10 On their trek to The Trader’s Mansion, he filled her in on the story Marshall had offered as an excuse for being absent from his life. Tess listened without interruption. He knew she had questions, but their arrival at her hotel delayed further conversation. Sebastian stayed behind Tess as she approached the night clerk and asked for her key. In the slots behind him, the small man with black hair and eyes set too close together retrieved her key and slid it across the counter.
