Chapter 43
Margaret stands in front of her full-length mirror and stares blankly while she buttons the jacket of her new navy-blue suit. After taking a deep breath, she walks to the window next to the table that holds her now-cold breakfast. She doesn’t have her usual appetite. Margaret focuses on the cherry tree in full bloom and wonders what she will see from her White House bedroom.
This is a day Margaret never expected. Even when asked to become the vice-presidential running mate, she never envisioned herself in the President’s role. Margaret only agreed as a favor to Samuel Williams, a person she had admired throughout his political career. The noise of politics was abhorrent to her, and yet, today, she will get sworn in as President.
