My eyes were shut tightly, not wanting to admit to the scene I was in. I could feel the cold, hard ice beneath my back but I myself wasn’t cold. Something warm and wet trickled towards me, slowly soaking my arm. I tried to ignore it but the screams were too much. My eyes forced open to watch the scene around me. My pack was freezing and fighting for their lives against the rogues, and I was stuck, unable to move. Chained down and forced to watch as they died in front of me. A man towered over me, grey haired and weather worn. He taunted me a little, telling me it was my fault, forcing me to watch as they killed Rachael, then James, and then Andrew. Finally, it was my turn. He lifted the knife above me and-
“Freya! Are you alright?” Rachael stood above me, shaking my shoulders to bring me out of the dream, the nightmare. I sat up, rubbing my face.
“I- Just a nightmare, I must have eaten something funny last night.” I gave her a weak smile, attempting to reassure her.
“If you say so, but you might want to get up. It’s your first day back today and I brought you pancakes!” She points to a plate of pancakes on my desk, the sight of it made my stomach rumble.
“Oh Rachael have I ever told you that you’re the best?” I practically jumped out of the bed and ran to the desk. The plate of pancakes and syrup smelt divine. Rachael simply laughed,
“If you say so Luna, I’ll leave you to get ready now. James will be downstairs to take you to class in half an hour.” She heads to the door as she speaks, stopping when she gets there to give me one last smile.
“Thank you Rachael, I hope you have a nice day!”
“You too Luna.” She laughs a little before heading out, and it wasn’t too long after that that I finished devouring the pancakes.
After a quick shower, I donned some jeans, a button-up blouse and some flats. Simple but smart enough. I had packed my backpack the previous night so thankfully I could just grab it and go in the morning, it was an old habit that worked really well in ensuring I rarely forgot something.
James dropped me off a little down the road from class, and much to my surprise one of his lackeys got out of the car with me. I paused and looked at James, raising an eyebrow.
“Protection, we can’t be too safe with the rogues going about just now.”
“But how do you plan on getting him into a secure hospital and university?” James motion to the guy behind me, he seemed to be about my age. He was tall, with short blonde hair and a bag on his back. He waved a student badge.
“Meet Timothy, he’s transferring in from a different medical school today. He’s in all of your classes.”
Of course. I nod and give James a wave. “I’ll make sure he doesn’t get lost then, see you James.” He nods and drives off, leaving Timothy and I to head in.
Once we entered the foyer of the school I was immediately tackled into a hug.
“Freya! We’ve been so worried! You’ve been gone for a week and we’ve heard absolutely nothing other than you’d found your mate in another pack and ohmygod who is this guy? Are you hurt? Are they treating you alright?”
The slew of questions gave me time to react to the hug.
“Willow, I’m fine. I promise I’m fine. This is Timothy, he’s… he’s part of my new pack.”
She pushes me back, holding onto my shoulders to check me over.
“You better be, Moon Goddess knows I’d never forgive anyone that hurt you. Timothy you say? Is he like, a body guard or what,” She eyes up Timothy, finally letting go of my shoulders, “I’m Willow, this is Henry and if you ever hurt Frey I will rip your balls clean off.”
Timothy gives her a smile, extending a hand to shake hers.
“Why would I hurt our Lu-” he stops after seeing my glare, “luuuuuuuuvely new pack member.” Willow gasps, and for a moment my heart stops. I didn’t want everyone to know my new status, and there were far too many people around here.
“Freya! Is this your new mate?”
“No! No no, just one of his friends.”
“Hmm… Well, class is starting in five, let's find a good seat.” Willow links arms with me, leading me into the auditorium. She plonks us down in a row of seats, me, her, Henry and then Timothy.
The day consisted of four, one hour classes, lunch, and then three hours of practical classes. Willow spent most of it asking me questions.
“What is your mate's name?”
“Andrew.”
“How old is he?”
“Twenty-four.”
“Has he marked you yet?”
“Willow!”
“I’m sorry I’m curious! I’ll take that as a no though,” I groaned quietly, rubbing the end of my pen against my temple. “Does he treat you right?”
“Of course he does Willow, he’s my mate.” I wasn’t wrong, he did treat me right, just not like a mate.
The end of the day came quickly, and I was led back out to James’ car by Timothy. Willow and Henry waved us off and shouted to keep in touch.
“How was your first day back Luna?” James asked, looking to me through the rear view mirror.
“It was good, it made it clear I’d missed a lot, but I’ll be able to catch up. It was nice seeing everyone again at least.”
“And Timothy? Does it meet your expectations?”
“It was more practical than my last style of teaching, I don’t have as much experience with patients as I feel I should. Luna, perhaps I could ask you to help me practice that practical aspect?” He turns to face me, as much as possible.
“Ah, I suppose. But I can’t promise I’ll be any good myself.”
“We can always learn together as we go. Perhaps James could be our practice dummy.”
James shudders at this.
“As long as you promise not to remove anything!” We all laughed at this, and spent the rest of the drive discussing various practical techniques.
When we arrived back at the pack house there were people hanging banners and decorations in the orchard and the paths leading there. Rachael met us at the door.
“Luna! What do you think of these? We’re choosing what to have at your ceremony.” She linked arms with me, leading me down the path.
“Ah, well I like the pale blue and silver ones, they’re subtle and classy.” I point to the corresponding ribbons.
“I thought you would, I told them the red and gold was too extravagant.” I chuckle a little at this.
“Perfect, can I leave the rest to you then? I’ll go put my bag away.”
“Of course Luna. I’ll be here if you need me.” I nod and head inside and up to my room.
I head inside and head for my desk, but I barely make it a few steps before I’m grabbed and lifted, my back hitting the wall next to the door. My mates lips fall on mine in a fiery kiss. “Freya,” He breathes, “I hope classes went well.”
I barely manage a nod, my hands finding holds on his shoulders as my legs wrap around his waist.
“I haven’t been able to focus since the other night, I need you.” He gasps this out, his hands grasping my ass firmly. His lips travelling down my neck, licking and sucking.
“Then take me, what’s stopping you?” I whisper into his ear. He growled and moved to throw me on the bed. My shirt and his were quickly discarded, our jeans following soon after. The heat coming off both of our bodies was intense, and Isolde was practically singing in my head. I cup my hand to Andrew's cheek, his eyes swirling with black. His fingers circled between my legs, before pulling my underwear away. I gasp a little as one of his fingers enters me, his lips land on the crook of my neck, my mark spot.
“We should wait,” he mumbles into my neck, “until after the ceremony. But you make it so hard.” He nibbled my neck, extracting gasps and moans from me, and a second finger joined the first.
“If that’s what you want my love,” As much as I didn’t want this to stop, it was important that we didn’t rush. I pushed him away gently, but firmly, “If you want to wait, we wait.”
He grumbled, but sat up and offered me my shirt, which I took.
“Then we wait.”
