True to his word, James arrived the next day at 1pm sharp. He pulled up in a black Porsche, causing many of our pack members to come out and admire it.
I had spent many hours of the previous night with George filling in the notes into what would be a comprehensive manuscript of the meeting. We had added little explanatory notes where possible with information of our own that we felt comfortable sharing. Then, after classes that morning I had returned to the pack house to change. What does one wear when delivering notes? I opted for a blue and white polka dot dress and black flats, simple but smart if necessary.
George and I waited by the front door for James, and when he arrived he helped me into the back seat of the car, waited for George to seat himself and we headed off.
The Ice Moon Pack lived around an hour away from us, with the majority of the journey being coastal. The ocean seemed so calm, but it was dangerous if you swam too far out, everyone knew this.
When we arrived at the Pack house there were a few guards waiting for the car. They did a quick search of George and I to make sure we weren’t carrying anything dangerous and gave us the go ahead. James escorted us inside, giving us his own mini tour as we went. This house was at least double the size of ours, but it was that of the Ice Moon Pack.
The Ice Moon pack was famous for being relentless in its endeavours. They believed in hard work and reward and they owned a construction business and grocers shop in the city. They farmed everything for the grocers themselves, and the workers for the construction business were members of their large pack.
As we walked through the house we got several stares and whispers as to who we were.
James led us through various corridors to an elevator, which we took to the top floor.
Was I truly about to meet the infamous Alpha Andrew? The man who was famous for being cold and uncaring, taking solace only in his books or business. I had heard stories of this man, he wasn’t that much older than I am, at twenty-four.
James led us down a long corridor with double doors at the end. The walls had pictures of previous Alpha’s and Luna’s and their families as well as various landscape arts. When we reached the double doors at the end James knocked, and waited. The hairs on the back of my neck prickled and stood on end, Isolde, my wolf whimpered.
What is it Isolde? I asked her, frowning a little, but she didn’t answer.
“Enter.” A deep voice called. James pushed open the doors and I immediately dropped my gaze. I could tell that the room was full of people, pack members, the inner circle of guards perhaps. I gripped my notebook tighter as we were led inside the room.
“I present Beta George and his secretary Freya of the Crystal Pack. They have notes for you regarding yesterday's meeting.” The Alpha gave a hum of approval.
“Bring them here.” He commanded. James gave me a little nudge forwards, and I did my best not to stumble as I did.
Then it happened, I looked up.
I lost my breath as I took in the man before me. Tall, broad shoulders and a tanned complexion. His hair was almost black with a handful of individual greys scattered through it, giving it the appearance of a starry sky. When I met his eyes it was like my world was complete. They were blue, the most gorgeous shade of royal blue you could imagine.
“Mine.” Isolde whimpered. “Mate.” My extended hand with the notes shook a little, my mouth hanging open.
He stood from his table and rushed to me, knocking the wind from my lungs as he hugged me, growling “Mate!” out loud. His face sought mine, our lips crashing in a wave of passion and completeness.
The rest of the room cheered, high fiving and generally celebrating. Of course, he has waited seven years for this…
James and George pulled us apart, laughing and grinning with the rest and I blushed a dark shade of red, Andrew just grinned like a kid.
In amongst this joy, something within me fluttered, my mate was the silent and cold leader of the Ice Moon Pack? He was meant to be cold, uncaring.
Yet he seemed so… well, not that.
Someone cleared their throat and the room settled down. Andrew shook himself, running a hand roughly through his hair and the smile disappeared, “Yes, thank you for these notes Freya. Take a seat and let's get on with it.” He sat back in his chair and put his glasses on.
