Chapter 4

Maggie “Oh Goddess Maggie… you didn’t. Please tell me you are lying and you didn’t honestly tell Alpha Dominic that you deserved better than him!” Rayna was having an absolute fit. I was sitting on my bed in my favorite sweatpants, my knees pulled up under my chin. After being completely humiliated in the Alpha’s office, I ran back into the ballroom to find Rayna. I told her I was leaving and got home as fast as I could, with Rayna struggling to keep up and questioning me the entire way. I stripped my dress off as soon as I got into my room and threw it in a ball into my closet, grabbing my old grey sweats and a black tank top. Rayna stood in my doorway the entire time, waiting for an explanation. I finally settled onto my bed and filled her in on what had happened. “Yes Rayna, I did. He acted like I was beneath him,” I reminded her. “So yes. I said it. And I meant it. I honestly haven’t expected to find my mate so excuse me for thinking that when I did he would be a little bit more excited to meet me.” I sighed. I couldn’t decide if I was angry or hurt by Alpha Dominic’s reaction to learning that we were mates. “What does Echo think about all of this?” Rayna asked. I glanced at her and quickly looked away. “I didn’t want to hear her lecture me so I’ve kinda blocked her out,” I admitted sheepishly. Rayna rolled her eyes at me. ‘Echo? I’m sorry. I just didn’t know how to react,” I tried. ‘I know you must be disappointed in how our mate reacted. Please talk to me.’ I was not expecting the reply I got. ‘Oh Mags! He’s perfect!’ Say what now?? ‘Sure he’s a little grumpy at the moment but he has to act that way. He will warm up to you. He already is. And Gemini… my Gemmy is wonderful! He always has been a sweet wolfie and now he is ours!’ I didn’t even bother responding to Echo. “Well apparently Echo and I were not in the same room when all this went down,” I relayed to Rayna what Echo had said about the Alpha and his wolf. She laughed and shook her head. “Well our wolves do always know what’s going on better than we do.” We sat in silence for a moment before Rayna perked up. “Get dressed. Something sexy. We are going out!” ~*~*~*~*~ The next morning I woke up with a terrible headache and in a funk. Rayna and I had gone out drinking and dancing and it had been awful. The stupid mate bond was already messing with me. I had felt guilty about every single guy I tried to dance with. I wound up sitting at the bar drinking alone while Rayna danced the night away. I knew eventually I would have to face Alpha Dominic again so that we could reject each other and move on. I decided that I would march right into his office and demand he reject me. If he hadn’t been an Alpha I’d have done it last night. Unfortunately, being an Alpha, I was unable to do so and had to wait for him to reject me first. ‘He won’t reject you Mags,’ Echo said. ‘Have patience. The Moon Goddess doesn’t make mistakes. You will see. Gemini is pleased with our match, as am I.’ I rolled my eyes and headed to the kitchen. I found a note on the table from Rayna telling me that she was at work but to be ready to go out again tonight. I hoped I could talk her into staying home. Our nights out wouldn’t be much fun if I felt like I was cheating on a man who didn’t even want me. I grabbed some cereal and a can of pop before settling in on the couch with a horror movie. I had almost fallen asleep when the sound of knocking jerked me back awake. I shuffled to the door and opened it, annoyed. My eyes widened when I saw Alpha Dominic standing on my porch. “Hello my little mate.”
