Chapter 2
Neveah's POV
“What!” I exclaimed in shock as my legs trembled weakly. My voice was so loud that it drew the attention of everyone in the house.
“What's happening here? Oh, Neveah, you are back. I didn't know you would be coming home so soon, I would have asked the driver to come get you.” Killian said, and I snorted.
“Since when did you start caring about me? That's by the way, why are my things being moved to another room?” I asked him with my hands on my chest.
“That's because Lucy will be living with us now, and she needs a bigger room. Your room is the biggest after mine, so you will be staying in the guest room from now henceforth.” Killian explained casually with a straight face as though he didn't just commit a grave crime against me.
“What did you just say now? That I will have to stay in the guest room just so Lucy can be in a bigger room. Well I'm sorry, but I won't be moving rooms. I'm your wife and the lady of this house.” I spoke and tried not to yell as I didn't want to stress my unborn child.
We have gone through so much today already, and I need right now to lay on my bed and rest, which is the reason why I came home.
“There's no way I'm moving out of my room for a stranger. If she wants, she can stay in the guest room if she wants. But there's no way I'm staying there!” I yelled, and before I could say any other thing, Killian marched towards me and slapped me hard across the face.
I staggered and almost fell on the staircase. I looked up at Killian with shock written all over my face as I held my swollen cheek in my palm.
Tears threatened to fall down my eyes, but I quickly sniffed it back. My fist clenched into a ball, and I stood there, anger ravaging my being.
“How could you…” I paused my words as tears choked me in the throat. I remember giving so much of myself to this marriage.
I forfeited my life and identity because I was so in love with Killian. I wanted to build a life and a family with him. Even though I was warned, I damned the consequences and refused to listen.
Now, after so many years of love and sacrifice. Killian and my son decided to treat me in such a cruel and ungrateful manner. I looked up at Killian, who was looking down at me with so much hatred and contempt in his eyes.
“How dare you talk back to me in my own house. I have made the decision, and there's nothing you can do about it.” Killian yelled at me.
“You are going to be in the guest room from now henceforth. You should be grateful you were welcome back to this house with how badly you behaved at the hospital earlier today.” Killian said, and I stood there frozen and silent, staring into the air in a daze.
“Fine! Guest room it is.” I gritted in between my teeth with my lips pressed together, and my eyes squinted.
I arrived at the guest room and waited till the maids brought in all my things before locking the door behind me. Obviously, they have moved a lot of things before my arrival.
The tears I have been trying so hard came pouring down my cheek. I never in my wildest dreams thought things would come to this. All I wanted was to be happy with my family.
I rubbed my belly, feeling extreme sadness overwhelmed me. Since things have turned out this way, I can not bring myself to keep this baby. I no longer care what Killian and Nathan decide to do with Lucy from now on.
Tonight, Killian proved to me that I meant nothing to him. He never actually loved him, and I was only a replacement for his first love. He married me to fill the void of her absence. And now that she has returned, he no longer needs me and would be willing to dispose of me at any time.
I heaved a deep sigh and quickly placed a call to the hospital.
“Good evening, please. I would love to book an appointment with the hospital. I want to have an abortion.” I stated, and the nurse muffled some words over the phone, giving me instructions on what to do and how to go about it.
“Alright thanks, I will be there tomorrow morning.” I replied and ended the call.
The next morning, I dressed up and headed downstairs to go to the hospital. Immediately, I stepped into the dining hall.
The first person I encountered was Lucy. I had seen her from the hallway, which was what prompted me to come over and have a look. However, I saw Nathan sitting on a chair, stuffing his face with junk food.
I gasped, “Why is he eating this much sugar?!” I raised my voice in shock. Nathan had high blood sugar as a child so I was careful with everything he ate. Even junk food has its limits.
“There's nothing wrong with this. Why make a fuss? It's just food.” Lucy said and made sure to appear pitiful why she spoke. If I was a stranger who didn't know her too well. I would have thought she was being wrongly accused over something.
“Well for your information, my son can't eat such things. Sugar and junk food are bad for his health.” I retorted.
“Mom, stop making such a big deal over things like this. It's just food, and I'm going to eat it. I dislike you so much and prefer Lucy over you. I love Lucy because she allows me to eat anything I want.” Nathan said, and tears trickled down my face.
As much as I didn't want to care about Killian. I can't do the same for my son. He's my blood, and his words hurt me so much. I ran back to the guest room in tears, feeling so shattered by the words Nathan said to me.
I heard a knock on the door, and I was shocked as to who it might be early in the morning. It had been two days since my encounter with Lucy and Nathan, and I still could not bring myself to leave the room.
The maids had been bringing my food to me. At least someone cared enough not to let me starve to death. I opened the door, and to my greatest surprise, Killian was standing by the door with a smile on his face.
“Neveah.” He called my name sweetly and walked into the room. I closed the door behind me and stared at him in shock.
“I know you must be surprised, but I just want to apologise for everything that has happened recently. I'm so sorry for the way Nathan and I behaved towards you. It all happened in the spur of the moment, and there was so much pressure going on.” Killian said, and I felt my resolve crumble.
“Today is your birthday, and if it's okay with you. I would like for the three of us to go out this evening as a family of three and have dinner.” Killian said, and my heart melted.
He even remembered my birthday, which means he cares about me, and he's truly sorry. I smiled back at him with a nod.
“Sure, let's do that.” I said to him, and he pulled me into a hug. My eyes flickered with excitement as we embraced each other. Finally, it was night, and I was so excited. I looked in the mirror once more, making sure I looked perfect.
I put a call through to the hospital before leaving the room.
“I'm sorry, but I would like to cancel my appointment scheduled for tomorrow. I don't want to abort the baby anymore.” I said and ended the call.
I walked downstairs where my son and husband were waiting. Killian helped me into the car, and we drove off. Immediately we arrived and walked into the restaurant, Killian's phone began to ring.
“What! I'm coming right away.” I heard him say, and my brows furrowed in anger.
“Nathan, Lucy just called. She said she's having a stomach upset and that it hurts so badly, we have to take her to the hospital.” Killian said, and I rolled my eyes.
“I'm coming with you, dad.” Nathan said, and they both turned to leave.
“Why are you both leaving? Can't you see this is another scheme of Lucy. She doesn't want us to spend time together.” I said, but my words seemed to fall on deaf ears.
I pulled Killian and Nathan, but they both pushed me and ran out of the restaurant.
I fell, hitting my body mercilessly on the floor.
