On most weekends, Liberty Street operated on a skeleton crew. The kitchen staff cooked the weekend"s meals on Friday and refrigerated them for reheating on Saturday and Sunday. Nurses filled hundreds of tiny paper cups with the necessary pills for two days and stacked them on cookie sheets at their stations. The handful of orderlies unlucky enough to draw the weekend shift struggled through a stressful weekend of cleaning up after the residents. But this Saturday was different.
