When Damien finally made it back to his Villa, it was already quite late in the evening. On the one hand, he is bewildered, and on the other, he is heartbroken. He was unprepared for things to go off without a hitch and finish successfully. The sequence of events moved at such a breakneck pace that he was unable to keep up. The procedure was finished without either of them inflicting any harm on the other, and it took place in the space of a single blink of an eye. He brings back Maximo's documents, he gets Paige's cheque, and he finally understands the true reason why Vanessa was killed.
Now, for the first first time, he had the impression that all of his efforts were for naught. He lamented over nothing in particular. Vanessa doesn't deserve his love at all.
