“Freya Miln, please, take a seat.” The Alpha sat behind the desk, he was a thirty year old man with dark hair and a smile that could put even the most nervous person at ease. I took a seat in the chair opposite him with my father next to me. “You may have a vague idea of why I wanted to talk to you?” I nod.
“Because I have yet to find my mate.”
“Correct, it worries me that you don’t feel the need to seek him out. People tell me that it’s because you want fate to take a hand?” I nod at this, confirming his story. “Yes, I thought as much. Well I want to help you, that is why I am assigning you to be my Beta’s secretary until you find him. Of course your medical course will take full precedence, we are always looking for more doctors, so you will attend classes in the morning as usual and spend your afternoons and evenings working with George, understood?”
I sit for a moment before nodding. George's secretary, Moon Goddess, help me. I turn to look at George who was standing in the corner of the room. He grinned at me and I felt myself involuntarily groan.
“Is there a problem?” My father asks, raising an eyebrow.
“No! Sorry, I just didn’t expect this, at all really. Thank you for this opportunity Alpha. I will do my best.”
“I hope you find him Freya. I had hoped he would be within our pack, but that is looking unlikely. George is to attend a meeting tomorrow with the River Valley Pack, you are to go with him. Make sure you look presentable,” The Alpha puts one hand on the desk and motions to the door with his other hand, “You are dismissed.” My father helps me stand and we head out of the door, thanking him as we go.
Once we were out of the room I let out a small laugh, me, a secretary.
“I’m sorry dear, I have work to do, training the young pups. We can catch up at dinner.” He pulls me into another hug before heading off, leaving me standing in the Alpha’s corridor. The Alpha and Luna take up half of the top floor of the pack house, with the old Alpha and Luna in the other half. Our pack put a lot of emphasis on respecting and caring for the elders of the pack, hence the sharing of the top floor. The current Alpha however is still the top of command, along with his Luna. Our Alpha, Alexander and his Luna Rachael were well respected for their kind but strict natures within the Wolf world. It was these very natures that gave them unwavering respect and loyalty from their pack. If Alpha Alexander believed this was the best thing for me, I would believe him.
With new resolve I set off for home. My father and I stayed in a small house a short walk from the pack house. It was on pack land and it meant we had some privacy from the others. It was just us in the house, my mother had died a few years prior after a pack of rogues attacked. She gave up her life to save the pack cubs who had been hidden away.
I sat at my desk and stared at my pile of textbooks. Tomorrow the hidden hunt for my mate will begin. I was to look presentable… but what did he mean by that? I suppose if I am to be going as the Beta’s secretary I should dress smart. Smart I can do.
I stand and go to my wardrobe, looking out a sheer blouse that is tied at the neck with a black velvet bow and a pencil skirt. Pair it with a pair of black heels and I was set.
The next day, after classes I was bundled back into the car with George as we set off for the River Valley Pack lands. I clutched my notebook tight as we drove, unsure of what to expect from this meeting.
We climbed the stairs of the pack house to the meeting room and I cursed my decision to wear heels and held onto George for support, but when we reached the top I let go. We mustn’t make people misunderstand, I was not his mate. We were ushered into the meeting room, George took a seat and I stood behind him.
The meeting was long, and dull. For the most part I daydreamed, taking a note here and there when George signalled me to.
After the meeting a man approached us. He introduced himself as James, the Beta of the Ice Moon pack.
“I am sorry to disturb, but I couldn’t help but notice your… friend here taking notes. I’m afraid I did not have such sense. Perhaps I could trouble you for a copy?” George turns to me, prompting me to answer.
“Ah, of course, I can write them out properly and have them delivered to you?” James nods at this, giving us both a smile.
“Then I suggest you bring them yourself, our Alpha respects those that are organised. He would enjoy meeting you I think. How about I collect you both tomorrow, if that is enough time?”
“Ah, yes. That should be sufficient.” George cuts in after me,
“However it will have to be the afternoon, Freya here is studying to be a doctor.” He says all this with a grin, but I simply blush.
“He will definitely appreciate that, then it is set. Tomorrow at one o’clock. I will see you two then.” He nods his head and sets off. George simply gives me a grin before taking us both home, going on and on about points brought up in the meeting. I, however, simply let my thoughts wander to what tomorrow would bring.
