Chapter three

Winnie and Blake finally found a restaurant, “Burgers ’n fries”, and they walked into the restaurant, people were seated, some were eating, ordering  or taking theirs to go, “Finally” Blake exhaled, “there, that table by the window, let’s seat there” Winnie pointed and they went to seat by the window, A waitress, who looks like a teenager came to take their orders, “Good afternoon, welcome to burgers’ n fries, may I take your order” She smiled as her red colored lips parted slowly, “you guys have anything apart from burgers and fries?” Blake asked as he rested his hand on the table, “we have onion rings, milkshakes, spicy chicken wings and crisply fried chicken with melted cheese” she listed

“everything seems promising” Winnie shook her head, “for me, I will have a cheeseburger and a strawberry milkshake” Winnie ordered and the waitress wrote it down swiftly, “and for me, I will have the crispy chicken with melted cheese and fries” Blake said and licked his lips “your order will be here in 5 minutes, thank you” the waitress smiled and walked away. “she’s pretty” Winnie smiled as she watched the waitress walk away, “don’t tell me you have a crush on this one too” Blake rolled his eyes, “no I don…shit!, Natasha” Winnie stopped abruptly and quickly brought out her phone and dialed Natasha’s number

“hey this is Natasha, probably out somewhere so just leave a message” the voice said and it went straight to voicemail, “hey Natasha, I’m so sorry I haven’t called, we just settled in and I kind of just remembered, call me when you get this” she hung up and sighed, “let me guess she’ll get mad if you don’t call” Blake arched a brow and soon the waitress came back with their food, “your orders” the waitress dropped their food on the table, “thank you” Blake smiled and the waitress nodded and left.

“ I’m just tired” Winnie bit her cheeseburger, “of her?” Blake threw a fry in his mouth, “ hmmn..hmnn” she mumbled while chewing her food, she then took a sip from the milkshake, “Don’t get me wrong, I love Natasha but I’m not ready for the kind of commitment she wants from me, she’s like clingy and she expects much from me and it’s choking” she dabbed her lips with a napkin

“ why don’t you just talk to her about it” Blake asked as he nibbled on his chicken, “ the thing is her…” Blake interrupted, “mom?” he looked confused

“Not her mom” Winnie shook her head, “no like, look mom is here” Blake was focused on the entrance where their mom was standing before being accompanied by their dad, “what are they doing here?” Winnie asked, Jane pointed to their direction as she walked up to them with Henry behind her

“Hey kids, we knew we’d run into you here” she smiled as she sat beside Winnie, “how’d you know we are here?” Winnie looked at Henry, “well your father and I were hungry and since this is the nearest restaurant we decided to come here and since you kids said you went to grab lunch , we figured you couldn’t go so far” Jane explained and Winnie just focused her attention on her hamburger as a waitress came to the table to take their orders “I’ll have a double beef burger, one fry and a milkshake” Henry rested his back on the chair, “and I’ll have one large fry and a cheeseburger, thanks” Jane smiled and the waitress nodded and left

“isn’t this nice, we’re eating as a family, celebrating our new home” Jane nudged Winnie with her elbow, “we should probably hurry up and leave because we have school tomorrow” Winnie nudged her back, “oh , almost forgot, we’ll be quick”  Henry tossed one of Blake’s fries into his mouth.

  The waitress brought their orders and they ate, talked and had a quality family time. Evening started setting in; they finished eating and took a stroll back to the mansion.

 “Hey boy” Blake bent to pet Gary as he walked into the house, “you kids should take your suitcases upstairs, and arrange your clothes, I’ll handle the rest tomorrow, and your dad is dropping you off” Jane said as she hung her jacket on the coat rack, “okay mom” Winnie said and walked upstairs to her room, and Blake took Gary for a bath.

Winnie closed the door behind her as she walked into her room, she removed her boots and undressed, she turned on the lights as she walked into the bathroom and got in the bathtub.

“hmmn” she moaned as the cold water ran through her body, she dipped herself fully in the tub and came back up again, she ran her hands through her hair and just relaxed in the tub, she was deep in thoughts when she felt iced hands touch her shoulders and she opened her eyes and turned but nothing was there, she rested back in the tub and she felt a sharp cut on her back, “ow” she groaned and quickly got out of the bathtub and grabbed her robe, she walked back to the room and all her clothes were on the floor, the suitcase was opened and her room door was opened, she froze for a minute trying to understand what’s going on, she then walked out of her room and knocked on Blake’s room door

“I need to shower so make this quick” he said as he opened the door, “whatever you’re doing stop it” Winnie said, “huh?” Blake seemed confused. “I know you’re trying to scare me, it’s not cool so stop it!” she whispered angrily and walked back in her room leaving blake startled.

 She turned and everything was neatly arranged again, she then opened the door to look at Blake’s room door and closed it back.

“it’s okay, I’m just tired” she whispered to herself and bent to pick her boots and dropped them beside the couch, she turned off the lights and sat on her bed  as she turned on the bed lamp and slowly drifted off to sleep.

The clouds became dark, thunder struck and rain started to fall heavily, Jane got up from bed to check on the kids, she entered Winnie’s room and pulled the blanket up to Winnie’s neck and gently closed the door, she silently opened Blake’s room door and saw him fully covered and she closed the room door, she walked back downstairs and saw a manly figure standing by the passage,

“Henry?” she whispered but the figure just stood there, “Henry?” she started moving closer to the figure and she felt a hand touch her and she flinched, “what are you doing?” Henry whispered and Jane seemed confused, “I was..I was” she stammered as she kept looking at the passage, “it’s okay, let’s get back in bed” Henry held her waist as he aided her back into the room and closed the door gently.

Thunder struck again and the manly shadow could be seen standing by the passage.

The next morning, Winnie’s eyes were fluttering open and she saw a young pale girl standing by the window side, she closed her eyes and opened them again and she saw the girl standing beside her bed side, she rubbed her eyes and the girl’s eyes were all black with blood dropping from them, before she could scream the girl held her throat down and Winnie was choking silently, her room door opened and Blake saw Winnie struggling on the bed, he rushed to her and shook her, “Winnie!, Winnie!, wake up” He yelled and Winnie got up swiftly gasping for air, she turned to Blake and hugged him.

“That must be some nightmare you’re having” Blake said with a terrified look on his face, “No, it wasn’t a nightmare” she answered still breathing heavily, “This girl, she tried to choke me” She held her neck “who?” Blake asked, still kind of lost, “a scary looking girl, she tried to kill me” Winnie got up from bed, “she had these black eyes” she emphasized further, “um, okay, it was just a nightmare though” Blake got up, “I know what I saw, it was real, I was wide awake” she ran her hands through her hair, “were you?, look just get ready for school, Dad is almost ready” Blake opened the door and walked out

Winnie took a deep breath and walked to her mirror, she saw burn marks on her neck, “s**t” she cussed under her breath and entered the bathroom.

“Morning sweetie” Henry pecked Jane as she walked out of the room into the kitchen, “Morning” she said and sat on the stool by the counter, “sleep well?” he asked as he took a sip of his coffee from a white cup, “not really” she groaned and put her head down on the counter, “what were you doing standing by the passage yesterday?” he asked as he leaned on the counter and Jane looked up, “I went  to check on the kids and I saw this…” she was interrupted by Blake who was coming down the stairs, “morning mom, morning dad” he greeted and sat beside Jane, “morning sweetie” Jane answered, “morning to you too Gary” Blake laughed as he carried Gary who was sitting and staring at him, “morning Blake, are you ready?” Henry asked as he finished his coffee, “yeah dad” Blake replied as he kept playing with Gary, “and your sister?” Henry asked, “She I….” he was cut off by footsteps coming down the stairs, “Morning dad, Morning mom, can we go dad?” Winnie asked, she seemed to be in a hurry, “Honey are you okay?” Jane asked, “Winnie swallowed down hard and managed to fake a smile “yeah” she answered in a low tone and walked out.

“See you soon honey” Henry kissed Jane’s forehead, “bye mom” Blake put Gary down, “bye guys” she smiled and watched them closed the door.
