David stood in the living room at Xavier’s house. His phone was in his hand. The message from Vargas was short and clear. It said he would come for Miranda and Sofia. It said he would make David watch. David read it three times. His face stayed calm but his eyes grew hard. He put the phone down and looked at the team.
“We have a problem,” he said. “Vargas just sent a threat. He knows about the girls. He says he will take them.”
Xavier stepped closer. “We need to move fast. We cannot wait.”
Sarah nodded. “I will set up extra cameras around the house. Riley, you check the fences. We make this place tighter tonight.”
David turned to the back door. Miranda and Sofia were playing outside with a ball. He watched them for a moment. Then he walked out and called them inside.
