Chapter 5 Being Herself

1028 Words
Cassia had been holed up in the research institute for the past few days, completely oblivious to the outside world. Even less did she know how far Ivor and Willa's relationship had progressed. Finally having some free time, Cassia decided to go back to the villa. She hadn't even stepped inside when two bodyguards in black pulled her away for styling. Cassia had long been accustomed to this kind of sudden incident and naturally didn't scream like other women. After all, Ivor would always have someone dress her up before attending any event. He would say, for appearances, that she couldn't embarrass him. Since someone was taking care of her, Cassia didn't bother moving and simply closed her eyes to rest. Ivor sat on the sofa beside her, dealing with his official business. His aloofness and nobility were on full display. The sunlight fell on his handsome face, as if plating it with a layer of gold, making him appear unreadable in the hazy light. Just like the man himself, he seemed gentle and harmless on the surface, but his heart was dangerous and mysterious. Since Cassia had arrived, Ivor hadn't even looked up, as if sparing her a single glance was a waste of his time. There was even a hint of resentment emanating from him. "Where have you been these past few days?" Ivor suddenly asked, his voice breaking the silence as if he were making casual conversation. Cassia's heart trembled slightly, thinking he had discovered her secret. Just as she was about to make up an excuse, she suddenly realized that with Ivor's current resources, he shouldn't be able to find out about the research institute so easily. This was the confidence her parents had left her, and it was also her own self-assurance. Cassia played with her hair mockingly and replied, "I was bored and wandered around. After all, Ivor, you are deeply immersed in the company of beauties, so I can only take the initiative to stay out of the way." The makeup artist patted her face, and Cassia couldn't see Ivor's expression. Therefore, she missed the bewilderment on his face. However, Cassia couldn't understand why Ivor would bring her here when Willa had clearly already returned. As if seeing through her thoughts, Ivor sneered, "Don't be so full of yourself. Mr. Parker specifically called this morning and said he had to see you tonight. But, what kind of tricks did you use to make Mr. Parker like you so much?" Ivor narrowed his eyes. He suddenly felt that he couldn't see through this woman in front of him. Especially recently, she, who used to be obedient, seemed to be gradually distancing herself from him. This feeling of losing control made him extremely uncomfortable. "Maybe... because I'm pretty?" Cassia stood up and shrugged helplessly. Unlike her usual light makeup, this time she opted for a full face, showcasing her beauty to the fullest. The dress design was simple but not without detail. The waist was cinched in just the right place, outlining her graceful figure. The skirt swayed gently with her steps, as natural and flowing as waves, exuding an indescribable elegance and agility. Like a blooming rose, gorgeous and captivating. She was originally a seductive woman, but she had pretended to be pure for the sake of learning from Willa. Now that Willa was back, she had no intention of continuing the charade. She might as well make the most of the rest of her life and be her true self. Seeing her like this, Ivor was actually a little stunned. "What's wrong?" Seeing that Ivor didn't respond for a long time, Cassia asked curiously. "Nothing, let's go." Ivor coughed twice, concealing the strange feeling that flashed through his heart. Over the past two years, Cassia had learned how to read people. She had noticed Ivor's strangeness. She couldn't help but sneer in her heart. Men were all the same. They were always more interested in something new . She thought Ivor would be an exception, but in the end, he was just an ordinary man. The Parker family banquet was extremely luxurious, attended by all the prominent figures in Beotorn. When Ivor and Cassia got out of the car together, they attracted a lot of onlookers. "Oh my god, who is that woman next to Mr. Parker? Could she be the future young madam of the Parker family?" "Don't be ridiculous. She's Cassia, the murderer's daughter. How could the Parker family let her in?" "That's right. She's dressed so provocatively. Who knows how many men she's slept with. She's just a plaything at most." The whispers from the side continued to reach her ears. Cassia turned her head and glanced at the crowd. They paused for a moment as if sensing her gaze, but then, as if they had thought of something, they spoke even more recklessly. Cassia didn't stop walking and continued toward the inner hall, pushing Ivor along with her, her expression unchanged. She remembered those people. They were the same ones who had been the most enthusiastic about praising her behind her back when she had won awards. As the saying goes, when a wall was about to collapse, everyone pushed it. This was especially true in the wealthy circles. Cassia subconsciously looked at Ivor and saw that his brows were furrowed, as if he was suppressing his anger. Cassia didn't understand. Those people were scolding her, so why was he angry? Before they could step into the inner hall, Quentin's voice came from inside. "Oh my, really? Willa, that's amazing!" "You flatter me, Mr. Parker. I'm just showing off. I'm still far behind Ivor." "Don't mention that brat. Hmph, he never comes to see me. And Cassia, she promised to play chess with me, but half a year has passed, and I still haven't seen her." Hearing this, Cassia's heart was touched. In this world, there was at least one elder who truly cared about her. It wasn't about benefits or blood ties, but simply a kind of love for a junior. Cassia composed her expression and said in the most relaxed tone, "Well, here I am."
