In reply to Dan, Rozie said: “I see that now, her heart heavy with regret. “I should have recognized your worth then, and I’m sorry for how I treated you.”
“Apology accepted,” he said with a soft smile. “People grow, and it’s important to learn from our mistakes.”
As ROZIE left the building, she felt a mix of hope and uncertainty. The interview had gone better than expected, but the emotional weight of her past lingered in her mind. Later that day, she received a call from DAN’s assistant. “Congratulations, ROZIE! You’ve been offered the position.”
Tears of joy filled her eyes as she listened to the details. “Thank you so much!” she exclaimed, her heart swelling with gratitude.
The following weeks were a whirlwind of activity as ROZIE settled into her new role. DAN was supportive, offering guidance and encouragement as she navigated the complexities of her job. But just as everything seemed perfect, ROZIE was faced with a harsh reality. One afternoon, she received a call from her mother. “ROZIE, your father is sick. He needs immediate medical attention,” her mother’s voice trembled with worry.
Panic surged through her as she raced to the hospital, fear clawing at her heart. The memories of her father’s decline haunted her. She had witnessed the struggle of their family too closely, and the thought of losing him was unbearable.
When she arrived at the hospital, she found her father in a fragile state, the weight of his past misfortunes etched on his face. “ROZIE,” he rasped, his eyes filled with pain. “I’m sorry for what I put you through.”
“Don’t talk like that, Dad. You’re going to get better,” she said, holding his hand tightly, trying to be the pillar of strength he had always been for her.
As the days turned into a blur of hospital visits and sleepless nights, ROZIE struggled to keep her professional and personal life separate. DAN was a constant source of support, always checking in and offering his assistance. “You don’t have to do this alone, ROZIE,” he urged one night, his eyes filled with concern. “Let me help.”
“I can’t drag you into this mess. You have your own life to focus on,” she replied, her voice cracking.
“ROZIE, you’re not dragging me into anything. I want to be there for you. Let me help you carry this burden,” he insisted.
It was then that ROZIE realized the depth of DAN’s love for her. He had grown to become not just a partner but a steadfast friend. “I don’t deserve you,” she whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Yes, you do,” he said, wiping her tears away. “You’ve shown me that love isn’t just about the good times; it’s also about being there for each other when things get tough.”
