Awake

1084 Words
I woke up, the hospital lights way too bright. The night before flooded back. I was in the pack hospital. Pack hospital. Was there a whole werewolf community? I sat up and looked at my arm. Bandaged again and sore, but not nearly as bad as the night before. It hit me. My favorite scent in the entire world. Coffee and vanilla. It was amazing. I sniffed the air. It was coming from this room. I looked to the corner armchair where I saw Micah sleeping. Only one word came to mind. Mate. Was it a real thing? I knew there was a lot to learn, but I knew about the mate bond. All I wanted was to be with him and only him. I saw him open his eyes. He came over to the bed. “How do you feel?” He asked, touching my arm. It tingled pleasantly when he touched me. “I feel fine. Confused about some things. Certain of one. You’re my mate.” I said, looking up at him. He smiled down at me. “Yes, you are my mate.” He said, kissing my forehead. More pleasant tingling. The doctor walked in. “Ah, you’re awake. Alpha.” He said, nodding to Micah. Alpha? Like the leader of the pack? “Alpha?” I whisper, looking up at him. I’m still confused. I only found out five months ago I’m a werewolf. “Yes, babe. But to you, I’m just Micah. I have to take care of some things. We’ll talk later.” He said, kissing my forehead again before leaving, taking his wonderful scent with him. “Now Charlie, you had some pretty bad silver poisoning. I was able to get it all out of your system, but you still need to rest for a while.” The doctor said writing on my chart, then leaving. I looked down at my arm and wondered if I was going to have a scar. I noticed the light in the hallway darken. I looked up and groaned. It was Amber. “To what do I owe this immense pleasure?” I asked sarcastically as she steps into the room. “Looks like you’ve gotten Micah to fuss over you. He’s not yours though.” Her hands were on my throat. I couldn’t breathe. I lifted my hands to hers, trying to get her off me, my vision blurring. “Stay away from him or I’ll do much worse to you.” She growls and I feel both arms break. I cry out in pain. This was going to take forever to heal. “Amber, what the hell are you doing in here?” I hear Cole shout. I saw him look at me and his face darkened. “What the hell did you do to her? Get out!” He shoves her out of the room as she glares at me. He comes over to me and gingerly touches my arms, looking like he was staring into space. I wince at his touch. “Let me get the doctor.” He gets up quickly, leaving me to look at my broken arms. The doctor comes in and carefully takes both of my arms, examining them. “They’ve already started to heal, but please don’t use them too much until they are completely healed.” He said, placing my left arm down on the bed. He looked like he wanted to say something else, but shook his head. “Beta.” He nods to Cole on his way out. What the hell was going on? His scent hit me before I saw him. “What happened Cole? You told me to come back.” Micah said, running into the room. He looks at my arms and growls. I shrink back a little, turning my head away. He sounded angry. “Charlie, are you okay? What happened?” He asked placing a hand on either side of my face, making me look at him. His hazel eyes were intoxicating and his touch made me feel calm. “Amber threatened me...” I whisper. Micah looked angry along with Cole. “What did she say to you, babe? You know you can trust me, right?” Micah says, rubbing my back, trying to soothe my worry. I didn’t know much about this world I’d stumbled into but something in me knew Micah and I were made to be together. I trusted him with my life. It felt weird to be so sure of something that I knew very little about. “I know. She threatened to kill me, I think.” I said shakily. My hands went up to my throat. It still felt warm from where she had choked me. I could feel the bruises starting to form. I tried to cover it with my blonde hair, but it was too late. Micah had seen the bruises and looked at Cole. “Did she choke you, Charlie? Why did she have access to the room?” Micah said, anger dripping from his voice. “I finally find a mate after a year of searching and Amber has the audacity to threaten her.” He growls under his breath, getting up to leave. “Keep an eye on her. I need to deal with Amber.” He growls, looking at Cole. Cole nods to him and leans against the door frame. “Micah’s been looking for me?” I ask timidly. I didn’t think I was a person people actively sought after. “Yeah, he became Alpha last year after his dad died. Normally we’re not allowed to find our mates until we turn 18, but extenuating circumstances call for… something not traditional.” He said softly looking me in the eyes. “Why me?” I asked, still confused. “Why does the Moon Goddess mate any of us together? I think there’s something only you can give to Micah and something only he can give to you. I know this world is strange and new to you, but please stay. Try to learn about who you really are.” Cole said, almost pleading. The pull to Micah was too strong, there was no way I’d be able to leave. “I’ll stay. I just don’t want to see Amber ever again.” I said, scowling. Cole smiled. “You’ll never have to see that b***h again.” He laughed. I cracked a smile, the first one in several hours.
