CHAPTER 2 "Hey, are you mad at me?" Adel asked with concern. "Would you enjoy going shopping to have fun? So how about we watch a movie or go swimming later on? Margot, that's a blast!" I shook my head. "Adel..." "Hm?" "You know, I used to believe in the saying that money can't buy happiness, but now... well, it seems like it can." I said bitterly. She smiled and nodded. "Admit it or not... money can really buy happiness. I'm happy because I can buy everything I want, whatever makes me happy." I forced a smile. "Really? It does?" She sweetly smiled at me and nodded. I lowered my gaze to the ground. "If that's the case, how much do I need to pay... to bring back my mom and dad's life?" Her sweet smile turned sad. "Margot…" "A-Any amount, I'll pay for it. I-If it's not enough, I'll borrow, whatever it takes... I'll pay it." I placed both hands on my face as I sobbed softly. "It's your birthday, and you're crying..." Adel rubbed my back again. I heard her voice crack, and I think she's crying too now. "Don't be like this, Margot." "I am rich, but why am I so miserable?" I slammed my fists on the table and continued to cry. "I miss my mom and dad. I-I wish they were here. I hope they’re aware that my brother doesn't care about me anymore, that he just trades me for money. He saw my heart breaking into pieces because of his words, yet he doesn't even care because all he thinks about is money." "Your parents won’t be happy to see you like this.” Adel placed her hands on my back, offering comfort. "If they didn't want to hurt me... Why did they leave me?" I felt Adel sigh. "My brother... He not only embarrassed me, but he also hurt me!" "I'm really sorry, Margot." Adel wrapped her arms around me in a comforting embrace. I gently removed Adel's arms that were hugging me. I saw a flash of shock on her face, but I just gave her a restrained smile. "I want to go out for a bit." She nodded. "Sure, I'll go with you—" "I want to be alone for a moment. Just let me be, it'll be quick." There was still concern in her eyes as she held my arm. "Are you sure? Where are you going?" "Upstairs, to your balcony. It's breezy there." Adel smiled at me and slowly released my arm before taking my cellphone from the table and handing it to me. "If you need me, just chat me or call me. I'll be online, okay? Just let me know." I took the cellphone and nodded at her. Adel teary-eyed held my face and kissed my cheek. "I'm really sorry." "It's not your fault." She nodded and let go of me, escorting me to their balcony, just as I wanted, and I stayed there. It was already 5 pm, and the beautiful sunset looked breathtaking from here. I admired it. As I gazed into the distance, the cool air enveloped my body, offering some solace, but it didn't take away the pain. I noticed the patio chair and table set up there, the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset. But I felt like my feet were heavy, so I leaned against the wall and slowly sat on the floor. The cold sensation from the wall seeped into my core muscles. Suddenly... My body feels numb, remembering the hurtful words I received from the only person I trust: my brother. "Okay, it's your birthday! So, what do you want me to do, huh? Reschedule all of my appointments and meetings for your birthday? Take you out to a fancy restaurant and engage in pointless talk with you? Or perhaps take you to a theme park and get you some stupid cotton candy? Do you think that is way more important than the call I'm having earlier?!" "f**k this birthday!" I wrapped my arms around my knees, feeling the cold. "f**k it..." I repeated the curses. "Out of all the days I could feel sad, why on my birthday?" I cried again. I'm not a loud crier; my tears fall silently. But when the pain is too much, that's when I sob loudly. The last time I cried this hard was when our parents passed away, and now it's happening again. Because now, I've realized that I mean nothing to my brother anymore. "Margot..." My heart pounded with surprise as it seemed like I heard my brother’s voice in front of me. "B-Brother?" I asked in shock. And when I opened my eyes, I wasn't mistaken; he's here in front of me, looking so worried. He nodded. "W-What are you doing here?" I asked emotionlessly. "I want to check if you're okay." I bitterly laughed. "Hah! Okay? You're expecting me to be okay after what you said? Just go back! You should be spending your time on something more important." "Margot..." He brushed away some strands of hair that were scattered on my face due to my tears. "I want to clarify something with you." "You don't have to. It doesn't matter anymore." I didn't face him, but somehow, I wanted to hear his explanation. "Even though I wanted, I can't baby you anymore." I don't know why Kuya's words surprised me, but eventually, I spoke. "I know." I slowly turned to him because I could sense a deep sadness in his voice. "Everything is tight for me as well. I can't spend time with you as much as I could before, but it doesn't mean... my love for you has lessened." "What's your concern for saying this? You don't have to lie; you chose money!" "No, no please." He quickly approached me and held my cheeks. "I was just really upset earlier, but trust me, I love you so much. I can't bear to lose you if that's what you're thinking. I'm really sorry." I bit my lip. "B-But that's not how I felt earlier." "That's why I'm clarifying this to you. I won't do that again, I promise, okay? Baby?" He turned my face towards him, and as I looked into his eyes, a wave of nostalgia brought tears to my eyes. The way he looks at me now is the same as before, and in those moments, I realized that I didn't really lose my brother; he's still here. "You're my sister, you're my other half, there's nothing more important to me than you..." He continued. "I'm not a teen anymore; we grew up, and you have understood that your brother is not a typical brother as you think I am." There was a slight shock on my face. "What do you mean?" "I understand; you're still young, but a very smart young girl. But you have to understand..." He held my hands. My eyes remained fixed on his face as I waited for him to elaborate and say more. "I can't spend time with you; I can't baby you, accompany you to school from time to time, help you with your schoolwork. But let me promise you this..." I stayed silent. "I can help you... Achieve your dreams." "Adel, can you please hurry up?" I whispered here. I went from a close acquaintance here in a strange fast-food chain, and I requested Adel to fetch me here because she wants to accompany me on my first day of a golf lesson. "Hey, Jaymark!" "Shit..." My curse was sharp because there's a random girl who suddenly shouted here in the back. What the heck? "Love, why?" The guy replied, and I assumed they were a couple. Like a typical cringe couple. "What's this, huh?! Why did you add another beautiful girl again?! You really love doing this, huh?! You're so shameless!" The girl showed her cellphone, showing him a screenshot or something related to that, I don't know, I don't give a damn anyway. "What now?" "What now? Cheating again, huh? Block that girl on your i********: if you don't want me to pull her hair out!" My attention remained fixed on the couple's bickering, which irritated me. I swear I don't care, but they're so loud! As in... Hello, everyone. You're in a public place! Psh! "That doesn't mean anything, what's your problem?!" "Don't fool me! I know guys like you! I'm sure you're taking her to a motel, you cheater! Is she your mistress?" "What motel? Your thoughts are flying too far!" "But this girl is so sexy! Why is her soul exposed?! Are you looking at her?!" "Tsk, what's wrong with looking? It's just a glance. Even if I drool over them, my heart belongs to you!' "What?! So, you'll drool too? Are you a crazy dog?!" My face nearly bursts, so I remove my earphones and confront them. "Come on! Stop fighting here! Get a proper place, or just break up! Is that so hard? Today is my first day of training, and I should be happy, but your dumb poisonous relationship is giving me a headache!" They both stare at me, literally stopping. But in a second, the girl made an effort to talk. "Who are you? Mind your own business." She grabbed her boyfriend's arm. "Come on, let's ignore her." "Excuse me?!" I said in a furious tone. "Excuse you, because you don't care about you! Haha!" After saying that, they left me alone, almost hugging as if nothing happened. I scoffed angrily because I felt so disrespected! I've been through so much! Oh my goodness! That couple is insane; are they proud of their messed-up relationship? Does that girl really allow herself to be treated like that? I remember he said, 'Even if I drool over them, my heart belongs to you!' Does she really believe that? Why? And why be in a relationship at all? I find relationships to be such a waste of time and energy. I think there's no good reason to be in a relationship with someone. For what? To have someone to cuddle at night? Or more like to have someone to engage in intimate activities with? A relationship provides nothing but stress and adds no benefit. "Why do you look so stressed?" Adel asked as soon as I entered her car. My brow remained furrowed, and the annoyance on my face was visible. "Nevermind, I don't want to remember." "Okay then, so... where are we going?" I grabbed my phone and checked my messages on IG. "My instructor said we will hold the first lesson on the Casa de Amor golf course." "Oh… Casa de Amor? I know that place. The Ramirez mansion." "Yeah..." I said, looking at my phone. "I don't know if he's the owner, but I hope he's not like what happened to me in my last golf lesson group. Oh my god, remember them? Everyone was so nasty and narcissistic," I shook my head. "Terrible experience." "Haha, I know, girl. Why do you want to learn golf? There are plenty of other sports you can try." "Because it's my brother's favorite sport, and I find it interesting as well." "Well, since I have a crush on your brother, I find it interesting too." She laughed. I showed a quick disappointed smile. "My brother? Are you serious? I don't think you can handle his attitude; he's very bossy and grumpy most of the time." "Are you trying to discourage me? Come on, what do you think of me? I can handle that." "Really? How then?" "Well..." She smiled as if she thought of something funny. "I will make him fall in love every day with my cooking skills, serving him, and taking care of him. I don't think any man could resist that kind of treatment." I crossed my arms under my chest. "What if you both fight? Did you make him mad? How would you comfort him?" I asked hypothetically. "An argument? Psh! Easy! I'm sure a fake argument can be fixed by makeup sex." She laughed. My mouth formed a big 'O'. "Adel?!" "Just kidding!" She said. It was nasty but funny; I was laughing my butt off here. At that point, I barely remembered my previous bad experience. Adel really knows how to lighten up my mood, that's why I love her. "Is Edward Collins here? He's my golf instructor." I asked the guard. Even though we are wealthy as well, I was enchanted by Casa de Amor's stunning exterior. I enjoy the architectural style; it has a bit of a medieval feel to it while still being contemporary. Since I'm not an industry specialist, I wasn't sure. But in general, this is paradise! But to be honest, I'm early because Mr. Collins and I agreed on 2 pm, and it's only 1:35. Well, better early than late. I told Adel to leave me here because she wanted to accompany me inside, but I told her to leave because I knew she had things to do. I'm already wearing my golf outfit: a white collared sleeveless shirt, a miniskirt, sneakers, and, of course, my hat. This is my favorite outfit because in it, I feel sexy and cute. I arrived at the golf course right at 1:40. This place is enormous! Oh my god, I'm so tired! What's even more disappointing is that Mr. Collins isn't here yet, but he'll be arriving shortly. Well, that's okay! At least I have time to rest! This place is so relaxing; I wish we had a golf course at our house. I hope my brother is here to teach me. I sat on the side when I saw a tree. I saw a golf cart, but it's too far, and my feet are sore. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and once again, Kuya crossed my mind. Brother Marshall... When I become good, I'll challenge you. "Hola, Hermosa." I quickly opened my eyes when I suddenly heard a voice with a Spanish accent in front of me. "Mr. Collins, is that you—" My eyes were glued to the handsome man's face as he smiled at me. Despite the blazing sunlight, the cold air touched his skin, those penetrating eyes beneath his sunglasses, his hair flowing easily in the wind, and his body attractive because it is barely visible through his collared shirt. He's also wearing a golf outfit. He relaxed his jaw as he gently took off his sunglasses. "Don't tell me you are..." I paused for a moment when I stuttered. "Ahem! Don't tell me you are Mr. Collins?" "Take a guess," he playfully answered. "I hope you're not," I shook my head. "No way." "Maybe I am," he declared. My eyes widened. "You're kidding me, right? That's impossible!" "And why?" "Because you're too young to be a senior instructor," I rolled my eyes. "I have common sense if you don't realize," I said in a snappy tone, making him laugh. He shrugged. "I didn't say anything." My face formed a grimace when there was a sudden change in his accent. I'm not sure if he's flirtatious or if his tone of voice is naturally mild and gentle. I bet he's flirty, and a flirty guy is what I hate the most. I hate him already! "Margot, you didn't mention you'd be early?" I turned to a man in his 50s who had just arrived. "Nice to meet you. I'm your brother's former golf instructor, Edward Collins." He casually introduced himself. He approached me for a brief, formal handshake. "You're Mr. Collins?" "Yes, I am, why?" "So, you're the owner of this place?" I looked back at the guy I was talking to earlier. "So, who is this man? Pretending to be you, Mr. Collins. Who are you, Bastard?" I asked the guy rudely, but he just smiled at me. Mr. Collins quickly stepped in. "Oh, hija, this is Jeal. He's the youngest grandson of Neva and Santino Ramirez. I occasionally tutor him as well." I looked surprised at Jeal. "Hello," he mouthed in a very friendly way. I turned back to Mr. Collins. "And who are... Neva and Santino Ramirez?" "The owners of this mansion."
