Chapter 11.1: Secrets

900 Words
Riley POV I bring my attention back to Sofia, who is still smirking at me. She licks her fingers, eyeing me with amusement. I breathe deeply, keeping my temper, although I just want to smack her so hard she goes reeling into next week. She wants you to lose it, Riley. She's expecting you to hit her so she has something to use against you. Don't be stupid. "It would be so easy to make our parents angry at you. Although" she giggled, "they're already mad with you. Bianca's always been a little too bitchy for my liking, so I wasn't fazed when you humiliated her." "Let me guess, she's a rival to you becoming head cheerleader or something like that?" I drawled. "Wrong," she scowled, "she has her eyes on Dax, but he's mine. Which means you keep your grubby little hands off of him," she hissed, her eyes flashing. "Does this guy have a golden d**k or something?" I blurted out in exasperation, "I cannot fathom why so many females fling themselves at him. Sure, he's hot," I added as Sofia stared at me, "but that doesn't necessarily mean he's the brightest bulb in the shed. What if he's stupid?" I snorted. Sofia's mouth twitched. She looked shell-shocked. It took her almost a full minute to regain her composure. "Whatever," she said dismissively, "just stay away from him, Riley. I intend to become his mate and future Luna, and nobody is going to get in my way. I already have his parents' trust. It's just a matter of time until I convince them to betroth me to Dax." "So his parents are stupid then,, which doesn't leave much hope for him," I sighed with disappointment, "guess his good looks is all that he has. Shame," I said with sincerity. Ah well. You couldn't have it all. I would have to settle for admiring his body and maybe pray to the moon goddess for a mate that was not just brawn but had brains as well. "Are you serious?" Sofia asked incredulously, "Dax is the Alpha of his pack already. When he turns eighteen, he can legally take his mate. You're telling me you don't want that?" "Honestly," I shrugged, "I have no idea why you would think we had the same taste in boys. Anybody who falls for you is going to live a miserable existence and probably wish they had become a monk." "You b***h," she hissed and slapped me again. I caught her hand in mid-air and twisted it as her mouth opened in shock. "I let you hit me once, and that was already generous. Try it again, and I'll make sure you turn up to school tomorrow with a black eye and permanent scar on that face of yours." "You wouldn't dare," she gasped. "Wouldn't I?' I asked her darkly, "You have no idea what I'm capable of, Sofia. You haven't seen me for six years. I've changed," I sneered, "I'm not the same girl you used to bully whenever mum and dad weren't looking. I'm not just going to take your crap anymore. Go ahead, hurt yourself," I prompted, as she scowled at me, "that's what you came here for, isn't it? To injure yourself and then walk out so that the omegas could confirm you were here and that I must have hurt you?" God she was predictable. It was almost laughable. "You think you scare me?" she growled, "Nobody would refute me." She placed her nails on her upper arm, watching me closely. Before she could claw herself, I drew something out of my pocket. A pen. She scoffed at me. "What good is a pen?" she retorted. "Oh, it's useless for writing with," I shrugged, "but it has other uses. For instance," I clicked the top, and instantly Sofia's voice could be heard from the recording device. "It would be so easy to make our parents angry at you." "You recorded me?" she snarled, trying to move closer as I carefully pulled the pen away. "Naturally. Did you think I was just going to let you frame me again?" I asked slowly, as though she was stupid. "Give it to me," she shouted. "I've already downloaded it. Giving it to you wouldn't make a difference," I said coldly. "You think this will be enough evidence?" she asked, still eyeing me, "I'll just tell them that you manufactured it to try and cause friction between our parents and me." "Oh, trust me. I know you'll find some way of explaining it away. But if I were to show this to them after you conveniently reveal I injured you, they might just be smart enough to question it." I doubted it. Sofia could do no wrong. Still, she believed me, her expression filled with fear. "Fine," she snapped, "you won this round, but just you wait, Riley. I got rid of you once; I'll get rid of you again." "You can see your way out now," I said sweetly. She stormed out of the room and slammed the door shut. I chuckled and shook my head, placing the pen inside my backpack, even though I was sure it was going to go conveniently missing. No matter. I moved my bed and then lifted up some floorboards, carefully hiding my laptop beneath them before covering it over again. Secrets. We all had them.
