^CHARLOTTE I was stunned by the room around me. It was a bedroom. His powerful scent was everywhere, confirming this was his space. The walls and floor were stone, and the ceiling was domed. One wall boasted a huge, unlit stone fireplace, flanked by a couple of chairs – one looked worn and well-used, the other brand new. Across from us was a massive window and a glass door that led out to a balcony. I could just make out a small table with a couple of chairs outside. Rain pounded steadily against the windows, a strong wind pushing forcefully against them. There were deep red curtains, but they were pulled wide open and covered in dust, making me think they usually stayed that way. Opposite the fireplace was a king-sized four-poster wooden bed.
