CHAPTER 9
Colby took the trail Councilman Eagan had told him about, and hoped that he remembered the directions to the safe place correctly.
Ian grunted as he climbed, "Are you sure we're going the right way?"
Colby was trying to draw in a breath as he said, "Yes, I just wish we could shift. It would be easier to get there."
"Uh..." Ian grunted again as he made his way over another boulder, stopping and leaning forward with his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath.
Colby stopped as he pushed on Mary's tush once more, to push her up so she would stop choking him as she held on with her knees wrapped around his waist and hands clasped around his throat.
Panting heavily, Ian said, "It's...It's not dark enough...the men...might see us."
