Chapter 12

The next morning everyone was busy on board except Aaron.

James: Good morning Jessica!

Jessica: Good morning.

James: Did you sleep well?

Jessica: Great. Didn't you see Aaron?

James: No, maybe he's in his room.

I went down and knocked on his door.

Aaron: Come in

I walked in and saw him sitting over a stack of books and maps.

Jessica: What are you doing?

Aaron: Oh, the captain told me about a treasure that piqued my interest. The greatest treasure ever hidden by pirates.

Jessica: I thought the captain was looking for the parrot's treasure.

Aaron: Yeah, but it's not that big of a deal. If we found Freddy Kidd's treasure, that would be something!

Jessica: You really like being a pirate.

I commented with a smile.

Aaron: Who wouldn't? Excitement, freedom and wonderful treasures.

Jessica: And what did you find out?

Aaron: Just that Freddy had a huge fortune that he cursed before hiding it.

Jessica: That's terrifying.

Aaron: He was also a terrifying person.

Jessica: Did he have any relatives?

Aaron: Yeah, he had a kid. I think he intended the treasure for his kid.

Jessica: And where is this kid now?

Aaron: No one knows that. But for sure, if we find the map then we have to find his kid too, if we don't want a curse on our heads.

Jessica: But the treasure belongs to his child. If we found it with this child, would you take it away from the kid?

Aaron: No, but we do most of the work, I thought we could cut it in half.

We both had a good laugh at that.

Jessica: Anyway, I'm glad you made friends with the boys. I see the captain trusts you too.

Aaron took both of my hands and looked into my eyes.

Aaron: The captain is a good guy. Too good.

Jessica: What do you mean too good?

Aaron: In a way that I can only hope you don't fall in love with him.

Since I couldn't think of a good answer, I just stared at the ground in silence.

Aaron: And anyway, if you're interested in piracy, I already have a ship, by the time we get home I'll learn the trade and I'll be a pirate captain too!

He straightened up proudly, laughing.

I took his face in my hands and answered him honestly.

Jessica: You would be a great captain Aaron.

Jessica: But I'm so glad you're not a pirate.

Jessica: I don't want you to be in danger day and night. And when you lay your head down to sleep, your conscience would torment you for the sins you committed.

Jessica: I love you the way you are.

I gave him a soft kiss on his lips.

Aaron was surprised and blushed.

Aaron: I... I didn't know.. that I am important to you.

Jessica: Well, now you know.

I answered and closed the door behind me.

That night I woke up to the sudden shaking of the ship.

Maybe we hit a cliff?

I ran on board in fright when I saw that this was not the case.

The boys were all there and a group of unknown pirates. My legs shook as their captain stepped onto our ship.

Shawn immediately stood in front of me to give me some cover from them.

Dwayn: Ravenheart! What the hell do you want from us?

He asked the big, scary man, who was already holding a pistol at him.

Dwayn: You followed me all the way. But I'm sorry, we don't have the parrot's treasure yet.

The pirate named Ravenheart let out a terrifying laugh that sent shivers through my entire body.

Ravenheart: I don't care about your crappy treasure.

Ravenheart: We came for something more important.

He slowly walked towards us, grabbed my wrist and pulled me from behind Shawn.

Ravenheart: I want her!

Dwayn: Her? Why? She's just a ticket-selling girl from the port.

Ravenheart laughed again, and before anyone could say anything, he swung his sword at me and cut the strap of my dress in one move, causing my top to fall to the ground.

Everyone was shocked and looked surprised, the air froze on board.

Ravenheart: What a fool you are Lockheart!

Ravenheart: You're not saying you're traveling with Fereddy Kidd's daughter and you had no idea?

Ravenheart: If you weren't such a gentleman, you would have realized a long time ago that the map is on her chest!

The captain's surprise was replaced by anger and concern on his face.

Shawn took off his shirt and spread it over me so that two groups of pirates wouldn't stare at me.

Dwayn: There's no way you're going to get her.

Aaron: I'm not a murderer, but I'll kill you if you dare to hurt her!

Aaron drew the captain's attention to himself, while James tried to grab the gun from the captain's hand, before it fired off and injured James in the shoulder.

But in the meantime, Dwayn threw himself at Ravenheart and took him to the ground, while the others drew their weapons and fought the men of the enemy pirate group.

Shawn: Jessica, hide quickly!

Shawn shouted to me as the three of them attacked him.

Jessica: No, I'll help you!

Shawn: Get out of here now!

He yelled at me so angrily while stabbing the pirates in the heart one after another that I got a little scared and ran down the stairs.

I ran into the captain's room because it was the farthest and hid under the bed.

(Where can you hide here, anyway?)

I covered my mouth with my hand so that my sobs could not be heard

The realization that I am Freddy Kidd's daughter, the knowledge that I had gotten everyone into trouble, and the fear that they would take me with them paralyzed me.

And James got hurt badly because of me!

And what about the others upstairs?

The noises suddenly stopped and I started to worry, who would I see if I came out?

I slowly ventured up the stairs when I heard loud shouting again.

I slowly stuck my head out and saw…

I saw Dwayn pointing a gun at the head of Shawn who was lying on the crates.

Dwayn let out a roar.

Dwayn: You didn't seem surprised Shawn! You knew about it all, but you put us all in danger!

Shawn: I was just trying to protect Jessica.

Shawn: I knew that if you found out who she was, you would drag her along after the treasure, which would have been the most dangerous mission because all the pirates are looking for it!

Dwayn: Arrr!

He continued to yell and grabbed Shawn!

Dwayn: How did you guard if they could surprise us?

Aaron: He wasn't on guard, I was!

Then he held his gun at Aaron for a moment, indicating that he should shut up.

Then he turned to Shawn again and pressed the gun to his temple.

Dwayn: How did you get a chance to see that tattoo on her chest, if I may ask?

He asked in a calmer, but all the more terrifying and decisive tone of voice.

Dwayn: What did you do to her, you f*****g assassin? You two… were together?

I could see that the captain was completely out of his mind and not even kidding.

Ravenheart was nowhere to be found, so I frantically ran over to Shawn, kneeling next to him and holding his hands.

The gun was already pointed at both of us.

Aaron: Jessica don't!

I looked up at the captain, I didn't see a bit of grace in his eyes. He was more like someone possessed.

Dwayn: So which one of you is going to tell?

Jessica: I'll tell you!

What to say?

A: I lie to the captain

B: I'm telling the truth

C: I yell at him that, he has nothing to do with my personal life.

A:

Jessica: When we got caught in a storm, I was helping Shawn and a gust of wind blew my clothes, that's all.

Jessica: He didn't even tell me what it meant, but immediately covered me up.

Dwayn looked at me suspiciously.

Dwayn: Ha! Am I supposed to believe this?

Jessica: This is the truth captain, please, I would never lie to you.

I stood up from Shawn's side and slowly reached for the captain's hand.

Dwayn: Was that really all?

Jessica: I'll give you my word, Captain.

Jessica: You know very well what you mean to me.

I continued while I slowly took hold of the pistol and slowly lowered it together with his hand, while I kept looking into his eyes.

I could see he didn't really believe me, but he wanted to.

I then took the pistol and hugged him.

Jessica: You don't blame Shawn just because he wanted to protect me, do you?

Jessica: You would have done the same.- I whispered in his ear.

Then he finally hugged me too.

Dwayn: I'm sorry Jessica. I think I've lost my mind.

Dwayn: I love you too much.

(What? Does he love me? Did he finally say it? )

I was shocked, and the heat went through me as his words echoed in my mind.

Then he held out his hand to Shawn and helped him to his feet.

Dwayn: We're in pretty big s**t, you know?

B:

Jessica: It was a long time ago and nothing really happened, we just had an innocent kiss.

Jessica: Shawn showed his tattoo and I showed him mine.

Jessica: He was the only one who cared a little about me.

Jessica: Understand, I was very alone and I felt lost on the pirate ship.

Jessica: And anyway, you don't love me, so why is all this important to you?

I said in a slightly raised voice, to which the captain responded by shouting.

Dwayn: Who the hell said I don't love you?

Dwayn: You mean the whole f*****g life to me!

Jessica: So then….you do?

I slowly lowered his arm along with the gun.

Dwayn: I can't believe you don't know.

Jessica: I don't know!

I was already shouting too. I was very angry with him.

Dwayn: I love you, damn it! Did everyone hear?

He looked around.

Dwayn: I hope it's clear to everyone now!

Then he calmed down and hugged me.

He whispered in my ear:

Dwayn: I love you

Jessica. And never doubt it again.

Then he helped Shawn up.

Dwayn: So a kiss! Oh, how much I wish to punch you.

Dwayn: All right, go, there's nothing to see here

C:

Jessica: You have nothing to do with my private life, captain!

Jessica: I'm with

whoever I want.

Dwayn lowered the gun.

Dwayn: It's okay. You are with whoever you want.

Dwayn: But I don't want to see you anymore.

Dwayn: We're taking you home now, I think Shawn will take care of you.

Dwayn: That's all from me.

He went down to his room.

My eyes filled with tears, then I turned to Shawn:

Jessica: Are you okay?

He nodded as he stood up.

And I ran to my room crying.

I couldn't imagine life in the city again without the captain.

Both he and the team mean too much to me.

I pulled myself together and went into his room.

Jessica: Dwayn.

I looked at him crying, while he looked at me angrily.

Jessica: I was so stupid. I don’t want to lose you!

Jessica: Nothing happened between us, please believe me.

Jessica: I was just ... too proud and big-mouthed.

No answer.

Jessica: Please don't push me away.

I begged him

I finally saw a small smile on his face.

Dwayn: I don't want to lose you either

Jessica.

Dwayn: I love you too much for that.

He took my hand and slightly raised my head to see my reaction.

I looked at him in shock.

Jessica: You..really love me?

Dwayn: I love you more than anyone in the world.
