Chapter 1

Neveah's POV Blood trailed down my face as I struggled to keep breathing. The smell of medicine enveloped me, making my stomach churn. I laid there on the bed, and my breath hitched in my throat, waiting for anyone who cares enough to at least check up on me. I curled up on the tiny bed in pain. I rubbed my throbbing head as the noise coming from other patients made me panic. “Be quick about this doctor. There's no time to waste here. Lucy might lose her life if you continue to waste more time like this.” I heard Killian's distressed voice and turned to look at him. He was marching towards me with a doctor and a nurse, and he looked really angry and stressed. “We need the patient's consent before we can draw blood from her. She needs to be willing to give blood, and we also need to stop the bleeding on her forehead.” The doctor was starting to speak, but Killian glared at him. “I am paying you, and you are going to do exactly what I want and say. Lucy was involved in an accident, and she needs blood urgently. If we wait until we get blood from the blood bank, she might have serious complications.” Killian explained to the doctor. “I'm sure Neveah wouldn't mind. So go ahead and draw blood from her.” Killian's words echoed in my head, and I froze hearing what my husband had just said. The nurse who accompanied them and accompanied them both came close to me. She took my hands, but I snatched my hand away from hers. “Don't touch me…” I said to the nurse and grabbed my hand away from hers. I looked up at Killian, who looked shocked. I managed to sit up on the bed, and the nurse supported me. “What's wrong with you, Neveah? Why are you being so childish? Allow the nurse to draw some blood. It's just a little blood and won't hurt that much.” Killian complained. I opened my mouth to say something, but Mr and Mrs Crane went into the ward. They are Killian's parents and were in the other car that followed ours. “Mom, you should not have left Lucy alone there.” Killian complained. “There's no need to worry, son. She's in the presidential ward, and they will take good care of her.” Mrs Crane said, and my eyes widened with shock. “Killian, what's causing the delay? Lucy is starting to lose her breath. The doctor who attended to her asked that the blood be brought right this minute. We don't know how long she can hold on for.” Mrs Crane said, and Killian slammed his hand on the tiny bed I was laid on. “Well, Neveah has refused to cooperate and give blood to Lucy.” Killian said, and I clamped my palm on the bed, anger running through my veins. “Come on, Neveah, don't be such a child. You know how important Lucy is to Killian. She's his first love, and they both cherish each other. If you love my son so much as you claim, then what we are asking is nothing.” Mrs Crane said, and I chuckled. “Was that the reason why you had her in a presidential ward and kept me here in a shared ward on this tiny bed?” I asked them, my eyes laced with tears. “Is this what this all is about? Lucy was involved in an accident. There was no time to debate about rooms.” Killian yelled at me. “And have you forgotten that I was involved in the same accident? That is the reason why I'm on a hospital bed as well. I have bruises and blood everywhere. I have anaemia, and on top of that, I am pregnant with your own child.” I broke down in tears as I spoke. “Your pregnant wife was in an accident, and the only thing you care about is your first love getting blood. You would pick her over your wife and unborn child, and you don't mind if that blood comes from your sick wife with anaemia….” I choked on my words as tears clogged my throat. “You don't care if I die as long as Lucy is safe, right?” I asked him, and he stared down at me dumbfounded. “Stop making a fuss about this. There's nothing wrong with a pregnant woman giving blood as long as you have enough blood in your body.” Mr Crane said. “You know you are such an ingrate, the only reason why you married my son is because Lucy travelled abroad. My son married you before she returned.” She began to say reminding me of how I'm nothing without her son. “That's the reason why you were able to become the wife of the CEO of a prestigious company. You should be grateful to Lucy and give her your blood right away.” Mrs Crane said, and I couldn't help but scoff. “If I were you, I would crawl up to Lucy and serve her all my life.” Mrs Crane added. “You are just too wicked and vile. Despite knowing Lucy is my first love. She's such a weak and fragile person, yet you are hesitating in giving her blood. “And so what if she's your first love? You need to tell me now who your wife is, Lucy or I. And besides Killian, I'm pregnant. Why won't any of you understand that?” I asked. “Mom… why won't you give Lucy some blood. I thought you were a kind person, now I've just realised how bitter you are.” I heard my son Nathan's voice from the door, and my eyes widened with shock. “Son…” My words hung in the air as he shunned me and continued speaking. “I really wish Lucy was my mother instead. She's a better fit, and we would make a lovely family. You are too selfish, unlike Lucy, that’s why I love her more.” Nathan said, and I gasped in shock. Tears trickled down my eyes. I didn't know how to feel about what I had just heard. Even my son Nathan has joined them to hate and speak ill of me. “Even your son knows the kind of person you are.” Mrs Crane said. “Fine…” I gritted in between my teeth with my fist clenched into a tight ball, and my breath heavy and hot. “Good! She finally agreed to do it.” Killian said, and the nurse came forward. She drew the blood, and immediately, they saw the pint of blood full. They all ran out of the ward along with the doctor, leaving me with the nurse to treat my wound. “Killian…” My voice trailed off weakly, but no one replied or even spared me a glance. I tried to stand up but felt dizzy all of a sudden. I tried again, and before I could take another breath, I was already on the floor. I opened my eyes and felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. I hissed in pain and curled up on the bed, shivering as beads of sweat formed on my forehead. “Nurse..” I called as I saw one of the nurses pass through the open ward I was placed in. “Ma’am.’ She answered me. “Where are my husband and son?” I asked her. “They all left, Ma'am, please excuse me.” She said to me and walked away, leaving me in deep shock. “What!” I felt my heart sink deep into my stomach, knowing they all left me here without giving any thought as to what happens to me, even after donating blood to Lucy. I heaved a deep sigh and wiped the tears that have found way down to my cheek. I stood up and walked out of the hospital bed. I feel a little bit better and need to lay on my bed at the mansion. I arrived at the mansion and alighted from the taxi. I walked into the mansion and entered the main house. To my surprise, my things were being moved from my room to somewhere. It was the first sight that greeted me as I returned home. “What's happening here?” I asked weakly. “Mr Killian had asked that we take your things elsewhere. Miss Lucy will be living here and using your room from now henceforth.” The maid explained to me.
