The next morning, the air in the hotel corridor felt heavy, like the silence before a lightning strike. Arav stood at his door, his eyes narrowing as he looked at Aisha.
"How did you know I don't drink?" Arav's voice was like ice.
Aisha's heart hammered against her ribs. A cold sweat broke out under her silk blouse. "I... I just guessed! You do yoga every morning, right? I assumed you were a health freak."
Arav stepped closer, invading her personal space. The scent of his sandalwood cologne was overpowering. "And how do you know I do yoga inside my locked room? I've never done it in the hallway. I've never done it in the gym."
He leaned in, his mask inches from hers. "Did you put cameras in my room? Are you watching me twenty-four hours a day?"

User_X: OH MY GOD! HE KNOWS!
Detective_Fan: Look at his eyes... he's looking right at the hidden lens! Does he have X-ray vision?!
Empire_Queen: Aisha looks like she's about to faint. This isn't acting anymore!
Aisha forced a nervous laugh. "Don't be ridiculous! Why would I waste my time watching you? You aren't some movie star."
Arav pulled back, his expression unreadable behind the mask. "I hope not. Because I hate two things more than anything in this world: Betrayal and Deception. If someone betrays me, I don't just leave. I erase them from my existence."
Aisha shivered. Inside her mind, a war erupted.
White Soul: Stop this, Aisha! He's a good man. If he finds out about the stream, he will never forgive you. You're breaking a pure heart.
Red Soul: Heart? What heart? Hearts are for losers! Think of the TRP! Think of the Khurana name! Once he sees your billions, he'll fall in line like a dog. Test him. Use him. Burn him until only the truth remains!
Aisha suppressed her guilt and put on a "killer smile." She held up the beer bottles. "Well, I heard Japanese beer is the best in the world. Since you're a tourist, don't you want to try the 'real' culture?"
They sat down, the morning sun streaming through the windows as a movie played in the background. Aisha watched him over the rim of her bottle.
"No girlfriend?" she asked playfully.
"No," Arav replied. "I'm focused on my goals."
Perfect, Aisha thought. No baggage. He's the ultimate canvas for my masterpiece. "So, why the mask? Are you hiding a scar? Or are you secretly a prince?"
"I only show my face to those closest to me," Arav said. "In a strange country, it's better to remain a mystery. Why show your face to a world that only judges you by your skin?"
"But we're friends, aren't we?" Aisha pouted. "This is a private room, not a 'common place'."
"To me," Arav said, looking her dead in the eye, "you are still part of the 'common' world. Friends are people you can trust with your life. You? You're someone who tried to kill herself because of 'social pressure.' You're a coward who hides behind a smile because you're afraid the world won't like the real you."
Aisha bristled. "I'm not a coward! I'm powerful!"
"True power isn't showing how happy you are," Arav countered. "True power is being happy even when you have nothing to show. You say you were fired from your last job and you gave up? That's weak. In my country, we start from the dirt and build empires with our bare hands."
Aisha bit her tongue. Start from the dirt? You applied for an International Tech Giant and got hired on your first try, you liar! She thought. You're acting like a humble villager, but you're a genius level shark!
"Fine, Mr. Philosopher," Aisha said, standing up. "My buzz is gone. I'll go wash your shirt now."
"By hand," Arav reminded her. "No machines. I want to see the effort."
As he reached the door, he paused and looked back. "Tomorrow is Sunday. Are you free?"
Aisha's heart leapt. A date? Finally! "Are you taking me on a date? I should warn you, I have high standards."
Arav chuckled, a deep, melodic sound. "It's not a date. I'm taking you to see Reality. Wear something you don't mind getting dirty. 8:00 AM. Don't be late."
He closed the door, leaving Aisha standing in the hallway with a laundry basket and a confused heart.
