My heart sank. What just happened?
George led me to a seat and Andrew read through the notes. He was the silent leader after all, his face was devoid of any emotion as he concentrated on the papers before him. After several minutes he put them down.
“Those are clear and comprehensive, I commend you. You two may wait downstairs until our pack meeting is over.” He waved a hand and sat back in his chair.
The journey downstairs was a blur, my moment of joy was over. How could he switch just like that from passion to work?
George and I sat at one of the tables in the lounge and we were brought tea. I sat in silence, half listening to George gush about the luxurious nature of the pack house and how he could incorporate some of the ideas into ours.
My mind started to wander, would he pretend like none of that happened just now? Would he accept me as his mate or would he reject me? I had no idea what was going through his head. But… I had found my mate, perhaps we would grow old together and have many pups. I would be Luna, he would be Alpha. Luna of the Ice Moon pack… that’s no small task.
I was startled out of my thoughts when James came down, “Miss Freya, he wishes to speak to you.” I stood, and George went to follow but James stopped him. “Just Miss Freya, he won’t hurt her. You have my word.” George seemed dissatisfied but sat down.
“If he lifts a finger towards you Freya…”
I shook my head “He won’t hurt his mate.” His mate… the words felt foreign coming out of my mouth, but still I followed James back up to the office.
The walk felt like a mile, done in complete silence. He sent me in but stayed outside himself. I stared at my feet, standing once more in the middle of that room.
Andrew stood, I could hear him walking around the desk towards me. He came around and leant on the front of his desk, folding his arms.
“So, you are my mate,” I nodded, he hummed. “I had started to believe I would not have one. Yes… it appears I was wrong. Because here you are. A medical student, secretary to the Beta of the Crystal pack.”
I looked up to him, I wanted nothing more than to live here. To spend my life with him. I nod.
“I am in my third year of studies, at a university half way between here and my pack house.”
He nods, seemingly in approval. My emotions are like a hurricane inside of me. What was he going to say, what was he going to do?
“Good, then there is no issue with you coming to stay here. Assuming that is what you want?”
“Yes! I mean, yes. It is the proper thing to do.” I look up to him, finally. He is smiling, his glasses sitting a little crooked. He was so cute…
“Our pups will have his hair.” I shushed Isolde in my head. His smile faded again.
“I respect hard work, I hope you know that,” I nod, “Having a mate, a Luna, will help to strengthen this pack, but if you betray us I will kill you.” His voice at this point was ice cold. I shivered, forcing myself to swallow my fear.
“I understand.” Of course… All these meetings were about the rogue pack that was gaining strength, he had every right to be fearful for his pack's safety right now.
“Good, then go home and pack. Return tomorrow, I will see you then.”
He turned away and I took that as the cue to leave, there wasn’t even so much as a goodbye. James opened the door for me and took me back downstairs to George.
The journey home was full of questions about our talk, but all I told them was that I was to move there tomorrow. James agreed to pick me up in the afternoon again and take me to the pack, my pack. My new pack. What would father say? What would Alpha Alexander say?
I sighed, and waited for what would come.
