Jada’s pov “Let’s go!” I shouted at Mykel. “It’s nearly eight, come on!” “Yeah, I am on my way.” I finally heard his footsteps as he walked down the hall. I was sitting on the couch, legs crossed, very much annoyed. “Let’s go.” “Are you sure you’re ready?” I asked him. He glared at me, “yeah, I am sure.” He held his hand out to me and I took it. “Which pack is it?” He asked. “Night shadows. Before you even ask, no he doesn’t know we are on the way.” I told him. He raised his eyebrows up at me, “You didn’t tell the alpha of the pack that we were on our way to get our niece?” I smiled at him, “nope, not at all.” I said snootily. “It’s your funeral.” He said and suddenly our living room disappeared and was replaced by forest and humidity. “Come on.” I said and walked towards the trees. “Hello, any border patrol out there?” I yelled into the forest, “I am looking for your alpha. I need to speak to him urgently.” I turned to my left when I heard a low growl. “Don’t growl at me pup.” I said. I snapped my fingers and the wolf transformed back into a human. He looked at me shocked and covered himself with his hands. “Now please mind link your alpha.” A minute later he said, “done.” He tried to shift back but couldn’t. “Oh, right.” She said, and snapped her fingers again. He was turned back into a wolf, but he sat there and waited. Not long after that I heard a few pairs of footsteps coming closer. Then the alpha appeared. “You’re lucky I was on my way back to the pack, or you would have been waiting here a lot longer than you were.” He growled. “Sorry to disturb you, but I was told I could find my niece here. Her name is Tahlia, Tahlia Starwaski.” His eyes flashed black, “sorry, can’t help you.” He said and turned around. “Her mother, Lois, told me I could find her here. Look, now that I am this close to her I can track her from here. But that is a very annoying and draining process I really would like to skip. Can you please just tell me where she is? I need to help her. Her powers will only grow, she is going to need help.” He glared at me and Mykel. “Why should I tell you if I know anything?” He growled. “Because, for whatever reason you feel inclined to protect her.” I said. He narrowed his eyes and sighed, “follow me to my office. We will talk there.” I sighed and we quickly followed behind him. We walked in silence until we reached the edge, the pack house wasn’t too far away. I never understood why some packs called them pack houses, they are more like mansions or castles. This one in particular was rather large. On the right of the building was a section that was two stories tall with glass windows all around. The words over the door read Hospital and Clinic. Attached to that was another building, but this one had windows and some of those windows had curtains that were closed. This part of the building was three stories high. This one didn’t have any words on it, but I knew that it was the main part of the pack house. The third part of the building I was surprised to see, said school. They taught their own children in this part of the pack. I followed him through a door into the main part of the pack house. We followed him to the right and down a hallway. He turned left and opened a door, “in here.” He said gruffly. I walked in and saw a very bright colored office. The walls were a light grey color, he had dark wood cabinets and a matching desk. His office also had a long off white couch and two matching arm chairs situated at an angle on either side of the couch. There was a coffee table as well as a medium sized fireplace. “Wow, this is so different from Raylan’s office.” I said. The alpha raised his eyebrow at me, “you know Raylan?” He asked. Mykel looked at me with worry. I held my hand up to keep him quiet. “I have worked with Raylan in the past. Mykel has never met him before.” I said, I wanted to make sure I was up front with him. “Hm, how do you know Tahlia?” He asked. “Well, actually, we don’t know Tahlia. Or well she doesn’t know us.” I said. “Yeah, that’s wonderful. How is he supposed to believe us if we tell him we don’t actually know her?” Mykel said. “I prefer being told the truth.” This alpha said as he narrowed his eyes at my brother. “Look, Tahlia doesn’t know us because her mother’s mate killed our brother, her biological father. I had begged and pleaded for years to be allowed to see her. Instead I ended up having my knife stolen and that i***t used it to kill her mate. I just want to help her through this. We need her. She is a princess and needs to be protected.” I could feel a slight panic rise in my chest as I finished my rant. It wasn’t smart to talk to an alpha like that. He glared at me, “well now I know where she gets the spit fire from.” “You do know where she is?” I asked. He nodded his head, “yeah, but I don’t feel comfortable telling you where she is right this second. So instead I will tell you to go talk to Doris. She is a witch who runs the hotel here in town for us.” I was confused, but I knew I needed to just take what I could get. “Thank you, we will chat again soon.” I told him. He nodded his head and we walked out of his office, before the door closed he said. “Oh, if you do anything to hurt her, I will make sure your death is so slow and thepainful you’ll beg for death.” I thought for a second, “fair enough.” I said with a shrug of my shoulders. He looked at me shocked as we walked out of the office. Once we were outside of the territory Mykel glared at me. “Really? Why would you let him talk to us like that?” “Right now we need his help. We need to find her fast.” I told him as I continued to walk back towards town. “Yes we need to find her, that means we should have tortured him to get the information.” I turned to him, I couldn’t believe what he just said. “Are you serious? We don’t t*****e people that don’t deserve it. What has gotten into you lately?” He huffed and stormed ahead of me. I knew there was something going on with him lately. We walked back to town in silence, once I saw the sign for the hotel I picked up my pace. It wasn’t long before we walked through the door. “One moment, I will be there shortly.” I heard a southern accented voice from the curtain that hung over a doorway. “No problem.” I yelled back. I started to walk around and saw that there were little hints that a witch lived here. Some black bags sat in the corner of the room. Based on the energy of the place it was a bag filled with herbs that are known for uplifting the energy of the room. I turned and looked at the pictures on the wall, it was all pretty common things, pictures of people with big fish that they had just caught. Some pictures of families having fun, a few decorative ones of bears, moose, deer and loons. One picture though caught my attention. I looked at it so intently, the picture was of a family, a mother, father, and two sisters. I whacked Mykel on the shoulder and he turned to face me. He glared at me as I motioned towards the picture. “Is that who I think it is?” I asked. He nodded his head, “yeah, we looked into their deaths. We never-“ he stopped when we heard footsteps coming closer. “Sorry about the wait, those biscuits were not being very cooperative today.” She said as she kept her head down while she wiped her hands on a white towel. She looked up and instantly could feel her energy change. “Do you two need a room?” She asked. I shook my head, “no we were told to come see you. We will get straight to the point. Where is Tahlia?” She held her head high and shook her head, “I am sorry, I don’t know who that is.” “I know you do, we were sent here by the alpha of night shadows. Alpha Cullen Jameson, you know who he is.” I told her. “I have nothing to say.” She said. Mykel huffed in annoyance, “we don’t have time for this.” He threw his arm out and the woman flew backwards over the counter. “Mykel, STOP!” I shouted at him. “No, she knows things and she is preventing us from finding her.” “This is not how we do things!” I yelled. This was enough of a distraction and the woman stood up and threw a spell at both of us. I felt my back hit the wall and I slid down to my feet. “You will pay for that, you bitch.” Mykel growled. I looked at him confused, he had never growled like that ever. “Mykel, enough!” I yelled at him. He stormed towards the woman but when he reached two feet away from her he couldn’t move any closer. “Why won’t you tell us where she is?” He growled at her. I ran over to him and stood between the two of them. “Mykel, stop. We can’t act like this. We need to do this the right way or Tahlia will never trust us.” I told him. He pushed me out of the way and said, “we are the royals and she is disobeying us. She will pay.” I watched as he threw fireball after fireball at her shield. With each one I watched her collapse onto the floor more. I made a fireball in my hand and threw it at him. “What are you doing?” I yelled. He turned to me and I gasped, his eyes were blood red. He stormed over to me and wrapped his hand around my throat. He lifted me up so my feet were off the ground. “How dare you do that to me? I knew mother and father should have left me in charge. You have no idea how to run this world. I and I alone should be the sole ruler.” His grip tightened around my throat, I could see dark spots as my vision blurred. I lifted my legs up and kicked him with all my strength. He dropped me and I fell to the ground with a thud. He stood up and started towards me when I heard a loud bang. He stopped and dropped to the floor unconscious. I looked up at the woman in front of me and nodded. “Thanks.” I gasped. “Yeah, no problem. I am assuming you did not intend for that to happen.” She said. I nodded and rubbed my throat with my hand. “What the hell has gotten into him? He has never said those kinds of things before.” She sighed, “why are you looking for Tahlia?” She asked. I stood up and leaned against the wall. “I am Jada, that was my brother Mykel. We are her aunt and uncle on her father’s side.” “You’re the royals. So she is a princess?” She asked. I nodded my head, my throat was throbbing. I grabbed my amethyst and held it up to my throat. I sighed in relief as the pain subsided. “I will not tell you where she is, but I will tell you that you’re welcome to wait here for her. I don’t know when she will come back though.” She looked around and sighed as she started to pick up the mess the room now was. “Allow me.” I said and waved my hand. Everything went back to it’s original place and what was broken fixed itself. She smiled, “I wish I would have managed to master that one. Would make this job go ten times faster.” I looked at her, “you should know, this is one of the mid to last spells you learn in training.” I said. “I didn’t get to finish my training.” She said with sadness. I turned and looked back at the picture on the wall. “This is you, isn’t it?” I asked. She walked over and nodded her head, “yeah, this was one of the last pictures we took as a family.” “We investigated all those deaths. We couldn’t figure out what happened.” I said. She sighed, “hunters, an entire family of hunters took out my entire family and the rest of our coven. I would be dead too but my friend and I had snuck out to practice. She was killed in front of me by a hunter that had fooled me.” I looked at her, it was obvious she had survivor's guilt about the whole thing. “It’s not your fault. You didn’t know that they were hunters?” She shook her head as a tear slid down her face. Mykel started to stir and she held up the cast iron frying pan. I looked at her and smiled, “you hit him with a frying pan? You’re a witch.” She looked down at the pan and then looked back up at me. “It worked, didn’t it?” I started to laugh as Mykel flipped onto his back holding his head. “What the hell happened?” He groaned as he touched his head. “What do you remember?” I asked. “Last thing I remember is walking into the territory after the alpha showed up.” He sat up with another groan, “I feel like I just got pummeled by a jackhammer.” “Close, you were hit over the head with a cast iron frying pan.” I told him. “Sorry, you attacked us both.” The woman said. He looked up at me confused, “I have no idea what the f**k you are talking about.” I looked at the woman and she looked at me. We both had an idea of what this could mean. I just hope that we were wrong. Ray’s pov “What’s wrong?” I asked, worry started to fill my chest. “My mother knows who Vincent Jameson is.” Apollo said as he slammed the laptop down onto the desk. “What?” My father’s voice filled the room. I looked at him to see that he looked surprised. “Yeah, that was similar to the reaction my mom gave me too.” Apollo said. “Okay, am I the only one who doesn’t know who he is?” I growled. My father turned to me and said, “he is the alpha of rogues. He is also the brother of the night shadow pack.” I looked around confused. “Okay, what does that mean?” I asked, feeling extremely dumb for not figuring it all out. “That is where Tahlia is hiding.” Apollo answered. My eyes grew wide, “oh, that can't be good. Why is he a rogue if his brother is alpha?” “His brother left because their father decided that Cullen was a better fit to be alpha than Vincent was. There was a pretty intense battle.” “So there is a good chance then that they will go after the Night Shadows Pack?” I asked. “Yes, more than likely they will.” He told me. “What do we do?” I asked. “We call him.” He sat down at his desk and picked up the phone. A minute later he said, “hello Alpha Jameson, can you hold on for one second. I am going to put you on speaker.” My dad put the phone on speaker then set it down, “okay, we have some news for you that will be critical.” “Alright, lay it out.” He said, sounding stressed. “We have very good reason to believe that Anthony is working with Vincent.” He said. There was a pause before Cullen responded. “Are you absolutely sure?” “Yes, we have an email exchange between the two of them. Luckily Anthony isn’t completely tech savvy. The email he received on his phone came through on his computer as well, and he left it completely unprotected.” “You’re saying I should prepare for war?” I looked at my father and I could see that he was quite worried. He let out a sigh, “yes, we think you should prepare for war. We will come and help, I can send warriors and myself as well.” “The added help would be nice, I will also talk to Alpha Heep. I am sure that he would stand with us as well. I appreciate the heads up, now I need to figure out this mess.” He hung up and my father sat back down in his chair. “Let me see the emails.” Apollo opened the laptop and pulled them up. My father read through them quickly and shook his head. “What dad?” I asked. “I am calling my allies as well.” He said and he picked up the phone. “You two, go to bed. It’s gonna be a busy day tomorrow.” We both nodded and walked from the room. I turned to Apollo, “do you think I should tell Andria that she is at the Night Shadows Pack?” I asked. He shook his head, “no, the fewer people that stay away from there the better. We don’t need to draw any unwanted attention to her. They may not know she is there yet. Otherwise there is just more reason for them to attack sooner.” I sighed, “it could be days, or years before they attack.” “I know, we just don’t know how much of a plan these guys have already.” He said. “I am going to bed, good night Apollo.” I walked into my room and closed the door. I turned to see Andria standing at the foot of the bed, she repeatedly tapped her foot on the floor. “Night Shadows Pack?” She growled. “No, you are not going. At least not right now. We can’t draw attention to her.” She sighed and crawled into bed. “Baby, come on. Don’t be mad.” “Why would I be mad?” She growled, “my best friend just lost her mate and mine is refusing to let me see her.” I took off all my clothes except my boxers. “Come on, you know it’s best this way. If you go you could be followed and lead them right to her.” She curled into a ball and started to shake. I crawled over to her and realized she was crying. “Oh, baby, come here.” “She is my best friend, how can I just sit here and do nothing?” She squeaked out, in between sobs. “I know it’s hard, she is my friend too. Let’s just snuggle for a bit and get some sleep. We can talk more about this when we are both rested.” She turned over and snuggled into me, I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her close to my chest. We stayed like that until I felt her breathing change, I looked down and she was asleep. I knew this was going to be difficult, but I never imagined she would take it this hard. “We need to watch this one.” My wolf said, “she will try and go anyways, I can feel it.” I sighed and agreed with him. We would need extra eyes on her. I laid my head down, closed my eyes, and soon sleep took me.
