Chapter 14

"...There's a time to be born...and there's a time to die. We are all just visitors upon this earth and someday, somehow, we'll have to return home to our Saviour. As we say our final goodbyes and reflect on the life of Alvin Seth Henderson, let us remember that he may be gone physically, but his spirit will live on forever in our hearts." The preacher commenced with faith and passion. I rested my head on my shoulders in deep thought as I took one last glance at Al's lifeless face in the pale moonlight. He laid neatly in a black tuxedo with a red handkerchief in the tiny pocket. A muddy football was placed on his stomach and his hands rested lightly on it. A gold football trophy was tucked by his side along with four gold medals and a silver one around his neck. I later learned that he was the captain of the football team at his college and that although he was failing an unbelievable amount of classes in school, he still had a full-ride football scholarship and even entered the 2015-2016 daft pick. His bangs fell stiffly on his forehead and around his wrist was Demitri's favorite Rolex that he always wore to school. He never let anyone touch that watch. Demitri rolled his wheel chair up to his brother's casket placing a dark red rose on the corpse's chess. He sat hunched over looking defeated as a single tear escaped from his eyes. Then, he rested his head on his brother's folded hands and wept away. I have to admit, I was quite relieved when I learned Demitri wasn't amongst the four who'd passed away, but seeing him this hurt made me feel like I'd gotten a little happy for no reason. The funeral was mainly attended by Al's classmates, teammates, and close friends. It made me wonder...where were Demitri's parents? Demitri never talked about his parents or any other family member. Whenever I asked, he would quickly flipped the script and said he lived with his older brother and that was all I needed to know. A gush of heavy wind passed releasing little pink flower pedals from the tree Al laid under. I embraced my shoulders as my lips started to quiver involuntarily. Just then, a blanket was being wrapped around me. I looked up to see a familiar tall, muscular frame standing by my side. "Th-Th-Thank you, Randy." I stuttered, smiling gratefully. I hadn't seen this boy in a while... He didn't answer. Instead, he smiled softly and walked away. People took as many pictures as they could as the funeral directors started closing the casket. Flowers, teddy bears, and flooded letters were being placed on top of the wooden box as people said their final goodbyes in tears. My vision blurred when I saw the casket being descended into the ground. I couldn't help but blame myself for all of this. Al was dead and it's my fault, Demitri's hurt and it's my fault, people were in tears and it's my fault...Fuck my life. "Nah nah nah nah...nah nah nah nah...hey, hey, hey...good bye..." The masculine voices of Al's teammates started to fill the air. "Nah nah nah nah..." more people stated joining in "Nah nah nah nah..." "Hey, hey, hey...Good bye..." I sang softly to myself. A salty tear made it's way through my parted lips. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was the first time in the entire year I made it to school on time. Hell, I was a whole thirty minutes early! I used to want to stay home for as long as I could, but now...I wanted to run as fast as possible! Ever since the car accident, Mary had been making my life a living hell. She installed a surveillance camera in my room claiming that she wanted to keep an eye on me so I wouldn't sneak out again. In reality, me and her both knew she was just worried about Richard cheating on her. I walked around the school with no specific destination. The walls felt so foreign to me. I stopped at a staircase and plopped down as I let the memories float around in my head. I sighed deeply running my fingers through my hair nervously. I wasn't sure what was bothering me. I was so busy thinking about Demitri the entire time that I'd almost forgot...THE PICTURES! The pictures that the paparazzi took of me giving it to Demitri on the night of the accident...now, what the hell was I going to do about that? I started telling myself that I was getting worked up over nothing. Not a lot of people knew that I was Chico Rich's daughter because Richard always kept me away from the spolight until now since my face was all over the news. So, if anyone did see the picture they would be more surprised that a celebrity's kid went to their school and forget all about me sucking d**k. See? There was nothing to worry about. "Ringinginginging!" The first bell rang bringing me back down to earth. I gathered my belongings and made my way up to the second floor. Children started filling the halls laughing and arguing like they had nowhere important to go. I hugged my text book up to my chest walking as fast as possible hopping no one would notice me. I even toned my looks down and wore nothing but a white cardigan and blue skinny jeans. When I was standing in front of Mrs.Flare's classroom I wasted no time and swang the door open. I stopped in my tracks after looking up and scoffing at what I saw; My classmates -everyone- was wearing a shirt with a very disturbing picture of me on it. The one that caught my attention the most was the one of me on my hands and knees with my mouth wide open as Demitri aimed right in my mouth, and guess who was wearing it? Just guess who was wearing it... "d**k sucker!" Gloria said sending the crowd into an outburst of laughter.
