David packed a small bag in the back room. He moved quickly but quietly. He had decided it was no longer safe to stay in one place. The planted evidence had made the FBI hunt him more seriously. He needed to go fully underground.
Xavier stood by the door. “You are really leaving tonight?”
David nodded. “Yes. I will change locations every few days. Only burner phones from now on. No one can know where I am except you and Sarah. If the agents come again, you tell them nothing.”
Xavier looked worried. “They are already pressing me hard. They called me in twice today. They want to know where you are. I told them you are on a special assignment, but they do not believe me anymore. I am risking my badge for you.”
David put a hand on Xavier’s shoulder. “I know what you are risking. Thank you.
