Chapter 12

"Please pick up...Please pick up...", I prayed as I heard Richard's phone started to ring on the other line. "Hello?" Richard finally said. "Daddy!" I exclaimed. "Oh my goodness, Lyrika, where the f**k are you? Mary came back from England five hours ago and you are no where to be found. I tried making excuses to make it look like I knew where you were when really I didn't, and she figured that out. We've tried calling you but you never answered. She's freaking out...I'm freaking out...we're freaking out! She's got a whole search party going on!" Richard explained. "I'm in the hospital." I said. "Oh my God! What the hell are you doing in the hospital?" Richard asked. I took a deep breath ready to make up a story. Then, I realized that I had to tell the truth. What lie could I have possibly told that would made me look innocent after half of this was basically my fault? If I hadn't agreed to go to the party, then I wouldn't have gotten drunk and high. If I hadn't gotten drunk and high, then I wouldn't have had s*x with Demitri and lost track of time. If I hadn't lost track of time, then Al wouldn't have had to speed to try to get me back home (although speeding was already a bad habit). If Al hadn't had to speed to try to get me back home, then he wouldn't have been chased down by the police and a group of paparazzi. If that didn't happen, then he wouldn't have hit another car and wouldn't have lost so much blood and slippdd into a dangerous coma. So I swallowed my pride and started explaining... "Al, drive faster! Hurry the hell up!" I said looking back at the paparazzi. "Hide this in your bra for me...I'll get it back later." He said in a shaky voice pulling out a bag of weed from underneath his seat. "Just incase they track me down." Seeing Al frightened made me insecure. He was a thug, "ridah", and a "Go-getah" and he made sure I understood that in just one night. He wasn't the type of guy to get scared easily even if things got serious. Al was scared...this was something that I couldn't quite understand. The zip lock bag slipped from his trembling and sweaty fingers and fell down by the gas pedal. "Shit..." Al mumbled under his breath, "s**t, s**t, shit." I turned around to take a glance at Demitri seating in the back seat. He had his face buried in his palms and sighed deeply forcing his eyes shut. I looked back at Al impatiently rummaging the area where the m*******a fell while trying to keep his eyes on the road. "Al! Look out!" I warned noticing the woman on the cross road. Al yanked the wheel to the left messing the woman by a few feet and right into a black van that was turning right at a stop sign. Unable to hold my balance my head aimed for the windshield. Before I knew it, I was feeling warm liquid running through my scalp. I managed to turn my eyes slightly to look at Al's neck where a spear shaped glass had made it's way through. He looked back at me. His big brown eyes were full of sorrow and regret as a drop of tear escaped from them. I blinked back my tears and looked at the back seat only to find it empty. "Demi?..." I choked, "Demi...", was what I said before everything went black. "It's my fault! It's all my fault!" I said choking on every word. "It's okay baby girl. I'm coming." Richard cooed. Hanging up the phone, I handed it back to Dr. Kosher who had been waiting patiently rocking back and forth on his heel. "How are you feeling as if right now, Lyrika?" Dr.Kosher asked softly. "I'm fine, I just can't fully open my eyes and my vision is blurry." I said squinting at the tall figure standing by my bed. "Ah!" Dr.Kosher exclaimed throwing a finger up in the air, "I almost forgot." The doctor walked out for a moment sliding the curtains behind him and came back with a small cup and a glass of water. "Say 'ah...'" He said sticking the big blue pill towards my lips. I opened my mouth not knowing in which direction the pill is coming from. "Right here..." Dr.Kosher said laying the pill on my tongue. "There you go..." He said handing me a cup of water. For the first few attempts, I grabbed nothing but air. Dr.Kosher gently touch the cup to my lips and I took a big gulp and swallowed down the oversized pill. "Thank you." I cleared my throat. "You're welcome." The doctor answered and started walking out of the room. "Doctor..." I called after him. He stopped with his back still facing me. "Are the guys that were in the car with me alright?" I asked. He turned around and flashed me a concerned look. "We only give that type of information to family members." Dr.Kosher explained. "Please, I'm worried. Tell me something." I begged. "No can do." He said shrugging. "How about the people that were in the other car? Are they okay?" I asked. "Well, I've been told that there were five people in that car coming from work. The lady who was driving the car was about six months pregnant and she died on impact. Two did not make it to the hospital. One died about ten minutes ago and one is in critical condition." Dr.Kosher said sighing deeply. "How can you tell me about the other people but can't tell me about Al and Demitri?" I sassed. "Thing is Lyrika...Alvin just might not make it. He's lost alot of blood when that glass cut through his throat. We are all trying are best, but his body is just not responding." Dr.Kosher said his voice soft as silk. "How about Demitri?" I asked, "Please tell me that Demitri's alright..." Dr. Kosher just sighed and left the room. "Come back here!" I yelled after him, "Don't you dare walk out!" I buried my face in my palm as I heard Dr. Kosher shut the curtain. Demitri's dead. I thought. Demitri's dead and it's all my fault . Everyone's going to hate me when I go back to school. I don't want to go back to school if Demitri's dead. Every little thing I see is going to remind me of him! I loved that boy! He can't be dead!...No...No...No...he just can't be dead. It's all a lie...Dr.Kosher is lying to me!..." "Lyrika?..." A familiar voice whispered from behind the curtains. I opened my eyes to find Richard standing before me. Although I couldn't quite see, I still knew my Richard by his clam and raspy voice, and the sweet smell of his leafy cologne. "Daddy!" I shrieked. "Baby!" He answered walking up to the bed and planting a light kiss on my forehead. "You got me so scared!" "I really missed you baby." I said reaching to his side and grabbing his hands. "I missed you more! This s**t is all over the news." He said sitting on the bed. "It's my fault." I said feeling guilty again. "Lyrika, stop saying that!" Richard said half annoyed. "But it is!" I exclaimed. "No, it's not!" He Argued, "You weren't the one driving the car. So stop saying that it's your fault." "Where is Mary?" I asked. "She's here but they wouldn't let her come in at the same time. I don't know why." Richard said, "That b***h was going crazy on me." The thought of that made me giggle a little. "But can I ask you a question?" Richard asked. "Sure baby." I said. "Which one of them did you cheat on me with?" He asked. I searched his granite face for a sign of a smile. "What?" I said chuckling in disbelief and embarrassment. "I know you cheated on me. There's pictures of you sucking his d**k with the windows open." Richard said. "What!?" I said in shock. "So you cheated on me. Why?" Richard asked. "I'm sorry." I said. He stood up pulling my hands out of his. I held him tighter for if I let him go, I was letting my last breath go.
