The night is cold and dark. It's been hours on the road. We've been talking and laughing and eating. A lot of eating. Pizza and doughnuts and yoghurt. This man was serious about spoiling me. I didn't think Jack would look at me the same after I told him the truth about Steve. But he's even sweeter and more compassionate. He told me not to blame myself. That the only person to blame in the situation was Steve. Something about the way he talked to me and rubbed my hand made me believe him. Made me feel less guilty. Made me laugh louder and eat more doughnuts and pizza. I can't remember the last time I laughed a loud genuine laugh like this.
