unconscious on the floor and a knife beside your feet and they drew their own conclusions," she smirked.
"You set me up. You made sure that they would draw those conclusions," I said quietly, "you spent months hurting yourself and claiming I did it so that they wouldn't think differently. You broke things and blamed me. You made it seem as though I was abusing you when the truth was that you were nothing but a little monster who was already plotting against me."
"It wasn't hard to set you up," she shrugged and her smile grew wider, "it was hardly my fault if our parents bought it."
"Oh they bought it alright," I gave a bitter laugh, "but you knew they wouldn't pry into the incident. They already hated me. Constantly compared me to you and found me lacking. Nothing I said was ever going to convince them otherwise."
"That's because you don't deserve to be in this family. You're nothing but an ugly little b***h who doesn't know her place. I'm the one who is going to be our parent's pride and joy. I'm the one who deserves all the attention and all the gifts they give me. When I'm older, they'll organize an arranged marriage and I'll be a powerful Luna while you're rotting away here."
"Have you ever considered therapy," I enquired sweetly, "I heard it's all the rage now. Although, you can't fix crazy," I added smirking.
She slapped me and just like that, the memory of that night came flooding back.
