Chapter 5 (My ultimate dream)

1894 Words
Picking up the markers and watercolors, I paused from illustrating some fashion sketches when I noticed that my hair had been falling onto my face. I took a momentary break from my table in the living room, where I set up my workstation, to retrieve my hair clip from my bag and secured it in my hair. "Perfect." In front of me, there were various markers, pencils, and watercolors, along with different books and magazines related to fashion design, the history of fashion design, and an overview of fashion in the US, Paris, Italy, and the UK. I enjoyed exploring these materials to gather ideas and expand my imagination when it came to design. Ever since I was a child, I had been fascinated by fabrics, styles, trends, and designing clothes. I loved watching videos about the process, from sketching dresses to the final construction of garments. Now I had discovered that this was my passion, what I wanted to pursue as a career – to become a designer. After completing a series of coat sketches, I yawned. I grabbed my cellphone and realized it was quite late. "Why are you still awake?" I turned to the deep voice of my older brother, Marshall. It seemed like he had just arrived home. His hair was slightly disheveled, and he was dressed in a magnificent suit. "Hey..." I approached him and welcomed him. "Why you’re late?" "I went to a party, business-related." He glanced at the table where I had my sketching tools. "I see... why are you working on this in the living room? What about the studio I had built for you?" "I can't wait for you there..." He furrowed his brow. "Why? Is Baby Margot expecting a souvenir, huh?" He said in a playful tone. I chuckled. "You know... I just wanted to see you because this is the only I could see you for the whole.” His smile faded. "Anyway!" I started energetically. "It's not a big deal; I'm just... tired from sketching all day. And you know what? The dress I was working on for days, I finished it already. It's in my room." I eagerly shared. He forced a smile and nodded. "Great, I want to see it." I also forced a smile. He looked at his watch and began to take it off. "Is this really what you want?" He asked while removing his watch. I was a bit surprised by his question. "What do you mean?" After taking off his watch, he looked at me. "To become a fashion designer? It seems like you're a hundred percent committed." I glanced at my table before nodding with a smile. "This is what I love to do, nothing else." "Really... Why are you still studying business?" I bit my lower lip. "Because somehow... I wanted to understand what you're dealing with," I paused, looking at a book on the table. "Besides, fashion designing is also a business, and it would be a great advantage for me before I start working on projects." I picked up a book from the table, a design overview book. "Right." He agreed. Then he approached me. "From now on, no matter what happens, that dream of yours will come true, understand?" "Huh?" "I promise you and our parents... I will not screw up and will take care of our wealth." I looked at him. "Why are you so serious—" "After you graduate, I'll send you to any top design school in the world. And I will look for a great mentor for you. We will do everything to make you successful." "But... You? Will we be separated?" I asked with some concern. He gave me a reassuring smile and nodded. "Don't worry; your dream is also my dream." He cupped my face. "What matters is that I'll do whatever is possible for my Margot." I bit my lip. I closed my eyes as he cupped my face with sincerity and brotherly love. Even as a child, he was the one who could calm me down, with the way he touched my face, caressed my hair, hugged me, comforted me. He made me feel at home, complete, even without our parents. So, every time he was busy with something else, I felt hurt. It seemed like I had no one, despite all the wealth. He was the most important person to me. "This isn't really what you want, is it? You want to be a pro golfer so bad, right?" He removed his hand from my face and turned to face in another direction. "To win in life, you have to do something that you don't like. It's not always about doing what you love, Margot; sometimes, life is about loving what you're doing." Despite my confusion about how profound that meaning is, I stayed quiet. He patted my head. "It's late. You should sleep. I'll take a shower upstairs. Goodnight, sweetheart." I nodded with a smile, watching him walk away until he entered his room. Just like before, he used to be so playful. He always had a bright smile on his face. But now… he's serious, perhaps due to the passing years and the changes that came with them. Despite the changes, one thing remained constant—his love for me. And that's what mattered the most. "Goodnight, Marshall." I yawned as I descended the stairs, still feeling sleepy but knowing I had to get ready for school. As I walked downstairs, I noticed Alicia in the kitchen, preparing breakfast. "Good morning, Alicia." "Good morning, ma'am. You arrived just in time. Sir Marshall is about to have breakfast." I stopped in my tracks. "Huh? Marshall—" "You look stupid, Margot. Comb your hair." Marshall's voice interrupted my thoughts, and I saw him folding his long sleeves at the elbow. "Oh my? Are you joining me for breakfast?" "Yep, from now on," he smiled at me before taking a seat at the table. Finally, after a long time, aside from attending parties, we were having breakfast together. He used to leave early most of the time, heading to the office for meals. I chuckled as I fixed my hair, embracing the moment. I noticed his eyes on me, and I smiled back. "This is the best morning I've had this year," I pouted. I began to chew my food after saying that, but I pretended to chew slower, savoring the moment. I didn't want it to end just yet, uncertain if Marshall's words would hold true. He looked up, surprising me. I quickly pretended to chew faster. "Food is good," I commented. "Oh my god! Are you serious?" I was shocked and thrilled, looking at a brand new car in front of me. "I'm getting my own car?!" "Yeah," he said while gazing at the car. "It's my gift for you. Belated happy birthday, Margot, and sorry again for making you upset that day." I nearly screamed with joy as I hugged him tightly. Our driver had taught me how to drive a car, so I wouldn't have any trouble with it. "So... Can I drive it on my own now?" "Whatever you want," he replied quickly. "Yay! Thank you!" I kissed Marshall's cheek before excitedly hopping into my car. I even saw his smiling face outside but shortly after, while preparing my car for departure, Marshall's Bentley started moving ahead. I hurriedly opened my car window, sticking my head out to wave at him. "Thank you! Take care! Kisses! Muah!" I shouted, smiling widely, then turned on my car's engine and drove to school. "Oh, no, there you go, making me a liar... Got me begging you for more!" I sang inside my car while enjoying the drive. My god! I'm so happy today that no one can ruin my day because it's my day! Haha! Everything seemed perfect until I arrived at the parking lot. I realized I didn't know how to park! I forgot to ask for a lesson; all I knew was how to drive! "Oh... Shit." I saw two available parking spaces and decided to choose the closer one. "Okay, girl, easy parking, how hard can it be, right?" I talked to myself while studying the parking space. I knew where to park, but the problem was entering that spot. "Damn it! I'm going to be late!" I said impatiently. After ten minutes, I still couldn't park. I kept going back and forth, feeling conscious that I might hit the adjacent car. I was getting frustrated! "Having trouble?" "Yes! Can you please help—" I stopped when I saw Jeal peeking through the window of my car, wearing a playful smile. My jaw tightened, and I shook my head at him. "I mean no! I can do this, leave me alone," I said while still studying the parking space. "You'll have a hard time; you're doing it wrong. Reverse—" I released my grip on the steering wheel, annoyed, and faced him. "No thanks, I have my strategy. So, stop disturbing me, and leave me alone, okay? Adios," I said sarcastically. "You're being stubborn even though you're doing it wrong." He avoided eye contact. "Imagine, turning with only about 1 ft of space next to the car, haha," he whispered, but I heard it. "I said I have my strategy, leave me alone!" I knew right then that I was the problem; this pride was my main issue. But I didn't want to look stupid in front of him because it felt like he was some kind of competitor. I don't know why! There's something wrong with him, I guess. He shrugged, and his soft smile remained on his face. "Alright, good luck with your strategy. If that's easier, teach me, haha." "Whatever," I replied, annoyed, without looking at him. I noticed that after that, he left. It was only then that I realized he had just arrived, and he was the one who parked in one of the spaces I was considering earlier. Damn it! I should have watched how he did it. "Hey Mr!" I stepped out of my car when the owner of the car next to me arrived, opening his car door as I called him. "What?" he asked. "Uh... I don't know if this is embarrassing, but can you... help me..." I hesitated, pointing to my car. "... park my car?" He nodded. "Oh... Sure! Gimme a sec." After saying that, he briefly opened his car to put some of his things inside. He calmly nodded at me after that, then got into my car, and he finally parked it. I watched carefully how he did it, so I was sure I knew what to do later. "Here you go," he said as he stepped out of my car, handing me the keys. "I'm so sorry to disturb you. But thank you, ha?" "My pleasure," he politely replied, then waved his hand to leave. "Thank goodness I don't have a problem here anymore." I giggled as I watched him walk away. I noticed that he's also a student, probably in the same year as me because I recognized his uniform. He had white skin like me, his hair was somewhat long and tied, but he didn't look like a bad boy. He looked so cool, to be honest.
